Chapter 129: Little Bastard...

I took a shower and changed into dry clothes.

Jiang Ci sat on a small stool next to the table, coldly glaring at Zhou Mingli.

His clothes were still wet and clung to his body, outlining his physical contours.

Outside the open door of the main house, the rain continued to pour down, and gusts of wind blew in, which should have been refreshing but felt rather cold to Zhou Mingli.

He had already prepared his words while Jiang Ci was taking a shower, and now that there were only the two of them in the room, Zhou Mingli asked directly, "Do you know Liu Ke?"

While asking the questions, Zhou Mingli stared intently at Jiang Ci's face.

Upon hearing this name, Jiang Ci's expression visibly turned cold.

Zhou Mingli's eyes darkened; it was indeed because of her.

“She worked as a secretary in the secretariat for two months.” Zhou Mingli did not stop talking because of Jiang Ci’s ugly expression. “You said today that I brought a woman back to the villa. I’ve thought about it. Before you filed for divorce, only one person went there.”

Jiang Ci didn't speak, so Zhou Mingli continued, "Back then you said you were going abroad. Before you left, I showed you a document, which I later put in the study... and didn't take it with you."

Jiang Ci had just returned from her business trip not long ago, and the two had only spent two days together when Jiang Ci was about to go abroad to participate in an exhibition. Zhou Mingli didn't show anything on the surface, but that evening he took a document, went up to the third floor, knocked on the door, and humbly asked Jiang Ci for advice.

Another parting was imminent, and he didn't know when they would meet again. Coupled with his unspoken emotions, things got a little out of control between him and Jiang Ci that night.

They not only did it several times in the study, but they also didn't sleep at all after returning to the bedroom.

Jiang Ci used up the last box of condoms in her bedroom that night.

That document was left forgotten in the study.

Zhou Mingli rubbed his temples and said, "I was going to take that document from your study with me, but I couldn't find it when I was about to leave, so I went home. Besides the secretary-general, Liu Ke was with me."

“The Secretary-General and Liu Ke did enter the villa with me, but they were both on the first floor… Even I have to ask your permission before I can enter the third floor where you live. How could I let a secretary go upstairs?”

“Jiang Ci, if Liu Ke deliberately barged into the third floor when I wasn’t paying attention and accidentally touched your things or left something behind, that is indeed my fault. I should have eliminated that possibility at the very least.” Zhou Mingli looked at her and lowered his voice. “But I have never liked anyone else, and I would never bring anyone to our home to stay overnight.”

Jiang Ci remained expressionless and listened quietly to Zhou Mingli's words.

After a long pause, he finally asked, "Do you know who Liu Ke is?"

Zhou Mingli: "She said she's your roommate."

"I've never lived in a school dormitory, so where would I get roommates?" Jiang Ci sneered coldly. "She kept a necklace in a box next to the bathtub on the third floor."

Jiang Ci's jewelry has a fixed purchase channel and is designed by world-class designers. Each piece is a unique and one-of-a-kind item. Jiang Ci recognized that necklace at a glance.

Zhou Mingli remained silent.

A gust of wind carrying the scent of rain blew onto him, making Zhou Mingli feel chilled to the bone.

He lowered his head, his voice hoarse, "It's my fault."

Even if it was unintentional, Zhou Mingli was still the one who brought Liu Ke into their home.

Zhou Mingli looked at his trembling hands, closed his eyes, and after a long while, finally spoke again, "Is there anything else?"

His voice was extremely hoarse.

"Don't you know?" Jiang Ci looked at him. "Back then, Liu Ke took my bracelet without permission, put it on her own wrist, and asked me how much the bracelet cost."

Zhou Mingli suddenly looked up.

Jiang Ci immediately saw the shock in his eyes.

Jiang Ci couldn't manage a smile; her tone was unfriendly. "You don't know about the conflict between her and me? You missed that class?"

Zhou Mingli knew absolutely nothing about it!

Jiang Ci and Liu Ke's affair happened during their freshman year. At that time, Zhou Mingli and Jiang Ci had no interaction whatsoever!

Zhou Mingli skipped a lot of classes during his freshman year.

Zhou Mingli skipped his elective courses whenever possible during his freshman year, busy with part-time jobs and major courses. He only heard about Jiang Ci's feud with someone and the fact that she had accidentally crushed 500,000 yuan worth of jewelry.

As for who the other protagonist is, if Jiang Ci doesn't tell him today, Zhou Mingli will never take the initiative to find out.

Who is that person and what is his relationship with him?

Zhou Mingli's face turned ashen.

No wonder, no wonder Jiang Ci insisted on divorcing him.

Jiang Ci thought he was getting involved with a woman with whom she had a past feud. How could Jiang Ci allow her husband to be with a woman who took things from her without asking?

Seeing Zhou Mingli's reaction, Jiang Ci finally realized that Liu Ke had done it on purpose.

She suppressed her anger and said, "Before I found that necklace, I went to your company one night to look for you."

Zhou Mingli: "?"

Zhou Mingli's expression darkened further. "When?"

Jiang Ci mentioned a date.

Zhou Mingli suddenly stood up and paced back and forth, his face terribly gloomy, with veins bulging on his forehead, throbbing repeatedly as if the rope binding a ferocious beast was being constantly struggled and pulled.

He paced back and forth several times, his throat bobbing, and said breathlessly, "That night, the manager of the business development department closed a big deal and called me. I went over to discuss the cooperation; I wasn't even at the company!"

He didn't even know that Jiang Ci had been to the company that night!

Jiang Ci has free access to his company and even has exclusive access to the elevator. She can go to Zhou Mingli's office without disturbing the employees who are working overtime.

Only his secretarial staff outside his office could possibly know that Jiang Ci had come to the company.

Now that things have come to this, Zhou Mingli has no reason to lie to her anymore, if what Zhou Mingli said is true.

So Liu Ke was deceiving both sides. On one hand, she orchestrated a story of deep affection between herself and Zhou Mingli, deliberately letting Jiang Ci overhear those conversations, and on the other hand, she found an opportunity to go to their home, planting the seeds of suspicion.

Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli are both quite proud people. They rarely see each other, and the number of times they meet each year can be counted on one hand. Even if they have doubts or are angry, they will not have time to deal with these things because they cannot see each other and their free time is filled with other work.

This tactic is often used by intermediaries because the client and the intermediary do not meet in person. All communication between them is relayed by the intermediary, who then does some things and simply repackages the wording. As long as the other party does not meet, the intermediary does not have to worry about being exposed.

Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli were completely manipulated due to poor communication, which eventually led to their divorce.

Jiang Ci really wanted to go back in time to find Liu Ke and slap her twice. She wanted to make sure Liu Ke couldn't do whatever she wanted, and she wanted to make Liu Ke homeless and never be able to get back up again!

After enduring it for a while, Jiang Ci slammed her hand on the table and muttered, "You little bastard..."

Zhou Mingli's malice was even greater than Jiang Ci's. He took a deep breath and exhaled, suppressing the anger that couldn't reach her world.

Ultimately, Zhou Mingli understood that the root of all this was his lack of communication with Jiang Ci.
