Chapter 27 Zhao Jianjun, seeing Wanqiu's beauty, came to her door to force her into marriage.

As she spoke, she picked up a kitchen knife from the kitchen doorway—she had left it there when she was harvesting the vegetables, intending to use it for chopping, but now it came in handy. The determination and resolve in her eyes as she gripped the knife stunned Zhao Jianjun and his two cronies.

"What...what do you want to do?" Zhao Jianjun took a step back, somewhat frightened. He hadn't expected Lin Wanqiu to dare to take out a kitchen knife; this woman was simply insane!

Lin Wanqiu gripped the kitchen knife and took a step forward: "I don't want to do anything, I just want to protect myself and my son. If you dare to take another step forward, I won't be polite!" She knew that Zhao Jianjun was just a paper tiger; as long as you were tougher than him, he would be afraid.

Sure enough, Zhao Jianjun and his two cronies dared not move forward. Zhao Jianjun's face was ashen, and he pointed at Lin Wanqiu, cursing, "Lin Wanqiu, you just wait! I won't let this go! Don't you have cured meat at home? I want to see where you got this cured meat from! If I find out you're involved in speculation and profiteering, let's see how you get out of this mess!"

After saying that, he slunk away with his two cronies. Before leaving, he didn't forget to glare fiercely at Lin Wanqiu, his eyes full of threat.

Lin Wanqiu watched their retreating figures until they disappeared at the end of the alley before putting down the kitchen knife. Her palms were sweaty; she had been gambling, betting that Zhao Jianjun wouldn't dare to really fight her to the death. Fortunately, she had won her gamble.

"Mom, are you alright?" Nian'an peeked out from behind her, her little face full of worry.

Lin Wanqiu knelt down, hugged her son, and softened her voice: "Mommy's okay, An'an, don't be afraid." She knew that Zhao Jianjun wouldn't let it go so easily. He had suffered a loss this time, and he would definitely use even more insidious means to retaliate against her next time. She had to think of a way as soon as possible and prepare to deal with it.

Just then, footsteps sounded again outside the courtyard gate. This time, the footsteps were very light, unlike the loud footsteps of Wang Guilan and Zhao Jianjun. Lin Wanqiu's heart skipped a beat. She walked to the courtyard gate and looked out through the crack—she saw Shen Tingzhou's figure flash by.

"Mom, what's wrong?" Nian'an came out at some point and tugged at Lin Wanqiu's sleeve.

Lin Wanqiu snapped out of her daze, squatted down and hugged her son, forcing a smile: "It's okay, Mom just ran into an acquaintance. Let's go home, Mom will make you vegetable and egg noodles."
