Chapter 379 Eating melon seeds, rat infestation

In the afternoon, Zhuang Mingcheng and his soldiers continued their work.

The heated kang (a traditional heated brick bed) inside the house will be dry soon, and he plans to fix the shed outside as well.

Winter is just around the corner, and the shed needs to keep out the cold wind, otherwise the chickens and ducks inside won't be able to stand it.

Lu Fangfang wasn't idle either. She went to the breeding farm, greeted Sister Lan Ying, and then went home.

While the soldiers outside were busy, she carried the cutting board into the inner room and started making mooncakes.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for family reunions, and it feels like something is missing if you don't eat a mooncake.

There weren't any other fillings at home, so she fried some peanuts, crushed them with a rolling pin, and then mixed them with some sugar and melon seeds.

After finishing the curtain, she carried it to the courtyard and started branding it.

By the time she finished, Zhuang Mingcheng and the soldiers were almost done as well.

Holding the freshly baked mooncakes, she took a few sheets of oil paper and wrapped two mooncakes in one sheet.

Remembering what Hao Dazhuang had said at noon, Lu Fangfang found a clean lunchbox and filled it with pickled cucumbers.

When Hao Dazhuang and the others were about to leave, she quickly waved and called them over.

"Dazhuang, here's a box of pickled cucumbers. Take it back and share it with them."

"I've made some more mooncakes. You can each have two and try my cooking."

Lu Fangfang took the things and stuffed them into their hands.

"Sister-in-law, this..."

Zhuang Mingcheng waved his hand and said with a smile, "Alright, take them all, don't be shy, you've all been busy for most of the day."

"Thank you, sister-in-law. Thank you, commander."

The soldiers thanked them and accepted the gift.

The mooncakes in the oil paper were still warm. Some impatient people took a bite and exclaimed, "Delicious, so delicious! Sister-in-law, your mooncakes are so good!"

He chewed on his food, but then couldn't bear to eat any more. He quickly wrapped it in oil paper, intending to save it for later.

"As long as it suits your taste, that's fine. Thank you so much for your help today."

Lu Fangfang saw him off at the door.

After the soldiers left, Zhuang Mingcheng washed his hands, put on his uniform, and prepared to go to the regiment.

"Mingcheng, when are you coming back?"

"It's getting late, I need to spend the Mid-Autumn Festival with the soldiers."

Zhuang Mingcheng said, still a little embarrassed.

"Okay, go ahead, no need to rush. I'm going to the farm anyway."

Lu Fangfang buttoned up her husband's collar, understanding his feelings.

The soldiers can't go home or see their families during the Mid-Autumn Festival, so she's already very content with what she has.

After Zhuang Mingcheng left, she tidied up the house a bit more.

After finishing her work, she wrapped a few mooncakes in oil paper and went to Sister Shufen's house.

After putting down the mooncakes and telling Sister Shufen not to rush to the farm, she turned around, picked up her drawing board, called to the little ones, and left the yard.

It was only a little past three in the afternoon, and various delicious aromas wafted from every household in the residential compound.

Lu Fangfang sniffed, feeling a little hungry.

She took out a handful of sunflower seeds and started cracking them open as she walked out.

Behind them, the little wild donkey grinned, its mouth already drooling.

"Oh...ah..."

It slowly moved closer and nudged Lu Fangfang's arm.

"You greedy donkey, we'll talk about it later."

Lu Fangfang quickened her pace, not wanting to pay any attention to it. This guy was the type to take advantage of kindness; being too nice to it wouldn't work.

When she arrived at the entrance of the family compound, just as she was about to go out, she heard arguing outside.

After hesitating for a moment, she slowed down and listened intently.

"Xiao Ting, go back! Go back!"

"Ugh~"

“Xu Jinbu, if you don’t want to force me to my death, get out of my way. I really can’t stand the smell on you. Let me stay at the troupe for a few days, and I’ll stay for a few days.”

Xiao Ting was carrying a handbag, her face pale.

She had lost a lot of weight in just a few days, and her face looked much more haggard.

Xu Jinbu, his face dark, grabbed her and tried to pull her home.

"Ugh~"

Xiao Ting covered her mouth and vomited all over him.

“Xu Jinbu, if you don’t want this child, then pull me away. My child and I will die in your hands sooner or later.”

Xu Jinbu stiffened, took a deep breath, and slowly released his grip.

Xiao Ting quickly took a few steps back.

Once she was away from him, Xiao Ting's complexion immediately improved, and her gagging stopped.

Seeing this, Xu Jinbu's face darkened even more; he felt he had been greatly insulted.

Across from her, Xiao Ting didn't care; she picked up her bag, turned around, and strode away.

These days, she's been vomiting so badly that no medicine seems to work. Whenever Xu Jinbu gets close, she vomits uncontrollably.

This child is indeed Xu Jinbu's offspring; it's practically here to take her life.

...

"Comrade Xiao Lu, are you going out?"

"Yes, Sister Cuifen, I'm going to the farm."

Lu Fangfang didn't want to go out, but Ye Cuifen called out to her, so she could only walk out of the family compound with a blank expression.

She glanced over and saw Xu Jinbu looking at her.

The man was covered in vomit and looked quite disheveled.

Holding her drawing board, she called to the little ones to hurry up and leave.

Honestly, she doesn't want to be a gossipmonger, but these gossips keep coming her way, and she can't escape them. She's really helpless.

In the distance, Xiao Ting turned around and saw that it was Lu Fangfang who came out. She was completely distraught.

Seeing that she was still holding a drawing board, Xiao Ting couldn't help but scold, "Pretending to be something you're not."

She bent over and gagged for a while before quickly leaving. If Xu Jinbu hadn't been chasing after her so fast, she wouldn't have embarrassed herself like that.

...

Lu Fangfang muttered to herself as she arrived at the breeding farm.

She let the little ones play on the meadow, then went to the breeding farm and called out to Sister-in-law Lan Ying.
