Wei Mo and Li Xiuxiu lay on the kang for a long time until they heard Qian Manman's voice.
"Dinner's ready! Come on over, everyone! Dinner's ready, come back home!"
Then, Wei Mo felt his stomach was empty. He quickly got up from the kang (a heated brick bed) and walked towards the table.
Li Xiuxiu had also gotten up. Seeing that Wei Mo had regained his energy, she was very happy. She was just afraid that Wei Mo would feel burdened.
After all, he's still a child. With something so big happening, I'm afraid he won't be able to calm down.
At the dinner table, everyone kept asking about Li Xiuxiu's injury, but Li Xiuxiu replied indifferently,
"It's nothing, everyone don't need to worry, this minor injury will be fine in a couple of days."
Grandma Yu scolded Li Xiuxiu for her indifference, and Li Xiuxiu could only listen obediently.
"You're such a big girl now, be careful next time! It must hurt so much."
Wei's mother, who was standing next to her, also spoke up.
"That's right, be careful next time. Don't go up the mountain for a while."
Touched by Grandma Yu and Sister Wang's concern, Li Xiuxiu nodded to them and made a promise.
"Sister Wang, Aunt Yu, don't worry, I promise I'll be careful and make sure this doesn't happen again!"
After lunch, Wei Mo returned to his room to rest, though he was still feeling unwell.
After all, he had never experienced anything like this before, and even an adult would find it hard to accept.
Wei Mo, lying on the kang (a heated brick bed), slowly fell asleep. Li Xiuxiu wanted to go to the yard to weave fish baskets, but was scolded by Wei's mother, who cared about her.
"Does our family need your work points? Get back home and rest right now."
Even the old man standing to the side remarked,
"Exactly! I'm taking my daughter's place right now. She's not going to starve, so why would she come to work injured?"
Li Xiuxiu was pushed back into the room, and couldn't help but think, "Life is so good now. They are my family now, aren't they?"
She treats me even better than my own family! Thinking of this, I can't help but think of my own mother.
If I had followed my mother's wishes back then, I'd probably be married by now, and I wouldn't be enjoying my current life.
Lost in thought, she returned to Wei Mo's room, intending to rest on the kang (heated brick bed), only to find Wei Mo covered in sweat and waving his little hands incessantly, clearly having a nightmare.
Seeing Wei Mo's state, Li Xiuxiu felt very sorry for him. She lay down next to him, patting his back gently and comforting him softly.
"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, I'm here! It'll be alright soon, everything will be alright."
Wei Mo seemed to have truly sensed it, and became much quieter, ceasing his hand waving and gradually calming down.
Li Xiuxiu wiped the sweat from Wei Mo's forehead with her sleeve. Looking at the little adult in front of her, she was truly moved. She couldn't help but think of the axe that Wei Mo had swung, which was incredibly cool.
That dashing axe strike saved her life; she gently kissed Wei Mo's delicate cheek.
Wei Mo was sleeping soundly, and Li Xiuxiu quietly stayed by his side, patting his little bottom and coaxing him to sleep.
Looking at Wei Mo's baby face in front of her, Li Xiuxiu gradually fell asleep. Both of them had been mentally stimulated and needed rest.
As night fell, the two were woken up by Wei's mother. Li Xiuxiu felt a little embarrassed, after all, she hadn't helped with any chores at home all day.
Wei Mo groggily opened his eyes, looked at his mother in front of him, and said,
"Mom, what time is it? I'm hungry again."
Wang Zhenhua rolled his eyes at Wei Mo, looking at his sleepy-eyed appearance, and said.
"So you do know you're hungry! It's already evening, why have you slept so long? Let's see if you're going to sleep tonight."
Wei Mo didn't reply to his mother. Instead, he happily got out of bed, looked at Li Xiuxiu beside him, and said...
"Auntie, let's go eat. It's all over now."
Wei's mother listened to her son's rambling words and didn't understand them either, but Li Xiuxiu understood them perfectly.
Even though Wei Mo had a nightmare, the little brat still comforted her. Li Xiuxiu felt a warmth in her heart after hearing Wei Mo's words.
Wang Zhenhua turned around and took Li Xiuxiu and his beloved son to dinner.
Li Xiuxiu couldn't help but think of the dream she had just had that afternoon, and felt a little embarrassed and guilty.
Her dream was strange; Wei Mo had become an adult with Wei Mo's baby face, constantly appearing in her dreams and helping her no matter what difficulties she encountered. Later, she even sacrificed herself to repay Wei Mo's kindness...
Li Xiuxiu felt ashamed. She was such a grown woman, yet she had such a dream about a child. She was too embarrassed to talk about it.
She looked at Wei Mo in front of her, and then her face turned red. Dinner was still plentiful, after all, Wei Mo had prepared a lot of flour and oil beforehand.
Qian Manman somehow got hold of red bean paste, added saccharin, and started making red bean buns. Each bun was plump and white, looking very appetizing.
Grandpa and Grandma Yu were used to their family's extravagant spending and lavish meals every day. They gave Wei's mother a reproachful look and said...
"Goddaughter, what kind of family do we come from? You should be a little more careful in the future. If you keep eating like this, no family can withstand it."
Wei's mother was embarrassed. She smiled, but instead of directly answering her godfather's question, she gave a perfunctory reply.
"Okay, okay, okay, I know, I know. Your godfather just wants you to eat well. You're getting old, it's time for you to enjoy your retirement!"
Grandma Yu was touched by Wei Ma's words, and she gently patted the old man's back.
"My daughter is filial, what's it to you?"
Grandpa Yu could only look at his wife with resentment. "I'm disciplining the child, can't you give me some face?"
Every day at home is filled with such joy.
Li Xiuxiu and Wei Mo exchanged a glance, and their moods immediately improved. Looking at their family in front of them, Wei Mo felt that he would definitely live a very happy life.
His greatest wish had always been to have a family that loved him like this. Wei Mo couldn't help but recall how he was all alone in his previous life, and how he suffered betrayal from his brothers and women. He felt that he had lived his entire previous life in vain.
Wei Mo, who had slept all afternoon, lay on the kang (a heated brick bed) tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. After all, he was just a child, and he didn't have much sleep to take, especially since he had rested for so long in the afternoon.
He couldn't help but fix his gaze on Li Xiuxiu, who was chatting with Wang Zhenhua and Grandma Yu outside, and thought of that big white steamed bun!
Wei Mo involuntarily swallowed. As night fell and darkness descended, Grandma Yu and Grandpa Yu went back to rest.
Li Xiuxiu also spoke to Wei Ma.
"Um... Sister Wang, I'm a little tired too. I'll go back and rest first. I'll definitely be able to work tomorrow."
Upon hearing Li Xiuxiu's words, Wang Zhenhua lightly patted her back in a reproachful tone and said,
"What nonsense are you talking about? Do you think our family needs your work points? You won't bankrupt the family. Just stay home and rest."
"You're not allowed to go even to collect the fish baskets tomorrow. Wang Ling, Yu Juan, and I will go together. Do you understand?"
Li Xiuxiu shook her head, wanting to refuse, but was gently pushed back to Wei Mo's room by Wei's mother.
"Go and rest. Don't worry about things at home. Just focus on healing your wounds."
After speaking, Wei Ma did not allow Li Xiuxiu to refuse. She turned and left, returning to her room to rest.
Li Xiuxiu watched Sister Wang turn and leave, and sighed. She was so lucky to have met Wei Mo and such a wonderful Sister Wang.
Li Xiuxiu felt incredibly happy. Looking at the little boy on the kang (a heated brick bed) with his darting eyes, she wondered what mischief he was up to.
