The brigade leader was very proud and pointed at Xia Lei, "This kid came up with the idea for us. As soon as he arrived, he learned that our production team's annual grain output was increasing and felt that our threshing ground was definitely not enough. He boldly came to me and asked me to expand the threshing ground."
At first, the brigade leader didn't think much of it, but grain production did increase significantly. Seeing that the threshing ground was not enough, the brigade leader gathered Xia Lei and the production team's carpenter, accountant, and bricklayer to start thinking of ways to expand the threshing ground.
Zhou Gou glanced at Xia Lei in surprise, "Then you were quite prescient."
Xia Lei said very politely, "It's not a big deal."
The three men talked about what they had seen and heard in the production team, and Zhou Gou also talked about some of his experiences in the army.
As the conversation continued, Zhou Gou glanced at the brigade leader and lowered his voice, "Uncle, I remember there's an old man locked up in the cowshed here...."
Upon hearing this, Xia Lei and the captain fell silent for a moment.
The captain stood up, glanced outside, and closed the door. "Why did you suddenly ask about this?"
"There is an old man inside, he is still there."
Zhou Gou straightened up subconsciously. "Do you know his last name?"
The captain narrowed his eyes. "It seems like... his surname is Cheng? What's wrong?"
Zhou Gou's heart skipped a beat, but he smiled and said, "It's nothing, I just heard a little something."
"As you know, I served in the army in Beijing, where news travels much faster than here."
The captain perked up. "What news?"
Xia Lei didn't speak, but his ears were perked up.
