Defending the Country

Wei Guo left home after Wang Zhenhua became pregnant because he wanted to give his children a better future.

After returning home from six years of military service, he was naturally overjoyed to see his son and daughter.

However, he suffers from a hidden ailment, and his whole body aches terribly on cloudy or rainy days.

On the first day after his return, he and Wang Zhenhua slept in Wei Mo and Li Xiuxiu's room that night.

Li Xiuxiu and Wei Mo also moved to the east room. After all, the couple hadn't been together for a long time, and they must have a lot to talk about.

After Wei Guo took off his outer clothes, Wang Zhenhua looked at his scars all over his body and felt particularly sorry for him.

She reached out and touched the scars, tears welling in her eyes. Wei Guo saw this and comforted Wang Zhenhua, then smiled at her before speaking:

"No problem, these are just minor injuries and nothing to worry about. They won't have any impact on the future."

Upon seeing this, Wang Zhenhua sighed, took out a small brocade box from her bosom, and handed it to Wei Guo.

Wei Guo was taken aback, thinking it was a gift his wife had prepared for him. But when he opened the brocade box, he found a golden pill.

Just as he was about to ask, Wang Zhenhua picked up the pill and fed it into his mouth.

The pill melted instantly upon entering his mouth, and he began to feel hot all over. His previous ailment vanished in an instant, and he felt completely refreshed. Even his previous scars began to slowly heal.

This continued for a while, and as he felt his body, all the hidden ailments disappeared.

Wei Guo hurriedly asked Wang Zhenhua:

"Zhenhua, what did you give me to eat? The effect is amazing, where did it come from?"

Upon hearing Wei Guo's question, Wang Zhenhua frowned and said to him:

"You will know the reason later. Don't ask any more questions, and don't tell anyone."

Hearing that his wife didn't want to talk, Wei Guo could only nod, and then the couple, who had been separated for a long time, began to rest.

After waking up the next day, Wei Guo became Wei Mo's big follower. Wherever Wei Mo went, Wei Guo followed. He would agree to anything Wei Mo wanted to do.

Meanwhile, Wei Mo's goodwill towards Wei Guo slowly increased until two months later.

Wei Guo finally witnessed Wei Mo's amazing abilities. After Wei Mo told him this secret, he quickly covered Wei Mo's mouth and instructed Wei Mo at the same time:

"Son, don't tell anyone this secret. Everyone knows now."

Wei Mo pursed his lips and then said:

"Now Aunt Xiuxiu, Grandpa and Grandma, and Mom all know about it."

Why was he so satisfied with Wei Guo's tense expression? After witnessing Wei Mo's amazing abilities, Wei Guo protected Wei Mo by his side at all times.

Whenever Wei Mo leaves home, Wei Guo immediately follows behind him, no matter what he is doing.

Wei Mo was initially a little troubled, but he knew that Wei Guo was worried about him. Moreover, Wei Guo was skilled in martial arts and was even more adept at using a gun. Every time they went hunting in the mountains, Wei Guo was the one who had the advantage.

Six months after Wei Guo returned, all his family members had accepted him, and his two daughters doted on him all the time.

Although his son seemed somewhat indifferent, he secretly cared for him, and he also learned that the pill he had received was a gift from his son.

Now he only has one thought in his mind: to take good care of his daughter and wife. Because of his departure over the years, his family must have had a hard time. So Weiguo's biggest wish is to make it up to his wife and children.

Wang Ling's Story

Wang Ling and Li Sanpang lived a very happy life. With Wei Mo's help, Li Sanpang reaped a bountiful harvest every year.

Wang Ling gave birth to a daughter as her first child, which almost made Li Sanpang extremely excited. He hoped that he would have a daughter as well-mannered and knowledgeable as Wang Ling.

However, Wang Ling was extremely dissatisfied and urged Li Sanpang to pay the grain tax every day. Then, in the second year, Wang Ling finally gave birth to a big, healthy boy, and only then was she satisfied.

Wei Mo also frequently visits his cousins, often bringing them toys.

With Wei Mo's help, Li Sanpang's life is becoming increasingly comfortable.

