Chapter 382 The Weasel and the Stone Marten

Lu Fangfang led the children home and found that Zhuang Mingcheng had not yet returned.

It was already past 7 p.m., so she cooked rice and peeled a few potatoes to make some stir-fried potato shreds.

She ate a lot of mutton at noon, so she's not hungry now and hasn't cooked much.

Around 8 o'clock, she had finished cooking and finally heard the sound of the gate opening.

Holding a flashlight, she hurried out to greet them.

"Fangfang, were you waiting long? I just got back from the outpost and was a little late."

Zhuang Mingcheng rubbed his hands together and strode into the courtyard.

Before going inside, he poured a basin of water and prepared to wash his face first.

This afternoon, he followed the regimental commander and visited all the outposts and camps in the regiment. He was quite tired and covered in dirt.

"Wait a moment, I'll get you some hot water."

Lu Fangfang turned around and went into the house, took out a thermos and poured some hot water into the basin.

She told her husband to wash first, then she filled a bowl with steaming hot rice and poured a glass of water into it.

After Zhuang Mingcheng entered the house, she beckoned him to sit down and eat with her.

The dinner was simple, but the two of them enjoyed it warmly. The only regret was that the weather wasn't great tonight; it was dark outside, so they couldn't admire the moon.

After the meal, Lu Fangfang told him about Xiao Huang, whom she had met that afternoon.

"It looks somewhat like a weasel?"

Zhuang Mingcheng, holding the enamel mug, realized what was going on after a moment's thought.

"It should be a weasel. They are quite common in Qilian. They are smaller than weasels. These things are very fierce and can catch animals two or three times their own weight."

He blew on the water, took a sip, and continued, "There's another animal here that looks somewhat like it, called the stone marten."

"Stone marten?"

Lu was somewhat surprised.

She had heard of ferrets and sables, but this was the first time she had ever heard of a stone sable.

The fur of the first two animals has always been expensive, and even now, the purchase price in state-run stores is still very high, as they are very rare animals.

"The stone marten is more than ten times larger than the weasel, weighing three or four pounds. This thing is more ferocious than the weasel. Even if it is not hungry, it will kill any pikas or rabbits it sees. If you see it near the farm, you must chase it away and not let it live."

Zhuang Mingcheng gave his wife another instruction.

This little thing likes to kill indiscriminately. Unlike other carnivorous animals, if it were to enter a farm, it could kill all the quails inside in just one hour.

Once, when he was leading a mission, he encountered a stone marten. It killed a large group of pikas and then ran away on its own.

That experience really shocked him; that little thing was the real culprit.

Lu Fangfang propped her head up, listening as if to a story.

A carnivore weighing over three pounds, especially a mink, is truly remarkable; they can hunt animals one to two times their own weight.

Looking down at the little Tibetan fox lying at her feet, Lu Fangfang suspected that it might not even be able to beat the stone marten.

She'll have to see it for herself when she gets the chance.

"Awoo~"

The little Tibetan fox stood up and nuzzled against her legs.

Lu Fangfang smiled, took two mooncakes, and handed one to Zhuang Mingcheng.

She broke off a few pieces of the rest and placed them in front of Xiaohua and the little Tibetan fox.

The two little guys sniffed it, and then started licking it.

They are carnivores, but they are quite interested in the sweetness in mooncakes.

Lu Fangfang glanced at the two of them and then stood up.

Holding two portions in her hand, she turned to leave when she saw a donkey's head peeking in through the doorway.

Well, when it comes to eating, the stubborn little donkey is the most enthusiastic.

"You stubborn little donkey, open your mouth."

"Oh...ah..."

Lu Fangfang was too lazy to move. She took a mooncake and threw it directly at the donkey's mouth.

She took the remaining piece and ate it herself.

At the courtyard gate, the little wild donkey chewed and chewed, but couldn't bear to swallow it.

Looking into the house, it saw that Xiao Hua and the little Tibetan fox licked a few bites of the mooncakes on the ground and then stopped eating, so it went in on its own.

Under the watchful eyes of Lu Fangfang and Zhuang Mingcheng, it lowered its head and quickly licked the food into its mouth, then wagged its little tail and ran away.

"Oh...ah..."

Once inside the yard, it let out an excited bark.

"That stupid donkey..."

Inside the room, the two looked at each other, both at a loss for words.

Lu Fangfang, in particular, was also quite helpless.

Both Xiaohua and the Tibetan fox are carnivores. She puts out a mooncake as a ritual, and in the end, she feeds it to them.

The little wild donkey, on the other hand, acted like he'd gotten a huge advantage after stealing the food.

She smiled and shook her head. She didn't draw any more comic books tonight. After washing up, she went to the inner room to rest.

...

The next day, the two got up very early.

After Lu Fangfang finished eating, she called the little ones to go to the farm.

She left Xiaohua and the little Tibetan fox to catch pikas in the yard, then turned and went into the breeding shed.

It just so happened that Sister Shufen and Sister-in-law Lanying were both there, so Lu Fangfang called the two of them over and picked out the quail eggs from the past two days.

Today, the weather is alright, and she plans to incubate the quail chicks one more time, which will be the last time this year.

After they finish hatching this batch of quails, they can focus on feeding them.

"Hey girl, I saw that little yellow dog you mentioned last night. Wow, it's amazing! It had a fat pika in its mouth and jumped right up the wall. It's incredibly strong."

Wang Shufen held a quail egg in her hand and recounted her experience from the previous night.

"Did it come to the farm to catch pikas? It didn't go into the shed, did it?"

"No, it just catches mice in the woodpile and doesn't go anywhere else. It even glanced at me."
