"Comrade, where are you from?"
The people on the fishing boat were a little surprised to see Lu Fangfang.
"Comrades, military families from the Qilian Grassland, passing through this area, do you sell the fish you catch?"
“Selling them is not an option. We are educated youth who were sent to work on a nearby farm, but we can give you some.”
Upon hearing that she was from Qilian and a military dependent, the people on the boat were very welcoming.
They picked up a few sturgeon and threw them toward the shore.
"Thank you, comrade."
Lu Fangfang thanked them and then picked up a few sturgeon and walked over to Xiaohua and the little wild donkey.
She gave half of the sturgeon to Xiaohua, and washed the rest by the lake. At noon, she cooked a small pot of fish soup.
She gave half of the fish soup to the little wild donkey, and then drank the rest.
The fish soup didn't have many spices, but she found it very delicious.
After spending a few days by Qinghai Lake, they set off again, heading north.
Along the way, Lu Fangfang saw many landscapes she had never seen before, met many enthusiastic people, and also met many educated youth who had been sent to the countryside.
After traveling for five or six days, Lu Fangfang arrived in Sunan with Xiaohua and the little wild donkey.
After resting for a few days, they set off for Jiuquan.
Further northwest lies Yumen, but Lu Fangfang, fearing that the little wild donkey and Xiaohua wouldn't adapt to the environment, had to regretfully stop there.
On their return journey, they took the main road and headed straight for Zhangye.
Standing far away outside the military compound, Lu Fangfang pointed in that direction and told Xiaohua that she would be living there from now on.
It was already April when I returned to Qilian from the city.
On the wasteland along the riverbank, the women were tidying up the land, preparing to plant crops.
When Lu Fangfang returned, none of them recognized her.
After more than a month apart, Lu Fangfang looked like a wild woman. If it weren't for Xiao Hua and the little wild donkey, they would have thought she was a beggar.
On the pasture in front of the breeding farm, Dandan and Qingqing, who were playing with the baby Tibetan foxes, recognized their mother.
They came running, crying and shouting.
"Mom, I miss you."
"Mom, Qingqing misses you too."
The two little ones clung to their mother's legs and cried.
"Mom misses Dandan and Qingqing too."
Lu Fangfang stroked the heads of the two children, a smile appearing on her rough face.
"Awoo~"
The little yellow dog also ran over from the meadow.
It glanced at Lu Fangfang, then at Xiaohua and the little wild donkey, its face full of disappointment.
"Okay, next time I have the chance, I'll definitely take you with me."
Lu Fangfang bent down, picked up the little yellow dog, and comforted it.
Back home, she took off her dirty clothes and took a hot shower.
She didn't forget Little Flower and Little Wild Donkey either, and gave them a good wash.
That night, Lu Fangfang lay down in the soft quilt, still feeling a little uncomfortable.
"Honey, you've lost weight."
Zhuang Mingcheng held his wife tightly, his eyes stinging with tears.
"You've lost weight, but Mingcheng, I've learned so much from Xiaohua and Xiaoyelu on this trip."
Lu Fangfang lay in her husband's arms, telling him about her experiences along the way.
It was so comfortable under the covers that she quickly became drowsy.
In her daze, she heard the cry of a snow leopard outside, coming from the grasslands to the northeast.
She felt a surge of joy, knowing that it was Big Fatty calling for Little Flower.
The following night, Xiaohua didn't leave; she was still asleep at home.
In the early hours of the morning, Lu Fangfang heard the snow leopard's mournful cries again.
You could tell that Da Pang really missed Xiao Hua.
After daybreak, Lu Fangfang stroked Xiaohua's head and urged it to go back.
It's been over a month since I left Da Pang, I can't neglect him.
"Meow~"
Xiao Hua reluctantly nuzzled Lu Fangfang before running towards the snow-capped mountains to the south.
People will always part ways someday.