In addition, Wang Ling was a teacher at the school and had been earning work points for the family. The two of them saved up money for a year and built a large brick house.

Of course, the two of them are most grateful to Wei Mo's family for enabling them to live such a good life.

It's common for couples to argue. Once, Wang Ling and Li Sanpang had only exchanged a few words, and Wang Ling angrily returned to her parents' home.

After complaining to Grandma Yu for a few minutes, the old man heard this, grabbed a big stick, and ran out.

After Wang Ling realized what was happening, she quickly followed behind, trying to stop the old man, but the old man's legs were too weak for Wang Ling to keep up with.

The old man rushed into Li Sanpang's house and started hitting him with a stick. Li Sanpang could only passively take the beating and dared not fight back.

"Godfather, godfather, I was wrong. I will never dare to do it again. I will definitely take good care of Wang Ling from now on."

The old man didn't tolerate Li Sanpang's bad habits at all. By the time Wang Ling ran back to the front door, Li Sanpang had already been given a severe beating.

Hearing the noise, Li Dazhuang, who lived in the neighboring courtyard, knew that Li Sanpang had angered Wang Ling so much that she went home to confront the old man. He dared not go.

Seeing that the old man seemed to be tired and was resting on the side, he took the stick and started swinging it wildly at Li Sanpang again. Li Sanpang was beaten into submission.

He had already realized his mistake, and after Wang Ling left, he wanted to go to Wei Mo's house to apologize to her.

As a result, she was severely beaten by the old man and her own older brother. When Wang Ling ran home, she saw Li Dazhuang beating someone and quickly stopped him.

Then she held Li Sanpang in her arms, wiping away his wounds and bloodstains. Li Sanpang smiled and said to Wang Ling:

"Honey, I was wrong. I'll never do it again."

Wang Ling looked at Li Sanpang, who was covered in bruises, and gave Old Master Yu and Li Dazhuang a reproachful look.

The old man and Li Dazhuang scratched their heads somewhat awkwardly and quickly left.

Wang Ling, feeling a little embarrassed, spoke to Li Sanpang in her arms:

"I'm sorry, it's all my fault. I made my godfather and older brother beat you up."

Li Sanpang shook his head, smiled at Wang Ling, and said:

"No way. If you could forgive me after I beat you up, then this beating would have been totally worth it."

The two lingered tenderly for a long time until Li Sanpang finally asked:

"Wife, where's the baby?"

Wang Ling slapped her forehead, realizing she had rushed back and forgotten the child at Wei Mo's house, but the two of them didn't seem worried.

Since there were people at Wei Mo's house helping them look after their children, the two smiled at each other. Wang Ling helped Li Sanpang up, cleaned his wounds, and then the two walked hand in hand toward Wei Mo's house.

Yu Juan's Story

After Yu Juan returned to work in the provincial capital, she would send letters to Wei Mo's family from time to time, and she would also receive letters from Wei Mo's family.

She was always overjoyed whenever she received a letter from Wei Mo's family. She had been working in the county town for three years until she met the man she loved.

Just as the two were preparing to get married, Yu Juan couldn't help but send a letter to Wei Mo's family.

To her delight, Wei Mo's entire family came to the wedding, and Yu Juan was so moved that she burst into tears.

Seeing her family members whom she hadn't seen for so long, Yu Juan almost gave up on getting married. Fortunately, the groom knew a lot about Yu Juan's situation.

Knowing that Yu Juan had such a large family, they quickly arranged a separate table for Wei Mo's family and hosted a private banquet for them.

Yu Juan stayed with Wei Mo's family until the wedding ended. Wei Mo's family stayed there for a few more days before returning to the village.

After getting married, Yu Juan often wrote letters to Wei Mo's family, and she also frequently received various things mailed to her by Wei Mo's family.

Two years later, Yu Juan became pregnant and gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl. The boy took her husband's surname, while the girl, at Yu Juan's strong insistence, was given the surname Wei.

Her husband agreed without hesitation, because he knew that Yu Juan always considered herself a member of the Wei Mo family.

When she informed Wei Mo's family about this, the old man immediately instructed Wei Guo without saying a word.

