Chapter 76 Soy Milk and Tofu Pudding

The three of them came together to the newly built stove, next to which were the soybeans that Li Xiuxiu had soaked the night before, and next to the stone mill.

Wei Mo broke free from Xiu Xiu's embrace and addressed the two of them.

“Aunt Xiuxiu, in a little while you turn this millstone, and Aunt Manman, you take the soybeans, mix them with water, and fill them into this little hole on top.”

Wei Mo directed them from the side, and the two of them did as he said. The millstone was pushed by Li Xiuxiu and kept turning, and white foam and dregs appeared on the edge of the millstone.

White water also appeared in the trough next to it, and Wei Mo quickly found a large basin and put it under the gap.

Qian Manman saw white foam appearing, some of it yellowish, and asked Wei Mo,

"Wei Mo, Wei Mo, what is this?"

Having never made tofu before, Qian Manman didn't know how to make it. After Wei Mojie put the basin down, he looked up and told Qian Manman.

"Aunt Manman, this is soybean pulp and juice. We'll be using these to make tofu later."

Then he looked at Li Xiuxiu, who was pushing the millstone. Pushing a millstone is tiring, and Wei Mo was worried that Li Xiuxiu was getting too tired, so he said...

"Aunt Xiuxiu, let me push it for a while. It's too tiring to do it alone."

Actually, Wei Mo's power is not small now, but how could Li Xiuxiu bear to let Wei Mo do it?

Moreover, this amount of work was nothing to Li Xiuxiu, so she shook her head and spoke to Wei Mo beside her.

"No need, no need, Auntie isn't tired. Just tell us what to do."

As soybeans were added to the millstone little by little, ten pounds of soybeans mixed with water were finally added and ground into soybean pulp with a lot of water in it, filling two large basins.

Then Li Xiuxiu sat down to rest. Wei Mo jogged over, took his sleeve, and wiped the sweat from Li Xiuxiu's hair, saying as he did so...

"Aunt Xiuxiu must be exhausted! You sit here and rest first. You can leave the rest of the work to me and Aunt Manman."

Qian Manman nodded repeatedly from the side.

"That's right, that's right, Xiuxiu, your job is too tiring. Leave the rest to us."

Li Xiuxiu nodded in agreement, after all, pushing a stone mill was really not easy, so she sat aside and watched Wei Mo and Qian Manman continue operating it.

"Aunt Manman, boil some water first, pour all the soybean pulp and soup into the pot, and then add some more water."

Qian Manman listened to Wei Mo's instructions and followed them to light the stove.

He kept adding firewood to the stove, and as the bean curd residue in the pot boiled, Wei Mo gave instructions to Qian Manman.

"Aunt Manman, scoop out all the soybean pulp and broth from these pots first."

Li Xiuxiu, who was standing nearby, also came over to help, and together with Qian Manman, they scooped all the juice and bean dregs from the pot into several bowls.

Then Wei Mo went to his trading shop and bought a very fine piece of gauze. He also bought a small bottle of braising liquid. He was surprised to find that braising liquid was available for sale.

The cost of these two items was a piece of cake for Wei Mo now. Wei Mo hurriedly ran into the house, actually to get these two items, but he had no choice but to take them out in front of the two people.

As Wei Mo ran back, the two had already packed the things and placed them aside. Wei Mo handed the gauze to Qian Manman and Li Xiuxiu and then spoke.

"Aunt Manman, Aunt Xiuxiu, let's filter out the juice first. We need this juice to make tofu."

Qian Manman and Li Xiuxiu were somewhat incredulous, as they had always thought tofu was made from soybean dregs.

"Little brat, do you only want this juice?"

Wei Mo nodded to the side.

"Yes, yes,"

Then the two people started working on it. As they shook the gauze back and forth, the bean curd residue was left on the gauze.

The bottom is filled with several bowls of soy milk. Actually, the soy milk at this point is already drinkable, but it's just not sweet. Adding some sugar will make it the soy milk that everyone drinks.

After filtering out all the soybean pulp, Wei Mo nodded.

"Aunt Manman, in a little while, please put this soy milk into the wooden trough that I made."

Then he looked at Li Xiuxiu standing next to him.

"Aunt Xiuxiu, you can go and move a few bricks to weigh it down later."

Following Wei Mo's instructions, the two nodded in agreement, and Qian Manman poured the soy milk into the wooden trough.

Meanwhile, the area was covered with cloth. After adding the brine, Wei Mo stirred it, then covered the lid. Li Xiuxiu placed a brick on top and waited for the tofu to be made.

Making tofu takes time, so Wei Mo ladled out some more soy milk into a basin, added some brine to it, and then left it there.

Qian Manman looked at Wei Mo with a puzzled expression.

"Little brat, what's this?"

After all, it was something Qian Manman had never handled before. Wei Mo pointed to the basin and said,

"This will turn into tofu pudding in a little while, it'll be delicious."

Both of them marveled at Wei Mo's intelligence; he knew so much at such a young age.

There's still a lot of soy milk left in the bowl; we can add some saccharin and drink it directly later.

Seeing that the work was almost ready, Wei Mo spoke to Qian Manman.

"Aunt Manman, why don't you fry some dough sticks? We'll have soy milk with dough sticks for breakfast, it's so delicious, and we can also have a bowl of tofu pudding."

Qian Manman's eyes lit up at the mention of food. She nodded to Wei Mo and then began making fried dough sticks.

Wei Mo, who had gotten up too early, yawned and was carried back to his room by Li Xiuxiu to continue resting.

Wei Mo lay in Li Xiuxiu's arms. He was still too young and quite sleepy. He gradually fell asleep, and as time passed, he drifted off to sleep.

After Qian Manman finished frying the dough sticks, she started calling everyone to get up and eat.

Upon hearing the sound, Wei Mo yawned and got off the bed, then took Li Xiuxiu's hand and headed towards the kitchen.

The table was already piled high with Qian Manman's deep-fried dough sticks, and next to it was a bowl of tofu pudding and soy milk. Wei Mo's eyes lit up when he saw it.

I quickly found the saccharin in the dish rack and added it to the soy milk.

As the whole family got up and came to the kitchen, they kept asking Qian Manman what the tofu pudding in that bowl was.

Everyone has drunk soy milk and eaten tofu pudding, but I've never seen one in such a whole block.

Qian Manman answered from the side,

"This is soy milk and tofu pudding that Wei Mo made this morning. The tofu should be ready soon too."

Upon hearing Qian Manman's words, everyone turned their attention to Wei Mo. Wei Mo picked up a spoon and scooped the tofu pudding into everyone's bowls, one piece at a time, before speaking.

"Aunt Manman, please go and make some savory and sweet sauces. You can add whatever sauce you like. It would be best to add some fresh cilantro and chopped green onions as well. It will taste delicious."

Upon hearing Wei Mo's words, Qian Manman began preparing the sauce, which was not difficult for her, given her expertise in cooking.

Hearing Wei Mo's words, Wei's mother quickly ran to the yard, picked some cilantro and scallions, and started chopping them on the cutting board.

Just as they were about to add it to the tofu pudding, Grandpa and Grandma Yu came into the room. Seeing the soy milk and tofu pudding, they were amazed and praised it highly.

"My eldest grandson is really amazing. He's made so many things. He truly deserves to be called the number one prodigy in our village."
