Chapter 17 Our Dilemma

Jiang Ci looked at the two children silently, then looked up and exchanged a glance with Zhou Mingli.

Even without children, what is there to misunderstand in this scene?

Zhou Mingli said rather coldly, "If a child isn't corrected from a young age, he'll just be trash in the future."

Jiang Ci nodded in deep agreement.

It's certainly good for the two children to support each other, but Zhou Yang only knows how to suck Zhou Miao's blood now. If we don't take care of him, who knows how much trouble he'll cause in the future.

The bodies of Zhou Mingli and Jiang Ci are now their parents. Since they can't get rid of them, they have no choice but to take control of them.

First, he needs to understand that he can no longer benefit from Zhou Miao.

Jiang Ci ignored Zhou Yang's crying and pulled up Zhou Miao, who was squatting on the ground, crying and trembling.

The pats that were supposed to land on her body turned into a gentle grip on her arm.

Zhou Miao couldn't help but flinch, looking at Jiang Ci with tears in her eyes.

Jiang Ci was stunned at first glance.

How many times had this child been beaten by the original owner? She was so afraid of Zhou Yang that she looked at her as if she were a vicious villain, just because Zhou Yang touched her while she was crying.

Jiang Ci pulled her up, hugged her gently, and couldn't help but sigh, "I'll never hit you again, don't be afraid."

Tears still clung to Zhou Miao's clear black and white eyes. Her mother's warm embrace, carrying a faint scent of earth and wheat, acted as a calming balm. Zhou Miao's small, somewhat overwhelmed mind was filled with a lot of emotions called grievances. She hugged Jiang Ci with her little hands, first sobbing softly, and then bursting into loud sobs.

She cried because she felt sad and wronged.

Jiang Ci was very distressed. She had no children and didn't know how to comfort her, so she just patted her back and glanced at Zhou Mingli out of the corner of her eye.

He looked like he was smiling.

Jiang Ci's sorrow immediately dissipated.

That damn ex-husband is still laughing at her!

Since transmigrating into the book, her ex-husband has been laughing at her!

Zhou Miao was hiccuping and crying, while Zhou Yang stopped crying first. He didn't understand why his mother didn't come to comfort him. When he looked up, he saw his mother holding Miao Miao and comforting her.

Zhou Yang jumped up and tried to pull Zhou Miao out of his mother's arms. He was very flustered, as if something was leaving him, making him involuntarily try to snatch it away.

Before he even arrived at the destination, Zhou Yang was apprehended.

Zhou Mingli pressed down on his head.

"Didn't you listen to what your mother said? You and Zhou Miao are siblings, and you will get the same things from now on. If you take your sister's things again, your mother and I will teach you a lesson."

Zhou Mingli, as a father, still had a lot of influence. Zhou Yang pouted and whimpered, but he didn't dare to pull Zhou Miao out of his mother's arms again.

Once Zhou Miao stopped crying, the Zhou family finally started their meal.

Once the fragrant meat was served, the two children stopped fussing and stared longingly at the stack of bowls of meat in Zhou Mingli's hands.

Jiang Ci was also staring at the bowl of meat.

Don't even mention the child being greedy; right now, her whole being—her nerves, her brain, her stomach—is screaming for meat.

This is quite strange, as Jiang Ci never used to eat pork; she didn't even care about her appetite.

But when Jiang Ci saw meat in the 1970s, she felt the same way she did when she saw her first car, and her whole body screamed that she wanted to own it.

"The cornbread is a bit hot, be careful," Zhou Mingli said, turning his head to Jiang Ci, who was holding the cornbread and whose gaze was still on the bowl of meat in his hand.

Jiang Ci withdrew her gaze and nodded rather reservedly, "I know."

The Zhou family didn't have a dining table, only a stone stool. Zhou Mingli washed it several times with water and made do with it as a dining table for the time being.

Four small stools surrounded a stone block, and a bowl of meat was placed on the stone block. Eight eyes were fixed on the meat.

The braised pork belly was topped with green beans, giving it a red and green color that looked incredibly delicious.

As soon as Jiang Ci mentioned eating, the two children stopped talking and began to devour meat and cornbread with gusto.

Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli were also hungry, so they didn't say much and started eating in silence!

Zhou Miao and Zhou Yang hadn't eaten much oily food before. Seeing that they were about 70% full, Zhou Mingli ordered them not to eat anymore.

The two children, oblivious to hunger or fullness, obediently put down their bowls and chopsticks, not for any other reason than that they were both afraid of Zhou Mingli.

Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli ate their fill. After putting down their chopsticks, Jiang Ci let out a comfortable burp for some reason.

After she finished hitting him, she realized something was wrong and looked at Zhou Mingli.

But then she saw Zhou Mingli looking at her, a slight smile on his lips.

Jiang Ci: "..."

She thought angrily to herself: That damned ex-husband, making fun of me again!

Jiang Ci forced herself not to show any weakness, as if the hiccup from before had never happened, and said very calmly, "Your cooking is quite good."

Zhou Mingli's lips curled up again, but he quickly suppressed it and said reservedly, "It's fine as long as you like it."

The two children were full and didn't want to move. Jiang Ci saw that the two children were drowsy, so she told them to wash their faces and go back to their room to sleep.

Only she and Zhou Mingli remained in the courtyard. Jiang Ci heard Zhou Mingli say in a low voice, "It's been a long time since we've eaten together."

Jiang Ci was momentarily dazed, glanced at him sideways, and thought for a moment.

When was the last time I had dinner with Zhou Mingli?

Her mother ordered her and Zhou Mingli to go home, but they postponed it for more than a month before finally returning to the Jiang family home together to have a meal with the elderly couple.

After dinner, Jiang's mother talked to Jiang Ci for a while.

They asked her if she had a conflict with Zhou Mingli.

Jiang Ci said, "What conflict did I have with him? I'm very busy."