They gave Wei Guo a lot of gold and secretly had two huge gold longevity locks made for the child, each weighing several tens of grams.

Wei Mo guessed that it would be too heavy for a child to carry, so he might as well take it himself. However, he would never say such a thing. In fact, he had even prepared a gift to send to Aunt Yu Juan's child.

Wei Mo prepared simple toys: two exquisite wave drums that he bought in the space, which would also be suitable for Yu Juan's children to play with.

Yu Juan's family and Wei Mo's family had a close relationship and were very good to each other, and Yu Juan's life was particularly pleasant.

Zhou Fen's Story

A year after Wei Guo returned, a soldier also came to Wei Mo's house. This soldier was Wang Changjun, who had been writing letters to Zhou Fen.

Upon seeing the visitor, Zhou Fen burst into tears of joy. The two had already secretly pledged their lives to each other in the letter.

Wang Changjun's family situation is quite complicated, and he has always been arranged to marry by his older brother and sister-in-law.

However, Wang Changjun was stubborn and insisted on marrying Zhou Fen. In the end, he ran away from the village and went to Daliu Village where Wei Mo lived.

He carried his luggage and came alone to look for Zhou Fen. When Wei Guo saw him, he immediately went to help.

As soon as he took the luggage from Wang Changjun, Wang Changjun ran towards Zhou Fen like a wild horse.

Seeing Zhou Fen standing there, he immediately hugged her and then said:

"Zhou Fen, I ran away from home. From now on, you're all I have. I love you. Will you marry me?"

The two had been corresponding, and Zhou Fen knew everything about Wang Changjun's family situation. She even considered going to Wang Changjun's house herself.

However, the old man stopped her, saying that it would be inappropriate and dangerous for a young girl to come to the door directly.

As a result, after receiving Zhou Fen's letter, Wang Changjun left home immediately, taking only his luggage and some savings from his military service.

Zhou Fen and Wang Changjun had only met twice, but they hit it off immediately, and Zhou Fen was a little shy.

However, feeling the warmth of Wang Changjun's embrace, she nodded to him and then let out a soft "Mmm".

Wang Changjun was extremely excited; he picked up Zhou Fen and spun her around.

With Wang Changjun's arrival, he quickly built a house in the village, under the old man's supervision.

She thought Wang Changjun was a good person, so she finally agreed to Zhou Fen's marriage to him, and the two got married not long after.

In the year they got married, at Zhou Fen's suggestion, Wang Changjun brought his elderly mother to his home.

Wang Changjun's mother was also a very kind person. The main reason why Wang Changjun couldn't stay at home was because his older brother and sister-in-law were overly concerned about his money and marriage.

A year later, Zhou Fen became pregnant and gave birth to a son for Wang Changjun. Wang Changjun and his elderly mother then settled down in Daliu Village.

Money Full Chapter

Qian Manman has been very troubled lately. In the years since Wei Guo returned, Wei Mo's family has been very happy every day.

However, in the past two years, Grandma Yu and Grandpa Yu have been urging her to get married more and more frequently, from mentioning it once a month to mentioning it once a week.

As a result, this issue has to be brought up several times a day now, and getting money is giving me a real headache.

She really didn't want to get married; she just wanted to stay in this family. Grandpa and Grandma Yu had been worrying themselves sick over the money.

However, Qian Manman just doesn't want to get married. Now she's even a little afraid of marriage. Isn't it better to live alone? Besides, she has such a big family who love her.

After a few days of stalemate, Grandpa Yu and Grandma Yu had no choice but to give up and leave Qian Manman alone.

When Qian Manman found out, she was very happy. She cooked and drank well for the family every day and was very excited. However, she still often saw Grandma Yu's resentful eyes.

However, due to an unexpected event, Qian Manman, who was originally terrified of marriage, changed her mind about not getting married. This unexpected event came very suddenly.

When Qian Manman went to the county town to buy seasonings, she encountered a few thugs. Just as Qian Manman was running away, a soldier stepped forward, knocked all the criminals to the ground, and then tied them up with rope.

Qian Manman was pleasantly surprised when she saw this, and then carefully examined the soldier in front of her. During their conversation, she learned that the soldier was looking for Wei Guo and was Wei Guo's comrade-in-arms.

