Chapter 35 The Old Village Chief Who Wanted to Become a Godfather

Li Xiuxiu is beautiful, rich, and exceptionally righteous. In Wei Mo's eyes, she's just a naive and innocent rich woman.

The scene shifts back to earlier, where Wei Mo was scouting ahead for Li Xiuxiu. After discovering the situation, the two famous sisters from the village were stopped by Wei Mo.

Li Xiuxiu quickly changed her route, took a detour, and entered the courtyard from behind the group.

In her naiveté, she threw the clothes off the shovel to the ground, revealing the prey underneath. Looking up, she saw the astonished old village chief standing in front of her.

Li Xiuxiu was dumbfounded. She knew that if an adult went up the mountain and hunted prey, at best the prey would be confiscated, at worst they would be criticized in a large meeting, or even be sentenced to be squatting in a fence.

"I did all of this; it has nothing to do with anyone else."

Li Xiuxiu stiffened her neck and looked at the old village chief opposite her. The old village chief was stunned by this silly girl, thought for a moment, and then pretended not to hear.

The people weaving fish baskets also saw what was happening and were stunned by the scene before them.

For more than a minute, it wasn't until Wei Mo came in and started directing Li Xiuxiu to bring the prey into the house that everyone who had entered the house realized that they were all peeking out from the doorway.

Wei Mo exchanged a few words with the old village chief and then escorted him to the outside of the courtyard.

The initially tense crowd immediately stepped forward to inquire about the situation.

"Little brat, did the old village chief say what to do with me?"

Li Xiuxiu was still worried and somewhat flustered, after all, she had already admitted that she was the one who hunted these prey.

Wei Mo rolled his eyes at the violent woman in front of him. When Wei's mother saw this, she patted Wei Mo's head and urged him on.

"Tell me quickly, what did the old village chief say about what just happened?"

"I've invited Grandpa Yu and Grandma Yu over for dinner later. Okay, that's all. Go about your business. Aunt Manman, hurry up and cook."

Hearing what Yu Mo said, the group breathed a sigh of relief.

Qian Manman quickly ran back into the house and began skinning the rabbit. Wang Ling and Yu Juan also came forward to help, while Wei Ma couldn't get a word in edgewise and continued weaving fish baskets with her two daughters.

Seeing that everyone had left, Li Xiuxiu went up and hugged Wei Mo in her arms, tears streaming down her face. She had been terrified just now; if she had really gone into the fence, her life would have been over.

Li Xiuxiu rested her head on Wei Moxiao's small body, sobbing softly, repeatedly saying, "Thank you, thank you, little brat."

Although Li Xiuxiu possessed immense strength, how could she possibly contend with this era? Terrified, Li Xiuxiu only wanted to hide on Wei Mo's shoulder and refuse to go out!

Wei Mo patted Li Xiuxiu on the back without saying a word, letting Li Xiuxiu lean on his small shoulder and cry.

"Pfft..."

Li Xiuxiu realized what was happening and, thinking about how she had been comforted by such a big kid, couldn't help but laugh out loud.

Seeing that Li Xiuxiu had returned to her previous innocent and naive self, Wei Mo felt relieved. He took Li Xiuxiu's somewhat rough hand, and the two of them began to weave fish baskets together.

"I'm telling you, you old fool, Zhenhua's family is already struggling enough, and you still insist on dragging me here to freeload. Everyone's having a hard time these days, barely any food left. What were you thinking?!"

Grandma Yu's voice came from outside the courtyard, growing louder as she continued to berate the old village chief.

Wei Mo quickly stood up and ran off towards the outside of the courtyard, shouting as he ran.

"Grandma Yu, Grandma Yu."

Wei Mo is still a child, and to survive here, he must maintain a good relationship with the old village chief.

Yu Guoliang's three sons all sacrificed their lives in the War of Resistance Against Japan. The old village chief was a martyr's family member, a poor peasant for five generations, and had no children of his own, so he doted on the children.

Although the most dangerous era had not yet arrived, the old village chief's status alone was enough to allow him to gain a foothold in that era.

Even now, town leaders frequently visit the old village chief, a status that no one can match.

Grandma Yu watched as the little boy with short legs ran towards her. She had already forgotten to scold the old man. She stretched out her arms to hug Wei Mo, while continuing to give him instructions.

"Be careful, be careful, oh dear, my little darling."

Wei Mo threw himself into Grandma Yu's arms and was picked up by her. Grandma Yu pinched Wei Mo's little cheeks and smiled very happily. This little rascal in her arms was just so lovable.

The old village chief also breathed a sigh of relief. He had been nagged by his wife all the way home, but was finally rescued after Wei Mo ran over.

The old man likes Wei Mo more and more now. If his son hadn't passed away so early, his grandson would probably be this age by now!

She couldn't help but miss her son who had sacrificed his life. Looking at Wei Mo in front of her, she realized he was also a pitiful child. His father was in the army, and his mother was taking care of him alone, without any help from her family.

Without any help from her family! The old village chief's eyes lit up at this thought, and a bold idea formed in his mind!

"Old woman, put the child down first, I need to talk to you about something!"

The old village chief decided to ask his wife's opinion. Seeing that her husband was a little agitated, Grandma Yu let Wei Mo go.

"Sweetie, you go inside first. I need to talk to your Grandpa Yu about something."

Wei Mo had no habit of eavesdropping on other people's privacy. He nodded and ran into the yard.

"Old woman, what do you think about us adopting Zhenhua as our goddaughter? She's all alone, without any family to help her. I see you really like Wei Mo, so why don't we..."

The old village chief deliberately lowered his voice as he discussed the matter with his wife.

Grandma Yu was stunned for a moment, then overjoyed. She nodded to the old village chief, grasped her husband's hand, and trembled slightly. Thinking that she would have a grandson and granddaughter, she nodded vigorously.

"That's the plan, old man! What if Zhenhua doesn't agree?"

Grandma Yu's originally excited face showed a hint of worry, and she began to shake the old village chief's hand.

"Don't worry, as the saying goes, sincerity can move mountains. As long as we move Zhenhua and treat her child well, I reckon she'll agree sooner or later. When we go inside, just watch my expression and do as I say."

Grandma Yu nodded after hearing what the old village chief said, and then followed him into the courtyard.

Hearing Wei Mo's call, Wang Zhenhua naturally came over to check. Seeing his son run back into the house, he felt it was somewhat impolite and quickly went to the gate of the courtyard to greet him.

The three of them met briefly. Grandma Yu tightened her grip on the old man's hand.

"Uncle Yu, Aunt Yu, please come inside and sit down."

Seeing that this was a good opportunity, since it wasn't appropriate to discuss this matter in front of others, the old village chief nudged Grandma Yu with his hand.

Grandma Yu understood immediately, took Wang Zhenhua's hand, and whispered something.

"Zhenhua, let's not go in yet. Your uncle and I have something to discuss with you."
