Seeing her like this, Jiang Ci smiled and said, "Such exquisite pastries must taste delicious. One piece is enough for Miaomiao and Yangyang. You can eat the rest yourself."
Jiang Ci patted the little girl's head. "Xiao Huai, your dad brought these for you. They belong to you."
Zhou Huai was stunned for a long time. She wanted to say that Aunt Jiang was wrong. Everything in the house belonged to her mother. She never had anything that belonged to her.
Not to mention these pastries that look absolutely delicious.
But for some reason, she couldn't refute Jiang Ci.
What you eat is yours, but what she holds in her hands is hers.
Zhou Huai looked down at Zhou Yang and Zhou Miao. After a while, she pushed the oil paper package in her hand in front of Jiang Ci again, "Aunt Jiang, you and Uncle Zhou should eat too!"
“Mine can be shared with Aunt Jiang and Uncle Zhou.”
Jiang Ci paused for a moment, then chuckled and said, "Alright, then I'll take two."
This young girl has been thoroughly manipulated by Wang Zhaodi; she's become hesitant and timid in everything she does, appearing unable to stand up for herself.
But she's a good person at heart; she'll be good to whoever is good to her.
Jiang Ci stuffed a piece of pastry into Zhou Mingli's hand, and then, as Zhou Huai opened his mouth to talk to Miao Miao, he inadvertently put the other piece into her mouth.
It has a pleasant, refreshing taste.
Zhou Huai's mouth began to chew uncontrollably, and she looked at Jiang Ci in confusion.
Jiang Ci had a faint smile on her lips, looking languid and giving off an indescribable feeling.
"Xiao Huai, there are some things I will only say to you once. Whether you can remember them or not depends on how you think about them."
"Xiao Huai, do you think Wang Zhaodi treats you well?"
Zhou Huai was stunned. Her father had bought her some pastries, and his face was full of smiles when he gave them to her. She wanted to eat them, but her mother was secretly glaring at her from behind.
Her mother raised her, so it's her duty to take care of her mother and to give back to her.
But she couldn't bring herself to say that Wang Zhaodi was good to her.
He couldn't utter a single word.
“You’re not young anymore, Xiao Huai. If you want to see someone clearly, don’t just listen to what she says; what she does is the most important thing.”
Jiang Ci asked softly again, "Xiao Huai, is your mother good to you?"
Zhou Huai's departing figure was always fleeting.
“You’re meddling in her affairs too much.” Zhou Mingli broke the pastry in his hand and held it to her mouth.
"I haven't had Daoxiangcun pastries in ages." Jiang Ci mumbled as she took a bite, glancing at him sideways. "When I helped you before, you never accused me of meddling."
Zhou Mingli: "..."
That was a direct jab at him.
Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli were classmates for four years. One was a top figure who was popular on campus and a dashing person who was always followed by a group of friends wherever he went. The other was a lazy and irresponsible person who did nothing but work outside of class.
Zhou Mingli looked down on Jiang Ci. He believed that Jiang Ci was only good-looking because of her family background, and that the reason she was so arrogant and sought after was because her parents provided her with a constant stream of resources.
He earns his own money, unlike Jiangci.
Jiang Ci also looked down on Zhou Mingli, who was always arrogant. He came and went in a hurry and never paid attention to anyone. He was so arrogant that he could not even fart.
Zhou Mingli and Jiang Ci didn't interact much at school, but they got to know each other outside of school.
Although Zhou Mingli had been in the workforce for a long time and was very shrewd, he was still tricked when he worked part-time at a company during the summer vacation. His boss had left for another company and taken many big clients with him, causing the sales volume to plummet this month. The big boss took his anger out on him, a small part-time employee, and made it clear that if he couldn't boost the sales volume for the month, he would have to pay compensation.
With the contract still pending, Zhou Mingli hadn't even earned 500,000 yuan yet, but he already had sales revenue of several million yuan.
He had no choice but to solicit clients, going to all sorts of places to drink until his stomach was churning, yet he still couldn't stop going to banquets to beg for favors.
A wealthy woman took a liking to him and said with a smile that if he slept with her for one night, she would sign a contract.
With so many people watching at the banquet, if he agreed, he would only lose a few potential clients. Besides, Zhou Mingli had no intention of agreeing at all.
"Look at his cheap suit, he can't even fix his hair, how did such a lowly person manage to get in here?"
"He doesn't even know the etiquette at the dinner table. If you didn't know better, you'd think he was a VIP."
Zhou Mingli barging into that banquet was like mud on a bright pearl—an eyesore, superfluous, despicable, and something to be removed.
The gazes fixed on him felt like thorns in Zhou Mingli's back. Everyone here seemed to want to break his spine, watching him fawn, smile, and wag his tail at them like a lapdog.
Zhou Mingli's self-esteem was worthless in front of these people.
He forced himself not to speak, when suddenly his shoulders felt heavy.
"Oh, isn't this Zhou Mingli?" A lazy female voice said casually.
"Miss Jiang!"
"Miss Jiang! What brings you here!"
"Miss Jiang, please have a seat! You look just as radiant as ever today!"
One by one, those who looked down on him stood up and fawned over the radiant woman beside Zhou Mingli.
Zhou Mingli turned his head, saw who it was, and his breath hitched.
Jiang Ci, the most dazzling presence at school.
In such settings, she is the center of attention and receives compliments as a top-tier wealthy woman.
Today she wore a black halter dress, a uniquely designed pearl necklace around her neck (whose name he couldn't recall), and a black coat casually draped over her shoulders. As she turned her head to the side, the pearl earrings on her ears swayed gently.