Qian Manman then acted as a guide, speaking to the soldier:

"I am from Weiguo's family. Weiguo is my brother-in-law. I'm going to the county town to buy some materials. I'll be home in a bit. If you don't want to, you can come with me."

The soldier nodded after hearing this. He felt it was too unsafe for such a beautiful girl like Qian Manman to be out and about.

He took the three criminals with him and escorted them to the county's public security bureau. After registering them, he and Qian's mother went to the supply and marketing cooperative.

After returning to Wei Mo's house, Wei Guo was particularly excited to see his comrade-in-arms. He went up to the young man, patted him on the shoulder, and asked:

"Xiao Linzi, you're here! Are you married?"

Zhang Lin was quite embarrassed when he heard this. He came to see his good older brother, only to be pressured to get married. However, he still shook his head.

He has now retired from the military, and his family is worrying about his marriage. Qian Manman, who is standing next to him, seems to be somewhat tempted when she sees him shaking his head.

After all, the hero saving the damsel in distress is an eternal topic. All of this was witnessed by Grandma Yu, whose eyes lit up. She pulled Zhang Lin aside and began to pry into his family's affairs.

Zhang Lin honestly confessed, and Old Master Yu pulled Wei Guo outside and began to question Zhang Lin about his character.

Seeing Qian Manman's budding romantic feelings, her family seemed to be giving her advice, and Zhang Lin was clearly very interested after learning that Qian Manman was still single.

Zhang Lin stayed at home for a few days, and soon the two got engaged. Zhang Lin's parents came to Wei Mo's house.

Seeing Qian Manman and learning about her cooking skills, he was extremely satisfied. In the winter of 1963, the two finally got married.

On their wedding day, Grandpa and Grandma Yu didn't cry; instead, they smiled very happily, as if a girl who had been rejected by someone had finally found a husband.

Li Taiping's Story

In the summer of 1963, Li Taiping stood nervously in front of his house, sweat pouring down his forehead, but he had no time to wipe it away.

As a baby cried out from inside the room, Li Taiping could no longer control himself and slowly sat down on the ground.

Meanwhile, the three siblings, Tian Boguang, Tian Yue, and Tian Xue, seeing their father's appearance, quickly used their sleeves to wipe away Li Taiping's sweat.

As the room door opened, Wang Zhenhua came out and, seeing the extremely nervous Li Taiping, congratulated him:

Congratulations, Taiping! Mother and child are safe and sound. You have a wonderful baby.

Upon hearing this, Li Taiping was completely paralyzed. Tian Xue, standing nearby, spoke up:

"Dad, Dad, it's a little brother! I'm going to have a little brother now."

Upon hearing Tian Xue's words, Li Taiping hugged Tian Xue and Tian Yue, kissed them both, and then said:

"Yes, you have a younger brother now. Our family has a new member."

Time passed, and Tian Xue and Tian Yue had grown up. Li Chunhua had arranged marriages for the two sisters today, but an unexpected incident occurred.

When Li Taiping saw the man trying to take his daughter's hand, he couldn't hold back and went over to give the boy on the blind date a good beating.

This led to the blind date falling through, but the two sisters, Tian Xue and Tian Yue, were particularly happy. They knew that their father couldn't bear to part with them.

Wei Family Chapter

As time went by, Wei Mo grew up, and before he knew it, it was 1976.

Wei Mo had been accumulating funds; he had saved up a large amount of resources and cash, just waiting for the reform and opening up.

Wei Xiaomin and Wei Xiaohui have reached marriageable age, but whenever Wei's mother says she wants to introduce potential partners to her two older sisters, Wei Mo always jumps out to stop her.

The result would be complaints from Wei's mother:

“You already have a wife, how can you stop your two older sisters from getting married? If you dare to stop me again, I’ll skin you alive next time.”

Wei Mo smiled awkwardly and nodded to Wang Zhenhua, promising:

"Don't worry, Mom, it definitely won't happen again. It's mainly because of this person. Look how short he is, he's not even as tall as my sister. How tall will their child be? No way, absolutely not."

