Chapter 16 She ate my flesh!

As Zhou Mingli turned to get something, he saw two children standing at the kitchen door.

The two children were drooling, their eyes shining as they stared at the bubbling pot of steam, swallowing their saliva incessantly.

You don't even need to explicitly say you want to eat it!

Seeing their greedy expressions, Zhou Mingli took a clean bowl, picked out two pieces of meat, and said, "One piece for each of you, no fighting over it."

The two children were still a little afraid of their father; his words were like golden rules. They nodded vigorously, their eyes already red and shiny. The aroma of spices brought the meat to a peak, and the wispy mist of meat aroma was almost unbearable to inhale.

Zhou Yang couldn't wait to catch it. He carried the bowl outside, squatted down around the stool, grabbed the larger piece first, and took a rather fierce bite with a howl.

Zhou Miao couldn't resist either, and grabbed it, biting off a large chunk.

With just one bite, the two children's eyes lit up instantly.

“It’s delicious!”

Zhou Yang: "Dog Egg said the meat was delicious, he wasn't lying to us."

Zhou Miao mumbled, "I wish we could eat meat every day from now on."

For some reason, Zhou Miao suddenly remembered the candy her mother had given her, and struggled to look at the half-eaten piece of meat.

She quickly put the meat back in the bowl and said in a childish voice, "I can't finish it all. I have to save some for Mom. Mom hasn't eaten yet."

Zhou Yang was reluctant to let the child eat so much. The child didn't know when he was full, and only after eating a tiny bit of lean meat left did he eagerly put it in, saying, "Okay!"

Zhou Mingli heard the two children whispering outside. He smiled, stuck the cornbread he made to the side of the pot, put the lid on, and prepared to simmer it for a while longer so that they could eat when Jiang Ci came back.

As Zhou Mingli came out of the kitchen, he passed by the two children and said, "There's still some in the meat pot."

Upon hearing this, Zhou Miao stretched out her small hand!

He grabbed the remaining half of his flesh and stuffed it into his mouth.

Zhou Yang was both anxious and angry when he saw this. "I'm going to tell on you when Mom comes back! You didn't leave any meat for me!"

Zhou Miao was stunned for a moment, but the meat seemed to have its own consciousness, and with a slurp, it went into Zhou Miao's stomach.

It's all gone. There's nothing left.

Zhou Miao began to feel uneasy.

Zhou Yang pouted and could only pitifully eat his small piece.

After the two children had been making a ruckus for a while, Zhou Mingli tidied up the room again. He sat down, sweat beading on his forehead and his face pale. He looked at his injuries and saw that apart from some pain, there was no bleeding.

He breathed a sigh of relief; thank goodness.

"Mom! Miaomiao ate all the meat and left none for me!"

Sitting on the bed, Zhou Mingli heard Zhou Yang complaining.

Jiangci is back.

Zhou Mingli came out of the house and, sure enough, saw Jiang Ci.

Jiang Ci, who had never done any physical labor before, was quite exhausted. As soon as she got home, she washed her hands at the sink, and Zhou Miao brought over a chipped bowl filled with water.

Zhou Miao lowered her head, feeling uneasy and nervous. She hadn't let Yangyang eat meat, and her mother would blame her.

Zhou Mingli brought her a stool to sit on.

Jiang Ci didn't stand on ceremony, sat down, and looked at Zhou Miao with a smile, "Is the meat delicious?"

Zhou Miao blushed, but had to admit, "It's delicious."

"Mom, the meat is delicious!"

Jiang Ci took the water she brought and took a sip. Zhou Yang then crawled over and relentlessly complained, "Mom, she didn't leave any meat for me."

That was all his flesh. In the past, his mother would always leave the food that Miaomiao ate for him, but this time Miaomiao ate it all.

He was unhappy, so he had to complain.

Jiang Ci looked at Zhou Mingli, who could only say, "It was just cooked. These two children were so hungry, so I gave each of them a piece of meat."

Zhou Miao whispered, "I didn't eat Yangyang's meat. I wanted to save it for Mom, but Dad said it wasn't necessary."

Jiang Ci finally understood, and looked at Zhou Yang with a deep look, "Your dad said one piece for each person, and you stole Miaomiao's meat?"

“Mom used to give Miaomiao’s to me, and Miaomiao’s to me,” Zhou Yang said matter-of-factly.

Jiang Ci said to Zhou Yang very seriously, "Now and in the future, it won't work anymore. What's yours is yours, and what's Miaomiao's is Miaomiao's."

When Zhou Yang heard this, the sky seemed to have fallen.

Little did they know, Jiang Ci had wanted to say these words to Zhou Yang last night.

After marrying Zhou Lao Er, "Jiang Ci" developed a deep hatred for Xia Lei and Liu Yinyin, and constantly tried to outdo the couple.

Jiang Ci exemplified the extreme preference for sons over daughters. In this rural area where resources were scarce and food and other necessities were in short supply, Jiang Ci always prioritized his son.

Xia Lei and his wife are good to their son, and "Jiang Ci" is also good to her son. Moreover, she originally loved her son Zhou Yang more. Her attitude towards Zhou Miao was that she was already grateful if she could get a bite to eat. What more could a little girl like her want?

Jiang Ci would also tell her son, "What's Miaomiao's is yours. If you want anything else, just take what's Miaomiao's. Don't steal anything else."

"When Miaomiao grows up, she'll still have to help you out. You're a boy, and she's her brother. If she doesn't help you, who will?"

“If Miaomiao tries to take your things, just tell your mother, and she’ll beat her up.”

Although Zhou Yang was young, he understood what Jiang Ci had said.

He understood that although Miaomiao was his sister, she had to give way to him. He could eat the good food and use the useful things, but she could use things that he didn't like.

Today, Mom gave Miao Miao two candies, but not Zhou Yang. Zhou Yang got angry and tried to snatch Miao Miao's candies while playing under the shade of a tree.

But Zhou Miao wouldn't give it to him. Xia Xi saw the candy in her hand. Xia Xi had eaten candy before and knew it was a good thing, so she tried to snatch it.

Zhou Miao was no match for the healthy and strong Xia Xi. Xia Xi successfully snatched a piece of candy and quickly stuffed it into her mouth.

Upon seeing this, Zhou Yang immediately felt the fire flare up.

Why should I?!

He won't even give Miaomiao her candy! What right do you, a kid from another family, have to take her candy?!

Miao Miao can tolerate it, but Yang Yang can't!

Yangyang let out a howl and charged forward.

We won that battle!

Because his mother also gave him a piece of candy.

Zhou Yang, who was easily appeased, was very happy.

But now...

Zhou Yang, who was easily appeased, felt like the sky had fallen.

He burst into tears.

"I don't want it! Miaomiao's is mine! Mother, you said it! She ate my flesh! She ate my flesh! Waaaaah!!"

Zhou Yang started throwing a tantrum.

This trick works best on his mother; he can yell a couple of times and then she'll come and coax him.

Seeing Zhou Yang cry, Zhou Miao almost reflexively squatted down, lowered her head, and buried her face in her hands, crying as well. "Mom, I'll give all my things to Yangyang from now on, please don't hit Miaomiao..."
