Chapter 17 Discovering a Seed Bank in Space and Planning a Planting Program

She returned to the warehouse and, sure enough, found several bags of organic fertilizer in a corner. The bags were labeled "Purely natural and pollution-free, suitable for all kinds of crops." She carried the fertilizer back to the land, spread it evenly on the ground according to the instructions, and then watered it with a watering can. Only after doing all this did she breathe a sigh of relief. When she exited the space, it was just dawn.

The next morning, as soon as Lin Wanqiu got up, she couldn't wait to check her space. The sight before her eyes stunned her—the rice seeds she had just planted yesterday had already sprouted tender green shoots, and the wheat had also grown tiny seedlings, a lush green expanse full of vitality.

"This growth rate is too fast!" Lin Wanqiu squatted down and carefully touched the rice sprouts, feeling both surprised and delighted. At this rate, she would be able to harvest the first batch of grain soon, and then she would be able to completely get rid of the days of relying on Old Lady Shen for grain, and even help her neighbors.

But then she had another problem—how could she explain the origin of the food and vegetables grown in her space? She couldn't very well say that she had a magical space, could she? If someone found out, she would at best be seen as a monster, and at worst, she might be killed.

She sat on the edge of the field, tugging at blades of grass, pondering a solution. Suddenly, she remembered her last trip to the town market, where she saw someone selling vegetables they had grown themselves, claiming they were cultivated on the back hill. The back hill was deserted; if she pretended to cultivate the land there and "transplanted" the crops from her spatial dimension there, wouldn't that make sense?

This idea sparked Lin Wanqiu's interest. She quickly took out her notebook and added another item to the planting plan: Go to the back mountain late at night to clear the land and create a "secret vegetable garden" as a transit station for space crops.

Having made up her mind, Lin Wanqiu began preparing the tools for going to the back mountain. She took out a sharp sickle and a hoe from her spatial storage, and found a worn-out bamboo basket, pretending it was an old farm tool she had found at home. She also specially picked a few vegetables that she had planted in her spatial storage, wrapped them in an old cloth, and planned to "plant" them on the back mountain first to test the waters.

That night, after Chen Nian'an had fallen into a deep sleep, Lin Wanqiu quietly left home with her tools. The night was like a black cloth, shrouding the entire village completely, with only a few barks occasionally breaking the silence. She walked along the path towards the back mountain, feeling both nervous and excited—this was the first time she had proactively planned for her and An'an's future, and she took each step with exceptional determination.

The weeds on the back hill were taller than a person, and the branches were crisscrossed. Lin Wanqiu carefully cut a path with a sickle. She chose a spot near the stream, where the soil was moist and suitable for growing vegetables. Just as she was about to pick up her hoe to clear the land, she suddenly heard rustling footsteps not far away, as if someone was moving in the grass.

Lin Wanqiu held her breath instantly and gripped the sickle tightly. Who would come to the back mountain in the middle of the night? Was it a thief, or...? She dared not think any further and quietly hid behind a large tree, looking in the direction of the sound by the faint moonlight.

A tall, dark figure darted through the grass, moving with the agility of a cheetah. The figure seemed to be searching for something, occasionally crouching down to examine the ground, holding something resembling a compass in its hand. Lin Wanqiu's heart leaped into her throat—who was this figure? What was he doing in the back mountain? Would he discover her secret?

Just then, the shadowy figure seemed to sense something and suddenly looked in her direction. Lin Wanqiu quickly lowered her head, her heart pounding as if it would jump out of her throat. After a while, she cautiously looked up, only to find that the shadowy figure had disappeared, leaving only the rustling sound of the wind blowing through the grass.

"Could I have seen wrong?" Lin Wanqiu frowned, her mind filled with doubt. She dared not delay any longer, quickly digging a few holes with a hoe, "planting" the vegetables she had brought, and watering them with some stream water, pretending she had just planted them herself. Having done all this, she picked up her tools and hurried home.

Back home, Lin Wanqiu was still shaken. Who was that shadowy figure? Was he still watching the back mountain? Lying in bed, she tossed and turned, unable to sleep, secretly resolving: next time she went to the back mountain, she would be much more careful, and it would be best to find out the identity of that shadowy figure to avoid causing trouble for herself and An'an.

At the same time, she became even more determined to cultivate the space crops as soon as possible—only by becoming strong enough could she gain a foothold in this era and protect herself and An'an. She touched the jade pendant on her chest and silently prayed: Space, oh space, you have to live up to my expectations, let's make our lives prosperous together!
