Chapter 16 Exchanging Fishing Rods

As a transmigrator, Wei Mo did not choose to build a brick house. Although this world was not the previous one, it had the same events as the previous life.

It's been 60 years now. If the events of the previous life really happen again in a few years, then whoever has money will be the one who suffers.

Wei Mo didn't want to risk any trouble; it was most important for him to stay honest and safe.

Just like now, every day is going well, that's good enough. I'll save some currency from the mall and secretly improve my family's living conditions.

When Wei Mo got home, he told Wang Zhenhua the news and took out the grain coupons and meat coupons he had received as compensation for the day from his pocket.

"Mom, I've finished talking to the brigade leader. You'll have to talk to the educated youth yourself. Keep this ticket; we can't let them help us for nothing."

"Mom, tell them that we've bought all the fish this summer, and if they come to help, we'll even provide meals."

Wang Zhenhua no longer cared about his son's maturity. Listening to his son's words, he walked towards the educated youth compound, sighing inwardly.

It was her son who stepped in to resolve the situation when her youngest daughter was mistreated. She felt a little resentful of herself for being useless, not even as good as a child, and for not being able to protect her own children.

After Wang Zhenhua left, Wei Mo began making spears, also known as skewer guns, which are wooden sticks with iron skewers attached.

The two older sisters gathered around their younger brother, now particularly admiring his craftsmanship. He not only makes fishing rods but also weaves fish baskets, and now he's making other things too.

"Little brother, what are you making?"

The older sister watched Wei Mo's creation with great curiosity; it looked quite dangerous.

"This is a spear for catching toads. When you see a toad, you use this to stab it. After I finish making it, you two can practice. Be careful not to prick yourselves."

Wei Xiaomin nodded and watched with her older sister as they made the spear.

Wei Mo's spears were very violent; to prevent escape, each spear was equipped with five iron spikes.

When Wei's mother returned, she saw several children in the yard poking at clods of earth with a stick. She ignored the three children and went straight into the house to cook.

Outside the courtyard, Tian Boguang and his two younger sisters came to find Wei Mo. Tian Xue and Tian Yue were carrying the earthworms and corn worms they had caught that day.

"Wei Mo, are you still going to switch between corn worms and earthworms?"

Wei Mo looked up and saw the three siblings coming toward him.

"Change it, but don't take the earthworms, just take the corn weevils."

Tian Xue was happy to hear Wei Mo's answer. Although they didn't want earthworms, there were still corn worms. The two of them had dug up the earthworms on their own initiative. Since Wei Mo didn't want them, they wouldn't dig any more tomorrow.

"Hey, take a look."

Wei Mo took the large clay pot handed to him by the two sisters. It was filled with plump, white corn worms. Wei Mo ran back into the house and caught two catfish for the two sisters. Wei's mother did not stop him, since her son had caught them.

"Here are two catfish for you. Come back and trade with me if you catch any more."

Tian Xue and Tian Yue happily caught the fish with their clothes and put them inside.

"Wei Mo, can I go fishing with you tomorrow?"

Tian Boguang spoke up from the side, saying frankly, Wei Mo was starting to look down on the fish he was fishing for; they were too slow! Seeing Wei Mo's brows furrow, Tian Boguang couldn't help but feel a little nervous.

Wei Mo's eyes lit up when he saw the courtyard!

“If you help me cut willow branches, it will be enough to fence my yard. I’ll give you three fishing rods. You can ask Brother Shan Zhenhai for help. One rod for each of you three.”

"Okay, I'll go find them." After saying that, Tian Boguang left with his younger sister, somewhat excited. There were quite a few willow branches to surround the Wei Mo family's courtyard, but it would only take three half-grown children a day to finish.

Then the fishing rods would belong to them. Tian Boguang thought it was a good deal, and he could also ask the adults in his family for help, since catching fish could supplement the family income.

Wei Mo planned to fence off the yard, allowing the willow branches to grow naturally. Many families in the village did not do this because it would attract birds that would wreak havoc on their yards, but Wei Mo was more than happy to do so.

