Chapter 43 A Pot of Butter

"What kind of people are these? They must be out of their minds."

While cursing, Lu Fangfang picked up the pot lid from the ground.

Seeing that there was some dirt on it, she scooped up a ladle of water and rinsed it off.

She put the lid back on the large iron pot, plopped down, and sulked.

Yang Yufeng's attitude towards her daughter, and the little girl's own reaction, really frightened her.

Without a doubt, Yang Yufeng was definitely not good to her daughter.

If you have children and don't take good care of them, what's the point of having them?

The thought that Yang Yufeng's husband was also an instructor made Lu Fangfang even angrier. If he couldn't even manage his own family, what right did he have to teach?

"No, I have to talk to Mingcheng when he gets back."

Lu Fangfang muttered to herself, then felt somewhat helpless.

It's all someone else's business, what can Zhuang Mingcheng do about it?

"Sigh." Lu Fangfang just felt sorry for the child.

Seeing meat in the pot, you can imagine how greedy you must be to reach out and grab it.

No wonder Yang Yufeng even accepted blood and saliva; she probably even skimped on her child's food rations.

Lu Fangfang grew angrier the more she thought about it. If this were her child, she would be heartbroken and wouldn't be able to treat her like this.

Noticing that the fire at the bottom of the pot was dying down, she grabbed a handful of dry grass and stuffed it under the pot.

She was angry, so she started to stomp on the fire carelessly, and soon the pot was boiling again.

Lu Fangfang went inside and got an enamel basin, then scooped out all the bones from the pot, filling two large basins.

At this moment, the beef bones in the basin were steaming, and the aroma filled the entire yard.

"Fangfang? Fangfang?"

"Who? Who's speaking?" Lu Fangfang was startled.

"Me, Yang Yufeng, Fangfang, the bones are cooked now, right? Could you give me a couple? My child is begging for some."

Following the sound, Lu Fangfang turned her head to look at the west wall.

She could vaguely see half a head behind the wall, trying to look into her yard.

Lu Fangfang: "..."

"Fangfang, say something! It's not that I'm greedy, it's just that my child wants to eat it."

Yang Yufeng stood on the chair and used all her strength to cling to the wall.

Lu Fangfang: "..."

The walls of the residential compound weren't high, and she was thinking that she should put some broken glass on the top of the walls in the future to prevent people from climbing over them.

Pretending that Yang Yufeng didn't exist, she picked up a basin full of cow bones and strode into the house.

"Fangfang? Fangfang?"

Yang Yufeng panicked immediately, but no matter how she called out, there was no response from inside the house.

The rich aroma of meat made her lose all her strength, and she fell off the wall.

"Smack."

Yang Yufeng fell on her bottom.

Seeing her son and daughter gathered around her, she said irritably, "There's no meat. She's stingy and won't give us any. What are you looking at? Quickly pull me up."

The two children were very disappointed. Without saying anything, they turned around and went back into the house.

"Hey? You two heartless bastards! I wasted my life giving birth to you two, you two good-for-nothing brats."

Yang Yufeng cursed and rubbed her bottom as she got up.

She limped into the house, grabbed a cabbage, and prepared to cook dinner.

There's still some blood foam in the pot, so I'll stew cabbage for dinner tonight.

She had been hoping to get a good meal from Lu Fangfang, but the girl didn't give her any face at all. She should have cooked it earlier.

...

"They're shameless."

Lu Fangfang listened intently for a while until the room next door quieted down, then she pursed her lips.

Sitting upright under the lamp, she took a knife and began to shave the meat off the cow bone.

The butcher at the meat stall had already cleaned the beef bones quite thoroughly.

But after it boiled, Lu Fangfang still found some small pieces of meat in the nooks and crannies of the beef bones.

Holding the kitchen knife, she carefully shaved the bones from both bowls again.

The small pieces of meat that were shaved off filled an entire enamel basin.

Lu Fangfang estimated that it weighed at least a pound, and she immediately felt like she had made a profit.

She even used chopsticks to scoop out all the marrow from the bones so that the beef bone oil would come out faster when cooking it again.

Put the bones and marrow back into the large iron pot and continue to simmer.

After a while, she took a spoon, stirred it, and found that the soup was already very thick.

Lu Fangfang went back inside to get a bowl, ladled out a bowl of bone broth, and then went back to grab a handful of freshly shaved beef.

Looking at the cilantro in the cupboard, she resisted the urge and ultimately didn't touch it.

I only sprinkled a little salt on it, nothing else.

Looking at the beef bone soup in front of her, Lu Fangfang swallowed hard. Her body told her that she really needed this soup.

She lowered her head and took a small sip.

"Hmm."

The soup was a bit thick and greasy, but after Lu Fangfang swallowed it, she showed a happy expression.

Holding her chopsticks, she tasted the beef again.

After chewing a few bites, Lu Fangfang closed her eyes comfortably.

The beef was only seasoned with a little salt; it had no other flavor besides its own natural aroma.

Perhaps it was because she was too hungry, but Lu Fangfang felt that the beef from this era was more fragrant than that of later generations.

After finishing the beef bone soup in her bowl, she went out and ladled out another bowl.

After finishing two bowls of beef bone soup, Lu Fangfang felt refreshed and relaxed.

It was completely dark by then. She went out into the yard, stuffed a few sturdy pieces of firewood into the pot, and let it burn slowly. Then she turned around and went back to sleep.

In the middle of the night, Lu Fangfang got up once.

She took out her flashlight and shone it around, discovering that the firewood under the pot had burned out, leaving only a few embers.
