Chapter 3 I Don't Know You

Xiao Aiguo led the two to the regimental headquarters reception room.

He told them to sit wherever they liked and poured them each a cup of hot water.

Lu Fangfang didn't stand on ceremony. She picked up the cup and took small sips. She had been in the cold wind in the military vehicle for half an hour and still hadn't recovered.

"Let me introduce myself. My name is Xiao Aiguo, and I am the political commissar of the regiment. I am in charge of all the daily affairs of the regiment."

Xiao Aiguo sat down, habitually took out a notebook and pen from his pocket, and then looked at the two people on the bench. "Tell me, what exactly happened between you two and the battalion commander?"

"Comrade Lu?"

"Bang!"

Before Lu Fangfang could speak, Zhu Haiming hurriedly stood up, "Comrade Xiao, you have to stand up for me in this matter, I..."

"Just sit down and talk."

Xiao Aiguo waved his hand downwards.

Zhu Haiming held her breath and hurriedly pulled over her suitcase, taking out a large stack of letters. "Comrade Xiao, your battalion commander and I fell in love on our own. These are our correspondence."

"This is not the old society anymore. Feudal remnants like arranged marriages should not continue to exist!"

As she spoke, she turned her head and glared at Lu Fangfang.

"Oh……"

Lu Fangfang gave a cold laugh.

This scene is like I'm fighting her for a man; it's outrageous.

Besides, Lu Fangfang wouldn't want a man like that.

She shook her head, put down her water glass, and said, "My family has been poor peasants for three generations. Our family background is clean, and there is no feudal remnant in our family history."

Beside her, Zhu Haiming's face paled, and she subconsciously lowered her head.

“Political Commissar Xiao, I’m not here to force him to marry me. This arranged marriage was a decision made by the previous generation and shouldn’t bind us. As long as things are made clear, that’s fine.”

After saying that, Lu Fangfang felt a sense of relief.

Relying on men is unreliable.

Forget it, let's just treat this as a hiking trip. We'll figure out a solution when we get back to the commune.

"I see."

Upon hearing this, Xiao Aiguo breathed a sigh of relief; as long as things didn't escalate, the matter would be easy to resolve.

"Comrades Lu Fangfang and Zhu Haiming, please let me see your letters of introduction."

Lu Fangfang untied the bundle and handed over the crumpled letter of introduction.

Luckily, she didn't lose this thing, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to prove herself.

Beside her, Zhu Haiming looked somewhat nervous. She rummaged through her suitcase for a while until Xiao Aiguo finished reading Lu Fangfang's letter of introduction, and then reluctantly handed over his own.

"Um?"

"Your family background is capitalist?"

Xiao Aiguo looked up at Zhu Haiming, his expression full of surprise.

This is not good news. If the battalion commander really gets together with her, it could affect his future prospects.

"He is...a national capitalist, no...not a comprador capitalist."

Zhu Haiming was very nervous, and her speech was somewhat stammering.

If it weren't for this reason, she wouldn't have left the bustling city of Shanghai for the Northwest.

"Comrade Xiao, I despise my family, but I can't choose my birth. However, I have the right to choose my own path in life, so I came to our Production and Construction Corps, I..."

Xiao Aiguo frowned, waved his hand, and continued reading the letter of introduction in his hand.

Zhu Haiming stood there with her mouth agape, feeling very uneasy. When she saw Lu Fangfang looking at her, she turned her head and glared at her again.

Bah! Don't even think about stealing your man because of your background!

She didn't want to go back and suffer again!

"..."

Lu Fangfang's lips twitched. She had made herself so clear, yet this capitalist's daughter still acted as if she had a grudge against her for stealing her husband.

"National capitalists..."

Shaking her head, Lu Fangfang picked up her water glass and continued to sip her water.

She knew what a national capitalist meant; it meant someone whose family owned factories or businesses. This capitalist's daughter was born in the wrong era.

As she was lost in thought, she heard the door open, and then a man and a woman walked in.

The man was dressed in military uniform, about 1.8 meters tall, with a slender and upright figure, a straight nose, and a serious and resolute expression on his face.

The bandage hanging from his left arm was rather unsightly.

'You can't judge a book by its cover.'

Lu Fangfang muttered something to herself and then looked at the woman next to her.

The woman was wearing a white coat and looked like a military doctor; she actually matched the man quite well.

"Political Commissar, the First Battalion Commander's arm is still not healed and he needs to rest. What do you need him for? We can't assign him any more tasks."

Xiao Aiguo looked at Xiao Ting with a headache and said helplessly, "Dr. Xiao, I have important business to discuss with Battalion Commander Zhuang. Why don't you go back and get back to work?"

After saying that, he pointed at Zhu Haiming and Lu Fangfang on the bench, and said to the tall man next to Xiao Ting, "Look what you've done!"

"Huh?"

Xiao Ting then realized that there were two strange women in the room.

She glanced at the two of them carefully, then turned to look at Zhuang Mingcheng. But before she could ask a question, a scream came from behind her, "Ah!"

Zhu Haiming rushed to Zhuang Mingcheng's side.

She lowered her head and examined the man's arm closely. "What happened to your arm? When did you get injured? Why didn't you tell me in your letter? Will it ever heal?"

She had finally made it to the army; it would be a huge loss if her fiancé were to be discharged due to injury or illness.

"No, comrade, who are you?"

Xiao Ting's face turned somewhat unpleasant. She took a step forward, shielding Zhuang Mingcheng behind her. "Do you know this woman?"

"I don't know him."

Zhuang Mingcheng shook his head and subconsciously looked at Lu Fangfang on the bench.

"Um?"

After carefully examining the woman's face, Zhuang Mingcheng froze on the spot.
