Hearing the old dean's words, Lin Wanqiu and Shen Tingzhou were both extremely excited. "Really? Old dean, are you telling the truth?" Lin Wanqiu asked hurriedly, her voice trembling slightly.
"Of course it's true!" the old director said with a smile. "This is all thanks to Madam Shen's meticulous care and Old Mrs. Shen's own willpower. Many stroke patients suffer from worsening conditions and eventually lose their ability to take care of themselves because of a lack of effective care and rehabilitation training. Madam Shen deserves a lot of credit for Old Mrs. Shen's excellent recovery!"
Lin Wanqiu was filled with excitement and relief. All the hard work and effort she had put in these past few days had paid off at this moment. She looked at Old Madam Shen, her eyes brimming with joy: "Mother, did you hear that? The old director said you'll recover soon and be able to stand up and walk again!"
Tears of emotion welled up in Old Mrs. Shen's eyes. She nodded vigorously, her lips moving as she said, "Good...good..."
The old director gave a few more instructions, telling Grandma Shen to continue her rehabilitation training and pay attention to her diet and nutrition, before leaving with the nurse.
The ward returned to silence. Sunlight streamed through the window, bathing the three of them in warmth and peace. Shen Tingzhou grasped Lin Wanqiu's hand, his eyes filled with gratitude: "Wanqiu, thank you for everything. If it weren't for you, Mother wouldn't have recovered so quickly."
Lin Wanqiu shook her head, a gentle smile on her face: "Tingzhou, what are you saying? We are husband and wife, and Mother is my mother-in-law. It is my duty to take care of her. Besides, Mother's recovery is the result of her own efforts."
Looking at the loving couple before her, Old Mrs. Shen felt a deep sense of relief. She knew she had been foolish before, always finding fault with Lin Wanqiu over trivial matters, even conspiring with outsiders to bully her. Now, Lin Wanqiu had forgiven her and was taking such good care of her. She secretly resolved that once she recovered and was discharged from the hospital, she would make it up to Lin Wanqiu and never treat her the way she had before.
In the days that followed, Grandma Shen's condition improved rapidly. Her language function returned to normal, and she was able to communicate clearly with others; she also regained significant sensation in her right limbs and was able to move them slightly. Although she could not walk normally yet, she was able to sit up on her own and even slowly get out of bed and move around a few steps with Lin Wanqiu's help.
Shen Nian'an and Shen Nianxi often visited Grandma Shen, bringing her delicious food, telling her stories, and performing for her. Every time Shen Nian'an came, he would examine Grandma Shen and adjust her nutritional diet according to her recovery. Shen Nianxi would dance a ballet for Grandma Shen, and watching her granddaughter's graceful dance, Grandma Shen's face was always filled with a happy smile.
That day, Shen Nian'an and Shen Nianxi visited Grandma Shen again. Shen Nian'an brought a blood pressure monitor and measured Grandma Shen's blood pressure. "Grandma, your blood pressure is very normal, you're recovering very well." He looked at Grandma Shen and said with a smile, "At your current rate of recovery, you should be able to be discharged from the hospital and go home in about a month."
"Really? Nian'an?" Grandma Shen's eyes were full of anticipation. She had been in the hospital for almost a month and had long missed her yard and vegetable garden.
“Of course it’s true, Grandma.” Shen Nian’an nodded. “However, you can’t let your guard down after you get home. You still need to continue your rehabilitation training and eat according to the diet I’ve prepared. Only in this way can you make a full recovery.”
"Okay...okay...Grandma will listen to you..." Grandma Shen said quickly.
Shen Nianxi walked to Grandma Shen's side, took her left hand, and said with a smile, "Grandma, when you come home, I'll dance the ballet I just learned for you and sing your favorite song."
"Okay...okay...Grandma will wait..." Grandma Shen looked at Shen Nianxi with eyes full of love. She used to favor boys over girls and didn't care much about Shen Nianxi, but now, looking at this lively, lovely, and talented granddaughter, she felt a mix of guilt and affection.
Looking at the warm and harmonious scene before her, Lin Wanqiu felt a surge of happiness and contentment. She knew that this family had undergone a significant test because of Grandma Shen's illness, but it was precisely this test that had brought the family members closer together. The previous conflicts and estrangements had gradually dissipated under the warmth of family affection, replaced by mutual understanding, tolerance, and care.
Looking at the happy smile on Lin Wanqiu's face, Shen Tingzhou was filled with emotion. He knew that Lin Wanqiu was not only the pillar of this family, but also its glue. It was her kindness and resilience that resolved the conflicts between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, allowing the children to grow up healthy and happy, and filling the family with warmth and happiness. He secretly resolved to cherish Lin Wanqiu even more in the future, to take good care of this family, and to never let Lin Wanqiu suffer any more grievances.
As the days went by, Old Mrs. Shen's health improved more and more. She was able to get out of bed and walk on her own, although she still needed help, but it was much better than before. Her spirits also improved, and her face was always full of smiles, no longer showing the meanness and shrewishness of the past.
That day, the old director gave Grandma Shen a final check-up and smiled with satisfaction: "Grandma Shen, your body has basically recovered and you can be discharged to recuperate at home. After you get home, remember to continue your rehabilitation training, pay attention to a light and balanced diet, avoid emotional excitement, and come back for regular check-ups."
"Thank you, former director... thank you all..." Old Mrs. Shen said quickly, her eyes filled with gratitude. The former director and nurses had taken very good care of her these past few days, and she was deeply grateful.
Lin Wanqiu and Shen Tingzhou were overjoyed upon hearing the news. They quickly packed their belongings, helped Old Madam Shen, and completed the discharge procedures.
