Chapter 176 Do you want to leave here?

Jiang Ci was awakened by a fragrance. She lay in bed for a while before she came to her senses and, smelling the fragrance, remembered that Zhou Mingli had returned.

She slowly got out of bed, tidied her clothes, and just as she reached the door, she glanced habitually in the direction of her clock, then her gaze froze.

There was also a steel object next to the clock.

Jiang Ci walked over and then saw it clearly.

That was the watch that Zhou Gou asked Zhou Huai to deliver to her.

Jiang Ci glanced outside and saw that the clothesline was full of her clothes, including a set she had changed out of today.

The watch was originally in my pants pocket, but now it's been moved next to the clock; it's obvious who put it there.

Jiang Ci took the watch and walked towards the kitchen.

Zhou Mingli was indeed busy inside.

He cooked a fish, which is currently stewing in the pot. The aroma that Jiang Ci smelled earlier was coming from the pot.

As soon as she entered the kitchen, Zhou Mingli, who was busy inside, seemed to have eyes in the back of his head and quickly turned to look at her. "Why didn't you sleep a little longer?"

"You got up as soon as you smelled it. Are you cooking so early today?"

Jiang Ci knew his craftsmanship wasn't up to par, but he could still do things like adding firewood to the fire.

She was still holding the watch in her hand, and when she sat down on the small wooden stool, she casually placed it on the edge of the stove.

Zhou Mingli paused slightly when he saw the watch, then glanced at her again.

Jiang Ci seemed to be waiting for him to ask a question, and tapped her finger again on the spot where the watch was next to the stove.

Zhou Mingli thought for a long time before slowly asking, "Did Dr. Tao give it to you?"

"I found it in your pocket when I was doing your laundry today, so I took it out and put it in the main room."

Jiang Ci raised an eyebrow. "Didn't you expect to buy it myself?"

"By cutting costs and resisting unknown risks, JetCi, you never waste money on anything other than our daily expenses."

Zhou Mingli trusted Jiang Ci a lot in this respect. Like him, she would keep her spending within a certain limit when her savings were insufficient to cope with unknown dangers.

...Buying things for Jiangci doesn't count.

As soon as Zhou Mingli spoke, his tense emotions immediately relaxed, his eyebrows and eyes relaxed, he opened the pot lid, picked out a piece of the freshest, boneless fish, and when it wasn't so hot, he put it in front of Jiang Ci so that she could taste it.

"I'm just wondering where this watch came from."

Jiang Ci ate the delicious fish and said, "Zhou Gou asked Zhou Huai to give it to me."

Now it was Zhou Mingli's turn to raise his eyebrows. He stared at Jiang Ci, somewhat puzzled.

Jiang Ci put a thin piece of firewood into the pot. "You have no idea what an unbelievable thing happened the day after you left."

Her face was full of desire to share, and Zhou Mingli gestured for her not to add any more fuel, while listening to her talk about what had happened during the few days he was away.

Jiang Ci's words only made things worse. After she started rambling on, Zhou Mingli finally understood what he had missed.

“When Zhou Huai brought the watch over, I guessed that it might have been originally bought by Zhou Gou as a gift for Wang Zhaodi. I didn’t wear it, so I asked Zhou Gou to let me know and exchange it for another watch.”

Zhou Mingli finally learned the origin of the watch. He nodded and said, "I'll go and exchange it later. The Plum Blossom is similar to the Longines. I'll see if I can get you a Longines instead."

There might not be any watch replacements on the black market, but Zhou Mingli could go to a watch shop.

Jiang Ci: "Sure."

"Today at the hospital, I saw that Zhao Cuihua's family had already started their performance. Zhao Cuihua's husband has already found out, and there will probably be more excitement to come. I just don't know if we'll be able to see it."

Jiang Ci was eager to see the Zhao family have some fun; she could talk about this spectacle for days.

Jiang Ci was full of complaints, which made Zhou Mingli want to laugh. "Let's make a few more trips to town sometime. Maybe we'll stumble upon the scene one day."

Jiang Ci gave Zhou Mingli a thumbs up in response.

The misunderstanding that almost arose from a watch was subtly and easily resolved. Zhou Mingli had tasted the benefits of honesty, and even his expression became a bit lighter.

Zhou Mingli started cooking early today, thinking that Jiang Ci was quite tired. He wanted Jiang Ci to eat first before delivering food to Mr. Cheng. Zhou Mingli had just set the table when the two children ran back before Jiang Ci could even call them.

Several other people were following behind them.

"Mom! Someone's looking for you!" Zhou Yang and Zhou Miao ran back, carrying small buckets, looking dirty, and their kaleidoscopes were covered in dust.

Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli's blood pressure soared when they saw the two mischievous kids covered in mud.

Looking further back, Zhou Gou arrived with Cheng Huasheng and Li Ailian, a family of three.

"Second brother! Sister-in-law! Oh, you're eating?"

This time, Zhou Gou didn't barge in directly. He waited until the two children finished calling for help before slowly leading his men inside.

If he were to barge in with Mr. Cheng and his family and happen to run into this loving couple kissing, he would be utterly ashamed.

"Brother Er Gou, what's wrong with you...?"

Zhou Mingli had not yet met Cheng Huasheng and Li Ailian's family. Although he could guess who the family of three was from what Jiang Ci had just told him, he still hesitated slightly in his words.

Jiang Ci, who was standing nearby, said, "These are Mr. Cheng Huasheng and Ms. Li Ailian, whom I told you about before."

Cheng Huasheng walked over and said, "Hello, I am Cheng Huasheng. You must be Comrade Zhou Mingli?"

Zhou Mingli extended his hand to shake his, "I am Zhou Mingli."

After making the gesture, Cheng Huasheng paused for a moment, while Zhou Mingli said frankly, "My wife taught me that city people shake hands when they meet for the first time."
