Back in the east room, Lu Fangfang helped her son and daughter to sleep, then whispered to her husband.
The Lunar New Year is just a few days away, and it's really not good for things to be so tense at home.
"Mingcheng, what should we do?"
Zhuang Mingcheng thought for a moment and said, "Tomorrow I'll take my parents to the county to buy some New Year's goods and persuade them. You should also comfort Xiuxiu at home."
"That works too."
Lu Fangfang thought about it and realized she had no other choice.
There was no fire in the room, and it was a bit cold, so the two of them got onto the kang (a heated brick bed) and went to rest early.
...
The next day, Zhuang Mingcheng took Lu's father, mother, and two children to the county to buy New Year's goods early in the morning.
Lu Fangfang pulled Xiuxiu into the yard, turning over dried sea cucumbers as she comforted her.
"Xiuer, your parents are just worried about you. The New Year is coming soon, so don't argue with your parents."
“Sister, our parents have never left the county town in their entire lives. Their minds are full of old ideas. They are willing to live like this for the rest of their lives, but I don’t want to.”
Xiuxiu pouted, still unconvinced.
After living away from home for several years, she found it increasingly difficult to reason with her parents.
She was not willing to live her whole life like this.
The two sisters were chatting when a heavily pregnant woman walked into the courtyard.
She was wearing a black suede coat and long boots.
Looking at Lu Fangfang in the courtyard, she sneered and then quickly walked forward.
"Oh dear, Fangfang, what's wrong with you?"
"It's been so many years, I almost don't recognize you."
Lu Fangfang glanced at him and recognized him, "Zhang...Zhang Honghua?"
"Zhang Honghua, what are you doing here again? Don't think that just because you're pregnant I won't dare to touch you!"
Xiuxiu clenched her fists and made a cracking sound.
She only figured out what happened last year when she returned to Qilian, and she's still angry about it.
“Xiuxiu, what are you saying? I’m only doing this for your own good. You have no idea how sought-after the sales clerks at the supply and marketing cooperative are. She got married this summer. It’s too late for you to regret it now.”
Zhang Honghua raised her hand to adjust the front of her coat, looking quite smug.
She took two steps forward and said mysteriously, "Xiuxiu, my family has a distant relative who is only twenty-seven years old this year. He is also a worker in the city, but he has a limp."
"How about we set a time for the two of you to meet up?"
"You...you..."
Xiuxiu pointed at her, she was really angry.
"Get out!"
Lu Fangfang felt disgusted when she saw Zhang Honghua's appearance and immediately told her to leave.
"Oh, Fangfang, we've known each other for a while now, how can you talk like that? Besides, this isn't Qilian."
Zhang Honghua, heavily pregnant, gave a cold laugh.
She still remembers the humiliation of being sent back home back then.
"rhubarb!"
"Woof~"
From the south side of the yard, Big Yellow immediately wagged its tail and ran over.
Bite her!
Lu Fangfang pointed at Zhang Honghua with disgust.
"You...you dare? You surnamed Lu, I'm pregnant, I...I..."
"Woof, woof~"
Big Yellow rushed forward and barked wildly at Zhang Honghua.
"Get out of here! Get out of here!"
Zhang Honghua was startled, and she turned and ran out while protecting her stomach.
At this moment, she didn't look pregnant at all; she ran faster than anyone else.
The big yellow dog chased the dog all the way to the gate of the yard.
Once the person had run far away, it wagged its tail and returned to Lu Fangfang's side.
"Good dog, don't let her in again."
Lu Fangfang picked up a few dried sea cucumbers and threw them into Dahuang's mouth.
After only a few days, she became familiar with Da Huang and got to know his personality.
The yellow dog looks scary, but it doesn't bite people easily.
"Xiuer, don't pay any attention to her from now on. If she dares to come, just let the big yellow dog bite her."
"Woof~"
Big Yellow wagged its tail and barked in agreement.
Lu Fangfang smiled and stroked the dog's head. "Dahuang, don't really bite her, just scare her a little."
...
At noon, Zhuang Mingcheng and his group had not yet returned from the county town.
After lunch, the two sisters took their big yellow dog for a stroll around the village.
The New Year is almost here, but there's no work to do in the team, so the villagers, young and old, are all basking in the sun at the village entrance.
When the Lu sisters came out, everyone greeted them.
"Fangfang, are you and your sister playing together?"
"Yes, Fourth Uncle."
Lu Fangfang nodded quickly with a smile on her face.
"Fangfang, did your parents go to the county this morning?"
"Yes, my parents went to the county to buy New Year's goods. Uncle, how are you feeling?"
"Yes, it's fine."
Everyone in the village was related or connected, and Lu Fangfang greeted them one by one.
Everyone stared at her, momentarily dazed.
Fangwazi has been away from the village for more than four years, and she is really different from before. She has changed a lot and I hardly recognize her.
Lu Fangfang smiled and led the big yellow dog south.
As she passed by her second brother's yard, she peeked inside and saw Zhang Honghua inside.
"Xiuer, has Zhang Honghua made up with Second Sister-in-law again?"
"Hmph, who is our second sister-in-law? She has a sister from the city, so she has to fawn over her."
Xiuxiu curled her lip, looking quite disdainful.
She glanced into the courtyard, then pulled her sister away.
The two walked south along the country path until they reached the small river south of the village.
This winter, it wasn't very cold in my hometown; the river only had a thin layer of floating ice on the top.
Looking down into the water, you can see the sand and aquatic plants at the bottom.
