Zhou Mingli didn't hear these words, otherwise he would have been so happy that the corners of his mouth would have turned up.
When Li Ailian and her husband discussed this matter, they naturally planned to take their entire family with them. Asking this question first was also to see Jiang Ci's attitude.
Since she said that, Li Ailian didn't hold back much when she spoke her next words.
“Actually, we have some connections in our family that can find you and your husband jobs in Beijing. We can also transfer your household registration and grain rations to Beijing. That way, you won’t be able to go back to your hometown, but will go to Beijing.”
Most educated youth returning to the city went back to their own city; there was no reason for them to go to other places. Cheng Huasheng's nephews and nieces did have some connections, but they could only get them to Beijing and change their household registration to Beijing so that Zhou Mingli could go back to Jiang Ci's hometown with her. The arrangements required for this were somewhat different from those for going to Beijing.
Li Ailian was worried that Jiang Ci would miss her parents and family and would rather go home than go to the capital, which is why she didn't tell them to go to the capital from the beginning.
Jiang Ci laughed, "Beijing is much better than my home."
“I should thank you for giving us the opportunity to go to Beijing. Although there’s nothing wrong with Shanding Brigade, you know there’s a fundamental difference between being a worker and being a farmer,” Jiang Ci said earnestly.
At that time, workers had a slightly higher status than others, receiving not only wages but also a grain ration and other subsidies.
Moreover, being a farmer is much, much more tiring than being a worker.
Seeing Jiang Ci's open and honest nature, Li Ailian's goodwill towards her increased even further.
They both knew that Cheng Yehan was doing so well because Jiang Ci sent him three meals a day and subtly controlled Liu San. Otherwise, Cheng Yehan would probably have been worn down by Liu San and wouldn't have survived for more than a few days.
The fact that Jiang Ci took care of Cheng Yehan when he was sick was enough for them to spare no effort in helping the family get their household registration in the city.
When faced with a person of high moral character, the word "gratitude" alone is a debt that can never be repaid in a lifetime.
Even if Jiang Ci deliberately helped Cheng Yehan after guessing his identity, it was still a real benefit that made Cheng Yehan's life in the cowshed much better.
Jiang Ci could accept this favor openly and honestly. If Jiang Ci pretended to refuse on the surface but secretly wanted to gain something, Li Ailian would think she was hypocritical and pretentious.
“Once things calm down, Hua Sheng will come back again,” Li Ailian said softly. “It should be around mid-October.”
Jiang Ci understood what Li Ailian was saying.
They will be able to leave the Shanding Brigade and head to Beijing in mid-October.
Jiang Ci smiled slightly and nodded to indicate that she understood.
When Jiang Ci and Li Ailian came out of the room, the three old men in the kitchen seemed to have finished talking as well.
Zhou Mingli added four more dishes and some flatbread. Although there weren't many dishes, the quantity was enough for several people to eat together.
Jiang Ci still needed to deliver food to Mr. Cheng. Since it was getting dark early, Zhou Mingli was worried that she would go alone and wanted to go with her. So, Cheng Huasheng and the others left first.
Zhou Mingli and Jiang Ci saw them off, and then let the two children take four fruit candies to the Yu family to play with Dazhu and Erzhu.
As Cheng Huasheng's family and Zhou Gou walked towards the car, Cheng Ke ate the White Rabbit milk candy that Jiang Ci had given her and mumbled, "Uncle Zhou's cooking is really delicious."
Cheng Huasheng and Li Ailian nodded in deep agreement, while Zhou Gou looked smug. "Am I right? His cooking skills are no worse than those of the chefs in state-run restaurants!"
Cheng Huasheng: "Now I have a chance to introduce myself."
He had already tasted Zhou Mingli's cooking; all five dishes were excellent. Didn't you see how Jiang Ci and the two children ate them so casually? This clearly showed that this was Zhou Mingli's usual level of skill.
Cheng Huasheng was pondering where to put Zhou Mingli when his gaze suddenly fell on the things Zhou Mingli had prepared for him, which the guard was carrying.
Lots of sausages!
This would be a good gift.
...
Beijing City.
A man wearing a white shirt and dark blue trousers rode his bicycle to the entrance of a large courtyard.
This large courtyard housed many people, including a mother and her son living in one of the rooms.
The man parked his bicycle at the door, took a lunchbox from the basket, and then walked to the door of the room where a mother and child lived.
The door was open, and the inside was a mess; it didn't look like a mother living with a child at all.
The man seemed to be used to it; he carried the lunchbox inside and placed it on the table.
"Sister-in-law, I've brought you and Xixi your lunch."
A woman emerged from the inner room. She wore a red floral polyester dress, and her exposed arms and neck were as white as snow. Her face was pure and charming, making her particularly eye-catching.
"Xiangxue, thank you so much for all you've done these past few days." The woman looked at Xia Xiangxue with gratitude.
Who is this woman?
It was Liu Yinyin who, after divorcing Xia Lei, brought her child to Beijing to stay with Xia Lei's relatives.
Liu Yinyin can't cook. Besides writing articles to earn some money, she can't do laundry or housework at all. The Xia family can't just ignore her, so they have to send people to deliver food to her.
Xia Xiangxue's gaze lingered on Liu Yinyin's face as he said, "Sister-in-law, it would be so much better if you lived with Mom and Dad in the compound. It would be a much better environment than this, and your family could take good care of you."
