Chapter 349 Drunkenness

"Sister-in-law, you can feed them in two hours. Don't put too much in the first time; feed them small amounts frequently."

Lu Fangfang observed the baby quails in the brooder box and gave Lan Ying some instructions.

The hatched quail chicks look quite lively, and so far there have been no problems.

These baby quails can be fed in the incubation room for a week before being moved to the breeding shed.

By the end of October, these quails will start laying eggs, and the egg production in the farm will increase.

"Fangfang? Fangfang?"

Beside her, Zhao Lanying paused for a moment, then smiled and said, "Xiao Lu, Commander Zhuang is calling you. Go quickly, I'll keep an eye on things here."

Lu Fangfang, still a little embarrassed, turned around and quickly walked out of the incubation room.

My husband never shouts like this normally; I don't know what's wrong with him this afternoon.

In the courtyard, Zhuang Mingcheng's face was flushed. He was carrying a lunchbox and leaning against a birch tree.

Seeing his wife come out, he quickly waved the lunchbox in his hand, "Fangfang, here, I brought this for you."

"Mingcheng, what's wrong with you?"

Lu Fangfang was taken aback, then quickly walked over.

When she got to Zhuang Mingcheng, a strong smell of alcohol hit her, almost making her vomit.

"Why are you drinking in the middle of the day? How much did you drink?"

"Xu Jinbu is treating us to lunch. I don't want to drink, but everyone is toasting me. Xu Jinbu is the most attentive. I can't refuse. Here you go."

After handing the lunchbox to his wife, Zhuang Mingcheng wiped his face and then took out a newspaper from his pocket.

Upon seeing this, Lu Fangfang instantly understood.

My husband was forced to drink by others because of this newspaper.

These scoundrels are utterly shameless and heartless; they're pouring his drink down in the middle of the day.

"Here's the newspaper...it's the PLA Daily. There are quail eggs in the lunchbox for both of us, don't forget to eat them."

Zhuang Mingcheng spoke haltingly, then couldn't help but laugh.

When we had lunch at the group's lunchbox today, it felt just like Chinese New Year.

Just one quail egg, a tiny quail egg, barely enough to fill a tooth gap, yet it made the people in the group happy all morning.

He felt a pang of sadness, but also a sense of pride, because all those quail eggs were raised by his wife.

"Fangfang, you...you open it and take a look."

Across from her, Lu Fangfang opened the lunchbox with a puzzled look. On top of the sorghum rice, there were two soy sauce-colored quail eggs.

These must be the quail eggs she delivered to the group this morning. It seems the canteen did a good job; they look very appetizing.

"Mingcheng, how do the people in the cafeteria feel about eating quail eggs?"

"Good, good, it's like celebrating the New Year. It's just a small quail egg, but the soldiers cherish it so much."

Zhuang Mingcheng gave a thumbs up.

Upon seeing this, Lu Fangfang smiled.

That's good; their hard work at the farm wasn't in vain.

"Fangfang, I..."

"Ugh~"

Lu Fangfang felt somewhat helpless. She closed the lunchbox and quickly helped her husband up.

"Sister-in-law Lanying, I'm going home for a bit, I'll be back in a little while."

She pulled her husband's arm, placed it around his neck, and helped Zhuang Mingcheng walk outside.

Once outside, she saw that Zhuang Mingcheng's face was covered in sweat and he looked like he was in great pain, and she felt extremely distressed.

She helped him to the edge of the meadow and said quickly, "Mingcheng, throw up. You'll feel better once you've thrown up."

Zhuang Mingcheng supported his wife, bent down, and after a long pause, said, "I...I can't vomit."

"I'll lend you a hand."

Lu Fangfang supported Zhuang Mingcheng with one hand, and with the other hand she put into his mouth and directly pressed it against his throat.

Zhuang Mingcheng immediately vomited.

Lu Fangfang patted his back and turned her head away.

This smells even worse than Little Flower's claws.

She let her husband vomit first, then turned back to the farm, scooped up some water, and had him rinse his mouth.

After a while, seeing that Zhuang Mingcheng was feeling better, Lu Fangfang helped him home.

...

"Mingcheng, drink some warm water and take a good nap this afternoon."

Zhuang Mingcheng lay on the kang (a heated brick bed) and took the cup from his wife's hand.

He vomited everything out of his stomach and finally felt a little better.

"Fangfang, I've mailed your letter. It's express mail, and it should arrive in the provincial capital in three or four days."

"Okay, I got it. I'll wipe it for you. You should rest now."

Lu Fangfang took a warm, damp towel and vigorously wiped his face.

Hmm...

"Fangfang, don't forget to eat the lunchbox I brought."

"Okay, go to sleep now."

Lu Fangfang touched Zhuang Mingcheng's face, feeling that he was like a child when he was drunk.

Holding her husband's head, she pinched Zhuang Mingcheng's brow again.

"Let's not be foolish and let people force us to drink in the future."

"If we don't let them drink, they'll feel uncomfortable, and it will be difficult to carry out our work in the future."

"What kind of logic is this? Just because we're in the newspaper, does that mean we're in the wrong?"

As she spoke, Lu Fangfang sighed helplessly again.

She knew others would be envious, but she never expected them to start pouring alcohol for her own man.

"Never mind, it's not a big deal. Anyway, it was Xu Jinbu's money that was spent."

Zhuang Mingcheng patted his wife and fell asleep shortly afterward.

Lu Fangfang stayed with him for a while longer, and only went out to wash her hands after seeing that he had fallen asleep.

Back at the table in the room, she opened the lunchbox that Zhuang Mingcheng had brought; the sorghum rice inside was still warm.

Holding an enamel spoon, she scooped some chive blossom sauce, mixed it, and then started eating.

This high-yield sorghum has a bitter taste and not very good flavor, but when mixed with some scallion sauce, it's not so hard to swallow.
