Lu Fangfang glanced at the cabbages at Sister Shufen's house, then went to the storage room.
At this moment, Zhao Lanying had already arrived, and she and Wang Shufen were busy in the storage room.
"Sister Shufen, Sister Lanying, what are you busy with?"
"Lanying and I will weave a straw curtain and hang it on the door and windows. At least it will keep out some of the cold in winter."
"Straw curtain?"
Lu Fangfang walked over and took a look, and found that the two of them had already made several.
She pulled over a stool, plopped down, and then reached out to touch the straw curtain the two of them had woven.
The straw mats woven by Sister Shufen and Sister-in-law Lanying are quite thick, about three or four centimeters thick, and the straw inside is sturdy. They really do seem to be able to block the wind.
"When I'm at home, I hang this by the door; it blocks some of the light. Actually, a cloth curtain would be better, but unfortunately..."
Shufen didn't say the rest, but Lu Fangfang understood.
In those days, people didn't even have enough clothes to wear, let alone spare cloth to make curtains.
"Sister Shufen, make one for me too, I'll hang it on my door when I get home."
"Okay, I'll watch over the quails tonight, since I have nothing else to do anyway."
Wang Shufen nodded and agreed.
I fed the quails in the shed and collected some quail eggs. Soon, the sun rose, and it wasn't so cold outside anymore.
Lu Fangfang called over the little wild donkey, hitched it to the donkey cart, and prepared to go to the fields.
It's been windy lately, and the weather isn't very good. She thinks it's going to get colder, so she needs to hurry up and harvest the cabbages and radishes in the field.
Wang Shufen didn't go back either, planning to go help her sister with some chores.
"Sister Shufen, please come up and sit down."
Lu Fangfang sat on the donkey cart and waved to Sister Shufen.
Now that she's heavily pregnant, she's not trying to be strong anymore. If it weren't for Sister Shufen's help, she would be quite worried.
Lan Ying's sister-in-law originally wanted to come and help, but she was persuaded to go back. The quails in the incubator were still small and couldn't be left alone.
"Girl, I think it looks like it's going to snow soon. You're heavily pregnant, so you have to be careful in the snow."
With that, Wang Shufen got on the donkey cart.
Lu Fangfang patted the donkey's rump and then nodded. "My Mingcheng said he's going to the city to buy some non-slip boots, so I can wear something thicker then."
She was also afraid of this, and if it snowed heavily, she planned to stay home as much as possible to avoid any danger.
The two sat in the donkey cart chatting until they reached the main road to the north.
"Beep beep~"
The little wild donkey saw the convoy approaching from the west and stopped on its own.
Five large military green trucks drove past the donkey cart and headed towards the county town.
Lu Fangfang looked around, still a little curious, "Sister Shufen, has something big happened in the troupe?"
"Oh, they're going to the county to pick up supplies. I heard from my husband that every year in early October, the regiment sends people to the county and city to pick up enough supplies for the whole winter. Otherwise, if the heavy snow closes the mountains, we'll be in trouble."
"I see."
Lu Fangfang looked at it again, still somewhat curious.
"Once the supplies are brought back, we'll have to send them to the companies below."
Wang Shufen had heard her husband say that the regiment's several companies were stationed in different places in Qilian, some even deep in the mountains.
In addition, there are dozens of small outposts, some organized by platoon and others by squad, all of which need to have their supplies delivered before the snowfall.
Therefore, October is the busiest time of the troupe every year.
Lu Fangfang glanced at it a few more times, then sent the little donkey to the field.
Wearing a pair of cotton gloves, she and Sister Shufen harvested cabbages in the field.
The temperature is low now, and the cabbages in her field are firm, but they are a bit small. They don't look like large cabbages; they should be called small cabbages.
She hauled a truckload of cabbages home, and put the rest in the shed at the breeding farm.
After finishing her work, she and Sister Shufen started digging for radishes.
The radish greens were still green, so she didn't waste them; she wrung them all out and put them in a sack.
She planned to go back, tie it with a rope, hang it on the wall to dry in the shade, and save it to eat in the winter.
By the time the two finished their work, it was already afternoon.
Lu Fangfang thanked Sister Shufen and then started tying radish greens in the yard.
It's getting late, and she's not planning to go to the farm anymore.
"Pfft~"
"Pfft~"
The little wild donkey wagged its tail and walked forward, nudging her arm.
Lu Fangfang picked up a radish green and stuffed it into its mouth, then pushed it away.
This gluttonous donkey ate a lot of radish greens and radishes this afternoon, and now it's practically a farting bug.
This was the first time she had ever heard that radishes could actually help donkeys pass gas.
She covered her nose and glared at the little wild donkey, then picked up a bunch of radish greens tied together and hung them under the shed.
"Oh...ah..."
"What's wrong? Didn't I give you some? If you eat any more, your farts will be even worse."
The little wild donkey wagged its tail and peered into the house.
Lu Fangfang immediately understood, and she said helplessly, "Wait a minute, I won't forget you."
After washing her hands, she went inside and put the casserole on the stove.
There was still a third of bear meat and chicken left in the pot. After the pot boiled, she specially scooped out three pieces of bear meat and took them to the yard.
"Oh...ah..."
The little wild donkey had been smelling the fragrance for quite some time. It wagged its little tail excitedly and snuggled up to Lu Fangfang.
"You big glutton."
Lu Fangfang smiled, picked up a piece, and threw it into the donkey's mouth.
"Little Flower, Little Yellow Dog, come here."
"Awoo~"
"Meow~"
Little Flower and Little Tibetan Fox tucked their heads under their bellies, hiding far away from the little wild donkey.