As it turned out, within two days, Wang Zhenhua somehow found two more boys.

He was tall, but as thin as a stick, which Wei Mo rejected.

Enraged, Wang Zhenhua pulled out a rolling pin and chased Wei Mo all over the yard, looking as if he wouldn't be satisfied until he beat Wei Mo to death.

Wei Guo, however, stopped Wang Zhenhua. He was also dissatisfied with the two children, after all, they were his precious daughters, how could he let them marry so easily?

Li Xiuxiu chuckled as she watched Wei Mo's mischievous antics. Wei Mo was like a child who never grew up, always so happy.

The days spent with Wei Mo were very pleasant, while Wei Xiaomin and Wei Xiaohui cheered and applauded.

However, their true thoughts were that they didn't think those people were any good.

"Mom, hurry up and chase him! He'll catch up soon. Give him a good beating!"

Wei Xiaomin spoke up from the side, while Wei Xiaohui stopped her mother, and the whole family started playing around in the yard in a very lively atmosphere.

If outsiders saw this, they would think something was wrong at home, but it turned out to be just a casual family meal, with family members joking around and having fun.

Wang Zhenhua, exhausted from running, stood there panting heavily, pointing at Wei Mo with a rolling pin:

"Next time, if you dare to interfere again, I'll kill you."

Wei Mo nodded in agreement and said at the same time:

"Don't worry, Mom, there will definitely not be a next time."

Wang Zhenhua wasn't finished yet. She looked at Wei Guo, who was standing not far from her.

Wang Zhenhua, carrying a rolling pin, walked straight towards Wei Guo, lightly tapped him twice on the back, and said:

"Why don't you help me catch him? You're just standing here like an idiot. Do you want your daughter to be an old maid who can't get married?"

"This family is never-ending, they can't even let me rest. I'm just destined to worry."

After being hit twice, Wei Guo apologized to his wife with a smile on his face:

"I understand, Zhenhua. Don't worry, next time you hit him, I'll definitely help you catch him, and we'll fight him together."

Wang Zhenhua grinned when she heard this. It was always the same thing, just trying to fool someone. But she didn't care; she knew what Wei Mo was thinking.

If Wei Xiaomin and Wei Xiaohui really liked it, they would naturally speak up. Wei Mo was just using them as a shield.

Wei Mo glared at Wei Xiaohui and Wei Xiaomin beside him, then said:

"You two better hurry up and get married, stop staying at home all day and making me angry every day."

Wei Xiaomin made a face at Wang Zhenhua, then started to run away. Wang Zhenhua had just finished chasing Wei Mo and was exhausted. He pointed at Wei Xiaomin and said:

"You brat, you better not come back. If you do, you'll see if I don't teach you a lesson."

Wei Xiaohui nodded obediently to the side, but Wang Zhenhua knew in his heart that although his eldest daughter did not speak, she had even more ideas in her mind.

She looked at her family, feeling troubled, but there was no one she could confide in. Even Grandpa Yu and Grandma Yu, standing beside her, were watching her and laughing.

Wang Zhenhua walked up to the old man with a somewhat helpless expression, and then said:

"Godfather and godmother, you don't help me at all, you're just making fun of me."

The old man waved his hand, having seen everyone's expressions. He looked at Wei Xiaomin, who was peeking over the courtyard gate.

Looking at Wei Xiaohui, who was standing not far away observing Wang Zhenhua, looking at Wei Guo, who was awkwardly scratching his head to the side, and then looking at Wei Mo, who seemed to be behaving himself not far away.

There's also Li Xiuxiu, the virtuous wife and loving mother who stands beside Wei Mo.

Grandpa Yu smiled broadly, looking extremely happy, and then said to Wang Zhenhua:

"Zhenhua, only when we are together every day, in such a lively and bustling atmosphere, can we be a truly happy family."

The End

There might be a sequel set 1976, focusing on economic development, with Wei Mo as the protagonist again. I haven't decided yet.

I originally intended to continue writing this book, but I found that I had already written 500,000 words just about my childhood anecdotes.

I've been writing the new book for half a month now.

Siheyuan, are you trying to morally blackmail me right from the start?

We look forward to your reading.
