A heavily guarded prison in Beijing, now known as the Fence.
A woman wearing a camel coat over a beige polyester long dress stood in the hall, waiting anxiously and constantly peering inside.
I don't know how long we waited before a few people finally came out.
Xia Lei, with his head shaved and wearing the uniform underneath, was led out by the prison guards.
The moment Liu Yinyin saw Xia Lei, her eyes reddened, and tears streamed down her face.
Xia Lei, who had been locked up for nearly two months, looked much more weathered, with stubble growing on his chin and his eyes losing much of their former vigor.
His eyes lit up a little when he saw Liu Yinyin.
"Visiting time is five minutes, Comrade Liu, please be mindful of the time."
The prison guard who brought Liu Yinyin over reminded her.
Liu Yinyin nodded quickly, "I understand, I understand! Thank you for your help!"
After everyone stepped back, Liu Yinyin and Xia Lei stood facing each other silently through a pane of glass.
"Are you doing well in Beijing? Has anyone been bullying you and your daughter?" Xia Lei looked deeply at Liu Yinyin, his voice gentle.
Liu Yinyin bit her lip and couldn't help but cry again, feeling wronged.
"As soon as I arrived at your house, your sisters-in-law assumed I had a lot of good stuff. They were always eyeing my luggage and even ransacked my room when I wasn't there."
"I had no choice but to move out. The old man arranged for me to live in a tenement, where every night some ill-intentioned people would knock on the door..."
Liu Yinyin immediately launched into a long rant, telling Xia Lei all about her experiences in Beijing during this period.
But Xia Lei's face darkened at a visible speed.
He looked at Liu Yinyin with pity, and felt a little guilty for the arrangements he had made in such a hurry.
Liu Yinyin once told him that she was pampered and spoiled when she was in her own family, and had never suffered hardship or fatigue. When they got married, he promised Liu Yinyin that she didn't need to worry about anything and that she only needed to be a little woman.
But... he broke his promise.
Xia Lei took a deep breath and lowered his voice, "Are you and your son alright?"
"No...it's nothing." Liu Yinyin shook her head. "Your nephew Xia Xiangxue brought me the food and helped with the housework."
Xia Lei's expression softened upon hearing this.
He shook hands, and then, as if thinking of something, said, "It's not safe to live in a tenement. Go to a place and find a Mr. Guo, and give him the things."
Liu Yinyin stared at Xia Lei in shock, glancing nervously around.
The prison guards were far away, and their voices were not loud, so only they could hear each other. Liu Yinyin stared intently at Xia Lei, listening to him continue.
“I saved Mr. Guo before, and he might still remember a little bit of my kindness. You can make two requests to him.”
"First, we'll get you a better place to live and find someone to take care of you and your son."
Second, find a way to get me out of here as soon as possible.
Liu Yinyin nodded while wiping away her tears, carefully memorizing Xia Lei's words.
She felt like she hadn't even exchanged a few words with Xia Lei when the prison guards arrived and told her that visiting hours were over.
"Brother Lei! I will definitely save you!"
"Take care of yourselves! And our son too!"
The two shouted again through the glass. Xia Lei looked back every few steps as he watched Liu Yinyin leave. He pursed his lips tightly, his hatred for Zhou Mingli and Jiang Ci growing stronger.
If it weren't for the tricks and traps of these two people, how could he have ended up in such a state!
...
TRAIN STATION.
The relocation, which felt like moving house, truly made Jiang Ci realize how tiring it is to actually do things yourself.
From Shanding Brigade to Zhongmo Town, and then to Linyun City Station, they hurriedly grabbed seats and rushed to put their luggage away. From Linyun City Station to the provincial capital, the two bicycles clattered and rattled, carrying all sorts of bags, until they arrived at the train station again.
They drove for less than 200 kilometers from dawn till dusk.
Even the two children were so tired that they fell asleep on their luggage as soon as they arrived at the train station, and they couldn't even be woken up by the dried meat they like to eat.
Fortunately, Zhou Gou was a soldier. He used the fast track to buy train tickets to Beijing for Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli's family as well. They didn't have to stay overnight in the provincial capital and could take a train that stopped at a nearby station directly to Beijing.
After finally getting on the train, Zhou Mingli told her to take the three children and find seats first, while the two of them would put the rest of their things away.
Jiang Ci knew she didn't have enough strength, so she didn't push herself. Instead, she led the children to find their location.
Just found it. Jiang Ci looked at the ticket carefully and confirmed that it was indeed their location.
Looking down again, a family of five was sitting in the front and back seats around a small support platform: a couple and their three children, two girls and a boy.
The couple casually ate sunflower seeds while watching the two girls take care of the little boy.
The little boy was clamoring for ham, canned food, and milk candy—he wanted whatever he could think of.
"You can't even look after your little brother properly! Be careful! Didn't you hear Xiao Cheng want water? Er Ya! Hurry up and get Xiao Cheng some water!"
"I'll go right now!"
A little girl quickly grabbed a water bottle to get some water.
She rubbed against Jiang Ci's arm as she walked over.
The train was crowded, and the mixed smells were particularly unpleasant. Jiang Ci glanced at the little girl who had run away, and then at the three children beside her.
Zhou Yang and Zhou Miao were terrified of getting lost, so they held each other's hands tightly. They also held onto Zhou Huai and Zhou Yang on either side of them, and the four of them were tied together with strips of cloth, for fear that the child would be swept away by the crowd.
Zhou Huai shielded her younger siblings with her hand, looked up at Jiang Ci, and whispered, "Aunt Jiang, are they sitting in our seats?"
"Um."
Jiang Ci nodded, glanced at Zhou Huai, smiled, and said, "Can you take good care of your younger siblings?"
Zhou Huai perked up and immediately nodded, "Yes!"
"Don't worry, Aunt Jiang! My dad taught me self-defense when I was at home!"
Her eyes sparkled, full of energy and anticipation.
After what happened with Wang Zhaodi, this girl has truly undergone a complete transformation.
Jiang Ci patted her shoulder and untied the cloth strips binding her wrists.
Immediately afterwards, Jiang Ci reached for a bundle she was carrying with her.
There weren't any lethal weapons inside, just a rolling pin about the thickness of a child's arm.
The family of five, who were eating openly at their seats, hadn't noticed the woman standing next to them, who had already pulled out a rolling pin.
Jiang Ci always adhered to the principle of "courtesy first, then force," so she spoke relatively gently at first.
"Comrades, this position is ours. May you get up?"
In a situation like a train, communicating with such soft words is completely ineffective.
Others will hear you speak in this tone.
snort.
One cotton ball!
Make it however you like!
