Chapter 13 The plan has been changed again

After taking the medicine, Zhou Mingli lay there and slept for almost two hours before waking up. By then, no one was home.

He was still covered in injuries, but fortunately he didn't have a fever, so his wounds should be healing well.

He should have continued lying down, but after being married to Jiang Ci for so many years, Zhou Mingli had more or less picked up some of her germaphobia. At this moment, he couldn't bear to lie on the bed all dirty, so he simply got out of bed and took off his clothes.

Fortunately, it was summer, and when Zhou Mingli poured some water into the basin and used a wet towel to wipe his body, he didn't feel that the water was too cold.

After changing into new clothes, Zhou Mingli felt a little more comfortable. Unable to sleep, he paced back and forth between the two dilapidated rooms, silently calculating what he needed to buy.

The most important thing is to repaint the place, do a thorough cleaning of the whole house, and throw away everything you don't need.

They also need to set up a proper table for meals. Their house is in a remote area, surrounded by weeds and wild trees. They don't even have a mosquito net, and at night the mosquitoes can bite you until you're covered in welts.

As Zhou Mingli thought about it, his expression changed, and he clutched his stomach as he headed for the outhouse.

For some unknown reason, Zhou Mingli stopped abruptly in his tracks, and his tanned face turned ashen.

The Zhou family's outhouse was so rudimentary that it couldn't be more accurate to call it an outhouse than a makeshift shed made of thatch and a dug pit.

Zhou Mingli gritted his teeth and finished the job, ignoring the pain in his body, and ran out of there. He forced himself not to vomit, but silently changed his plan.

The most important thing is not to paint the walls, but to renovate the outhouse first!

Zhou Mingli paused for a while before going out to look at other places.

Shanding Brigade is located next to several mountains. It's summer, and the mountains are lush and green, looking like a place with lots of wild game.

Zhou Mingli touched his injuries and thought of a small lake not far from his home. The water was quite deep and there should be many fish in it.

There should be eels and loaches in the shallows nearby at night.

Jiang Ci is too thin now. She has two children and needs to eat meat to make up for it.

Zhou Mingli figured that once his injuries had healed enough, he could weave a cage and go fishing in the water.

Once they catch the fish, Jiang Ci's diet will be able to improve somewhat.

After finishing his dream, Zhou Mingli turned and went to the kitchen to check on the remaining food in the house.

He fell silent after reading it.

Six eggs, some green vegetables and beans, and not much cornmeal; there wasn't even any cornbread left.

These things will only last for three meals at most before the family runs out of food, but there's still more than a month until payday!

Zhou Mingli recalled that in those days, only by working and earning work points could one receive more rice and flour when paid. He then understood why Jiang Ci, despite her injuries, still had to work.

They really can't rest. The family is already so poor they can't even afford to eat. If Jiang Ci doesn't earn work points, they might starve to death.

Zhou Mingli took a deep breath and silently closed the lid of the flour jar.

Zhou Mingli's plans have changed twice again.

The most important thing is to fill your stomach!

He rubbed his forehead, locked the door, and decided to go check on how Jiang Cigan was doing.

The two children are not at home; Jiang Ci must have taken them away.

He arrived at the field based on his memory and witnessed the confrontation between Jiang Ci, Xia Lei, and Liu Yinyin.

Jiangci can easily handle such minor matters.

Their family didn't have a good reputation in Shanding Brigade, and if he were to directly confront them, it would create a huge grudge. If Jiang Ci came herself, it would actually change the people's impression of her, which would be beneficial for future relationships.

Zhou Mingli mentally calculated the situation, and when he heard that Jiang Ci only wanted one piece of candy, he couldn't help but curl the corners of his lips. He had guessed correctly.

But when Boss Zhou suddenly appeared, Zhou Mingli's expression turned rather unpleasant.

The boss is still holding a grudge from last night.

"Boss Zhou, when will you become my boss?"

Zhou Mingli stood outside the crowd, his voice muffled by his injuries.

Everyone looked at Zhou Mingli in surprise; he didn't look too well at the moment.

Look, look, his neck, arms, and legs are all wrapped in bandages!

"Oh dear, Zhou Lao Er really got a lesson for beating his wife!"

"Tsk tsk tsk, look at all these injuries. Those people must have gone all out. Jiang Ci really wasn't lying."

"Aren't these injuries enough proof?"

Seeing Zhou Mingli looking like he'd been brutally beaten, many women actually believed the lies Jiang Ci had told them before.

Zhou Mingli walked towards the center of the crowd. When Jiang Ci saw him, she swallowed the words she wanted to say.

Although Zhou Mingli was still limping, he was tall, half a head taller than Zhou Laoda. Now, with his eyes darkening and looking down at Zhou Laoda, his imposing aura was enough to make Zhou Laoda tremble.

Boss Zhou remembered Zhou Mingli's warning from the previous night.

Things are different now. Last night, Zhou Mingli was able to threaten him because Zhou Mingli had his son under control. Now his son is no longer in Zhou Mingli's hands, so he is not afraid of Zhou Mingli!

Thinking this, Boss Zhou was about to lash out, but the captain struck first, shouting at Boss Zhou with a dark face, "What business is it of yours! Did you even go to work today! How come you have so much free time to come here and meddle!"

Old Zhou retorted, "I'm meddling in my brother's family affairs, is that considered meddling?"

Zhou Mingli said calmly to the brigade leader, "You know, our two families separated a long time ago. Each family is minding its own business, and he has no say in my family's affairs."

The captain glared at Boss Zhou, "Did you hear that?!"

Old Master Zhou was so angry he was about to blow his beard and glare, but Zhou Mingli ignored him.

This week, the eldest brother is a troublemaker. Zhou Mingli remembers Liu Yinyin bringing up the child's injuries.

He glanced at Zhou Yang.

The little guy was still angry, his tiger eyes glaring at Xia Xi. He also had injuries on his face and body, but Zhou Yang was tanned and didn't look as bad as the pampered Xia Xi.

"You want us to pay your medical expenses? Fine." Zhou Mingli casually slapped Zhou Yang's head.

Then, she quietly moved her hand away.

This little brat has short, stiff hair that's prickly to the touch.

His gaze fell on Xia Xi, his voice neither too loud nor too soft, carrying a convincing composure, "If I throw him out, and you can catch your son, then we won't hold your husband wrong for throwing Yangyang earlier."

Zhou Mingli heard everything Jiang Ci said. The biggest consequence of this farce wasn't who stole whose candy or who slandered whom, but that Xia Lei almost threw Zhou Yang out.

If Jiang Ci hadn't caught the child, the consequences would be far more serious than they are now; it wouldn't be something that can be resolved with a war of words.

Xia Lei's face darkened as he made the arrest.

Jiang Ci glanced at Zhou Mingli.

He cursed inwardly, "Damn man."

I've been secretly watching this spectacle for so long.
