Chapter 104 Building a Snowman

Wei Mo had no choice but to start getting dressed with a helpless expression. After thinking for a moment, he realized that even without the big white steamed buns, building a snowman would be a good alternative.

Then she quickly ran out of the room and, together with her two older sisters, Wei Xiaomin and Wei Xiaohui, started building a snowman.

The old man was clearing the snow from the doorway to the courtyard gate when the other female educated youths got up and quickly went to help.

The old man was overjoyed to see so many girls surrounding him, and quickly said...

"No need, no need, just consider it exercise."

But Li Xiuxiu snatched the broom from her and said...

"Dad, come inside and rest. It's too cold outside, but it's warm inside."

Then Li Xiuxiu started clearing the snow, and the other female educated youths followed suit, clearing the snow out of the yard.

The cleared snow piled up, and Wei Xiaomin, Wei Xiaohui, and Wei Mo built a huge snowman there.

Wei Xiaomin stood to the side, looking at her younger brother, and said...

"Little brother, little brother, let's build a big one."

Wei Mo nodded and said to his older sister.

"Okay, I'll go make a snowman's head, and you and Big Sister can make the snowman's body!"

"Okay, okay, little brother, you make it bigger!"

Wei Xiaomin and Wei Xiaohui piled the snow higher and higher, until it was more than a meter high, while Wei Mo pinched a small snowball and placed it on the ground.

The snowball rolled on the ground, getting bigger and bigger until, with Wei Mo's help, it formed a huge circle.

Seeing that no family members were paying attention to this side, Wei Mo thought for a moment, then picked up the snowball and placed it on the snow pile, and the shape of a snowman was completed.

Wei Xiaomin clapped her hands, overjoyed, but also somewhat dissatisfied.

"Little brother, little brother, the snowman is missing some things, shall we go and go find them?"

The bare snowman didn't look very pretty, and Wei Mo nodded in agreement. Then the three children searched around the house.

"Sister, carrots can be used for the nose and eyes. Let's use mud for the mouth! Then we'll stick the broom into the snow pile to make arms."

Upon hearing this, Wei Xiaomin's eyes lit up, and she immediately sprang into action, talking as she ran.

"Okay, little brother, I'll go find carrots."

Wei Xiaohui was still a child after all, and she also liked to build snowmen. She took a bucket and put it on the snowman's head to make it a hat.

Soon, a small snowman gradually took shape in the hands of the three children.

The three siblings continued to add accessories to the snowman.

"Little brother, little brother, does this look like a button?"

Wei Xiaomin picked up a pebble and pressed it against the snowman's chest.

Wei Mo nodded in agreement. Wei Xiaohui then began searching for pebbles and began attaching them to the snowman, making it more and more perfect.

Not long after the family had a happy meal, Li Dazhuang came looking for the old village chief.

Seeing Li Dazhuang's expression, Wei Mo knew something must have happened, so he moved closer to listen in.

"Grandpa, a lot of chickens have been going missing in the village lately. How's the situation here? Have any chickens been stolen?"

The old man was taken aback when he heard the captain ask that question.

"My chicken went missing a couple of days ago too. What happened? Is something wrong?"

Hearing the old man say that, Li Dazhuang hesitated before speaking.

"The chickens have been disappearing very strangely lately. We live near the foot of the mountain and have civets and weasels, but they've never disappeared like this before."

"At least seven or eight chickens have gone missing from the whole village. I feel like someone might be up to something."

Upon hearing that someone was playing tricks, Wei Mo frowned.

You have to understand that in those days every household was desperately poor. If they wanted to exchange money, they basically had to rely on their chickens to lay eggs so they could exchange them for some cash at the supply and marketing cooperative.

The old man frowned and asked the captain.

"Dazhuang, have you discovered something?"

Li Dazhuang shook his head, looking helpless, and said...

"No, if I had discovered the situation, I would have dealt with it directly. But I really had no other choice, so I came to you for advice. What do you think we should do, sir?"

What good ideas do I have?

Before Li Dazhuang could continue speaking, the old man interrupted him.

Li Dazhuang scratched his head, unsure of what to do, and then turned his gaze to Xiao Weimo, wondering if Xiao Weimo had any good ideas.

"If you want to attack here," Li Dazhuang asked Wei Mo.

"Xiao Wei Mo, do you have any ideas? Can you find a way to catch the chicken thief?"

"Let's see if it's man-made, or if there really is a weasel or a civet. If it's the latter two, we need to think of a solution. We can't just keep leaving them like this."

Wei Mo frowned slightly and said to Li Dazhuang,

"Let me think about it."

After all, chickens in every household are free-range and often let out to roam, so it's really hard to know what happened when they go missing.

However, he had a group of underlings; he could ask them later and see if they had discovered anything. Thinking this, Wei Mo spoke up directly.

"Uncle Dazhuang, did the chickens go missing during the day or at night?"

When Li Dazhuang heard Wei Mo asking, he told Wei Mo what had happened.

"They were all discovered when the hens came home at night, so they must have been lost during the day."

After thinking about this, Wei Mo nodded and said to Li Dazhuang.

"I'll ask the other children in the village later. They often play outside, and maybe they'll discover something."

When Li Dazhuang heard Wei Mo's opinion, his eyes lit up. If it really was done by villagers, they would definitely slip up.

After all, many children play outside every day, so there might be some clues.

Li Dazhuang nodded and said to Wei Mo,

"Alright, then I'll leave this to you. If you do a good job, I'll reward you with a tea mug later."

Upon hearing that the reward was a tea mug, Wei Mo couldn't help but purse his lips. He had plenty of those broken tea mugs; who cared about such a thing?

He could even buy anything from the mall, but he didn't say much. It would be good to check on the village; if it really was a yellow pear or a weasel, they would have to think of other ways.

If it was caused by human intervention, then we should also help the village solve this problem, since we also lost a hen at home.

Thinking of this, Wei Mo spoke directly to the old man and Li Dazhuang.

"Then I'll go out and ask around to see if anyone has seen anything."

The old man and Li Dazhuang nodded, and Wei Mo ran out. Wei Xiaomin saw her younger brother running out and assumed he was going to play, so she followed closely behind.

Wei Mo planned to first ask Shan Zhenjiang and Shan Zhenhai about the situation.

"Brother Wei Mo, what brings you here? What are we doing today? Shall we have a snowball fight?"

Upon hearing Shan Zhenhai's question, Wei Mo shook his head and addressed the two of them.

"Have you seen anyone stealing chickens, or have you seen weasels or wildcats in the village?"

The two shook their heads, and Wei Mo then spoke to them again.

“Our village has lost chickens. I think we should help the village catch the culprit and find out if it was a weasel, a civet, or a human.”

"Okay, let's catch the bad guys, the weasels, and the wild boars!"

"Then I hereby declare the reconnaissance team officially established. Do you two want to join?"