He thought that he could hunt delicious birds without leaving home, and he felt that this deal was worthwhile.

After Tian Boguang left, he didn't want to ask the Shan brothers for help, so he went straight home and waited for the adults to finish work.

When the father, Tian Lao Er, returned home, he told the family about the situation. The family quickly ate dinner and then worked together to finish the task as soon as possible so as not to delay their work the next day.

Thinking about the big catfish they would eat that night, the whole family was full of energy and, in the dark, carried all the willow branches to Wei Mo's courtyard, one trip after another.

The next day, Wei Mo was woken up by his mother.

"Wei Mo, did you ask Tian Boguang to put the willow branches by the yard? He's waiting for you at the door. Get up quickly."

Wei Mo had no choice but to follow his mother's instructions. He got up in a daze, dressed, and left 10 kilograms of rice next to the kitchen before going out, since female educated youths would be coming to help today.

"Wei Mo, check if you have enough willow branches. If not, I'll get some more."

Tian Boguang, who was standing at the door, was getting a little anxious, since he still needed to find Wei Mo to get a fishing rod to go fishing.

Wei Mo looked around the yard and thought, "Wow, what speed!" Without saying a word, he went straight back to the kitchen, grabbed three broken fishing rods, and handed them to Tian Boguang.

"Did your family stay up all night to make this?"

Upon hearing Wei Mo's question, Tian Boguang nodded awkwardly, then grabbed his fishing rod and ran off to fish.

Back in the house, they waited for the female educated youth to come for breakfast. Wei's mother had promised three meals a day, so the family didn't eat first. Wei Mo looked at the kitchen and bought some oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar from the mall without telling his mother. It didn't matter whether he told her or not.

The female educated youth didn't arrive, but the Shan brothers, Shan Zhenhai and Shan Chao, came to find Wei Mo. Upon seeing Shan Chao, Wei Mo remembered that he still owed him a favor. After exchanging a few pleasantries, he handed over the remaining two fishing rods to Shan Chao.

The two brothers, Shan Zhenhai and Shan Zhenjiang, were excited. Their father had said in the morning that he would help them, and they didn't expect to get the fishing rod so quickly. Wei Mo was good at handling things and had won Shan Chao's favor. Before they could say more than a few words, his son, who was eager to go fishing, pulled him away.

The four beauties finally appeared in the sight of the Wei family, much to their anticipation.

Apart from the money inside, which I had never seen before, I had met everyone else.

"My sisters are here. Come in and have a meal. Don't be shy, make yourselves at home."

The newly arrived female educated youths were still a bit reserved, but Wang Zhenhua warmly pushed them onto the kang (a heated brick bed). Seeing the white rice porridge and vegetables with dipping sauce, they stopped pretending and started eating heartily. It had been so long since they had eaten rice; it was so delicious!

Wei Mo was eating the sweet potato that his mother had prepared for him separately. Li Xiuxiu, who was standing next to him, looked on with longing. Wei Mo had no choice but to break off a piece and hand it to her, and then he was met with three pairs of eyes.

"This is so delicious, it's really sweet."

Wei Mo had no choice but to distribute the sweet potatoes to the four female educated youths. Seeing that the four female educated youths had no manners at all and even licked their fingers after finishing, Wei Mo spoke to Wang Zhenhua.

"Mom, let's have sweet potatoes for lunch!"

Wang Zhenhua nodded. Since his son said so, the sweet potato problem should be solved.

However, Wei's mother still went to check the kitchen and sure enough, she saw sweet potatoes. Not only that, but she also found extra oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar, which she quickly hid in a corner.

"Alright, since everyone wants to eat, then we'll have sweet potatoes for lunch." Wei's mother said to the people on the kang (a heated brick bed) with renewed confidence.

Wei Mo curled his lip, looking at the excited female educated youth, and said, "Look at you, so naive and unsophisticated."
