The brigade leader's wife was a little angry after hearing this. She said with a hint of irritation.
"That's not my fault. I gave birth to her, and you're the one who planted the seed. If your seed is bad, who can you blame?"
Li Dazhuang had only uttered a complaint, but upon hearing his wife's words, he immediately dared not reply and awkwardly scratched his head to the side.
Wei Mo jogged out of Li Dazhuang's house, even though his family didn't care about work points.
However, no one else could do such a good thing as earning work points while having fun, and Wei Mo was quite happy about it.
Moreover, he could show off to his mom and grandma when he got home. Thinking of this, Wei Mo ran excitedly toward the wheat field.
In winter, sparrows have few places to forage and mostly gather in the wheat field.
Not long after Wei Mo left, another flock of sparrows arrived, and they were all left behind.
After Li Xiuxiu, Qian Manman, Wei Xiaomin, and Wei Xiaohui caught them all, they set up a new trap.
Now, Wei Xiaomin's cage is completely full. In fact, it's almost overflowing.
However, Wei Xiaomin looked at the sparrows in the cage with a delighted expression. They were not her favorite pets, but her food reserves.
The more she looked, the happier she became, and tears welled up in her eyes.
Wei Mo jogged back soon after, but slowed down when he reached the vicinity of the wheat field.
Because he had just discovered that a flock of sparrows had landed in the threshing ground, they were clearly heading for the grain in the trap.
He deliberately slowed down and watched from a distance. He saw Li Xiuxiu and the others pull the rope, triggering the trap and catching the sparrows in the net and basket.
Wei Mo also hurriedly ran over, and this time the harvest was quite rich, with about fifty or sixty more.
Wei Xiaomin's cage was already crammed full, so Li Xiuxiu and Qian Manman took matters into their own hands, smashing the sparrows to the ground, killing them instantly.
A few sparrows had already piled up on the ground, so Wei Mo simply took out a bag from his spatial storage, ran to the group of people, and then slowly began to speak.
"Aunt Xiuxiu, Aunt Manman, put these sparrows in a bag so they won't be hard to carry back later."
Upon hearing Wei Mo's words, the group happily stuffed all the sparrows on the ground into sacks.
After the joy of the harvest, they began to set traps, waiting for the birds to fall into them.
Although the waiting time can be boring, the process of catching a bird that has fallen into the trap is particularly enjoyable.
Even Qian Manman and Li Xiuxiu had a great time. By the afternoon, Wei Mo and the other four had caught at least four or five hundred sparrows.
Sparrows congregate here in winter. Although there are still quite a few sparrows in the village, their numbers are estimated to have decreased by half.
Looking at the half-full sack of sparrows, Wei Mo waved to the crowd, because he could clearly feel that there were fewer and fewer sparrows, and that was all the sparrows in the village.
Unless it's a sparrow from another village flying over, but sparrows rarely migrate long distances; they usually live in one village.
Now, there are fewer sparrows in the village, and other sparrows may migrate here, so the harvest is getting smaller and smaller each time. Wei Mo simply spoke up to everyone.
"Aunt Xiuxiu, Aunt Manman, let's pack our things and go back to deal with them. These sparrows will be enough for us to eat for a long time."
Wei Xiaomin and Wei Xiaohui were somewhat reluctant to leave, but they both nodded, while Li Xiuxiu and Qian Manman began to pack up their belongings.
Qian Manman carried three baskets, while Wei Xiaomin and Wei Xiaohui rolled up the fishing net, and Wei Mo tied the remaining sticks together with the rope.
Li Xiuxiu carried half a bag of sparrows on her back, and the five of them walked excitedly toward Wei Mo's house.
Dinner was naturally dominated by birds, but Qian Manman didn't stew the sparrows in the dish because they also had pheasants at home.
When stewing, use pheasant; small sparrows are especially fragrant when cooked.
In the evening, after finishing dinner, Qian Manman buried more than 30 sparrows in the stove pit. After everyone had finished eating, Qian Manman pulled the sparrows out of the pit, cleaned them, put them on a plate, and served them on the table.
The group, who had already eaten their fill, picked up the roasted sparrows and ate them with relish.
The next morning, Wei Mo lay lazily in Li Xiuxiu's bed, unwilling to get up. Li Xiuxiu gave her little bottom a couple of hard slaps and scolded her:
"Get up, Xiao Weimo, your butt's already in the sun."
Wei Mo reluctantly crawled out of bed and put on his cotton-padded coat.
After Li Xiuxiu folded the bedding for the two of them, she followed behind Xiao Weimo, and the two of them washed their faces with hot water from the stove in the kitchen.
Then, he happily ate breakfast with his family. After breakfast, Wei Mo felt there was nothing else to do, so he took Li Xiuxiu for a stroll around the village.
As they were wandering along the village road, a pickup truck slowly drove into the village. Wei Mo looked puzzled and followed closely behind the pickup truck.
Li Xiuxiu assumed that Wei Mo had never seen a car before, which was why he liked cars, and didn't think much of it. Wei Mo, on the other hand, wanted to know what had happened.
After all, life in the village is so boring that many people will come to watch anything that happens, so there's a lot of gossip.
The car slowly drove up to the brigade headquarters, and two men in Zhongshan suits got out. Looking at the locked brigade headquarters, the two men frowned.
Then, they saw Li Xiuxiu and Wei Mo following closely behind. After hesitating for a moment, the two quickly stepped forward to ask.
"Hello, comrade, do you know where the brigade leader and the old village chief live?"
After the two finished speaking, they noticed Wei Mo and Li Xiuxiu looking them over. Hesitating for a moment, fearing they might be wrongly accused, they quickly offered an explanation:
"We're here to ask about some things; we're from the city."
Li Xiuxiu looked at Wei Mo beside her to see what he would say, because the old village chief she was looking for was from her own family.
After hesitating for a moment, Wei Mo spoke to the two men.
"Uncles, is there anything I can help you with? I know where the village chief and the brigade leader live. Could you tell me? Otherwise, I don't dare to take you there."
Hearing the words of the little boy in front of them, the two men were slightly taken aback, but after thinking for a moment, they revealed the truth to Wei Mo:
"We're here to investigate the identity of Li Taiping, one of the educated youth who came to the village last year. We hope you can show us the way."
