The seating area was quite messy because of the family of five. Zhou Gou and Zhou Mingli tidied it up after they arrived.
Zhou Mingli took two kettles, queued up again to get hot water, and then gave the water to Jiang Ci and Zhou Huai when he returned.
Zhou Huai was excitedly telling his father about Jiang Ci's heroic figure.
"Dad! You don't know, the moment that man moved, Aunt Jiang hit him with a rolling pin! The moment he reached out, Aunt Jiang slapped his hand! Those two bad guys were so badly beaten by Aunt Jiang that they didn't dare to fight back!"
Zhou Huai gestured excitedly, though with a hint of regret, "If Aunt Jiang gets tired of hitting her, I can go up and help her too!"
Jiang Ci looked at her thin arms and legs, raised her eyebrows and said, "You should eat a few more bites of food first."
Raising a girl who has been mistreated for four years to be healthy and plump is not so simple.
Zhou Huai tried to say, "My appetite has increased a lot."
A childish voice chimed in from the side, "Sister Xiaohuai can't eat as much as I can!"
The adults looked over and saw Zhou Yang, his little belly sticking out, proudly declaring, "I'm a glutton!"
Everyone was stunned for a moment, then couldn't help but burst out laughing.
The laughter was also mixed in with that of the silent passengers nearby.
This was the nickname Dazhu gave him, because he ate all the milk candies he had saved up in one go.
Zhou Yang was not ashamed of this at all, but rather proud of it.
Jiang Ci patted his head and said coldly, "If you get cavities, you won't get a single piece of candy."
Zhou Yang pouted, "Mom, I don't have any cavities."
Zhou Miao also said, "Brother Dazhu said it's okay for us kids to have cavities. Once they grow up, we'll get new teeth! So kids can eat candy as much as they want."
Zhou Mingli and Jiang Ci's lips twitched.
I really wish I could go back to Shanding Brigade and drag that little bastard Dazhu over to give him a good beating.
The train rattled slowly towards Beijing; the journey would probably take a day and a night by train.
The children were exhausted. The journey had been filled with bumpy rides and rushing to catch up with everyone. They didn't have much energy left to be curious, and after talking for a short while, they slumped over and fell asleep immediately.
Zhou Gou's train tickets occupied four seats facing each other. Zhou Yang and Zhou Miao were being held by Zhou Mingli and Jiang Ci respectively, and were fast asleep on their parents' laps.
Zhou Mingli glanced at Jiang Ci, who was also dozing off, and said in a low voice, "Sleep with me by your side."
Jiang Ci tilted her head towards him, her words muffled, "Are you sleepy?"
Zhou Mingli: "It's alright."
Jiang Ci chuckled without even opening her eyes, "After all that trouble getting to the train, you only got to rest for a while on the train. You've done all the physical work and you're still not tired? Do you really think you're made of iron?"
Zhou Mingli said, "This is like a move for us. We're carrying a lot of stuff and the journey is long, but it'll only be a one-time thing. I can handle it."
"Okay, I'll take a nap. Call me if you need anything."
Jiang Ci didn't force her. Rather than both of them being extremely tired and staying up all night, it was better for each of them to take turns sleeping for a while.
Zhou Mingli shifted his body slightly toward Jiang Ci to make her more comfortable. "Go to sleep."
Jiang Ci was really tired. Leaning on Zhou Mingli and holding the child, she quickly fell asleep.
Zhou Mingli looked up and exchanged a glance with Zhou Gou across from him.
Zhou Gou looked at the interaction between Zhou Mingli and his wife with envy and said, "You two have such a good relationship."
Zhou Mingli smiled.
It certainly looks that way.
But whether it's liking or disliking.
The woman who was already asleep still hadn't given him a definite answer.
Zhou Mingli glanced at Jiang Ci again and carefully lifted her head up a little more.
It's impossible to sleep well on a train. After a day and a night's journey, Jiang Ci woke up and let Zhou Mingli and Zhou Gou sleep. The three adults took care of the three children, feeding them and taking them to the toilet, and they managed to handle it quite well.
The family of five who were kicked out, on the other hand, had originally planned to try their luck in other carriages to see if they could find any empty seats and take them by force, thinking it would be much better than standing for a whole day and night.
They actually found empty seats and sat down. The young men didn't dare to compete with them and could only glare at them angrily.
The young men were about to go find the train conductor, but the man from the family of five showed no fear whatsoever. Despite the marks on his face from Jiang Ci's beating, he couldn't hide his domineering and arrogant attitude.
When they returned, the train attendants didn't look for them. Instead, they seemed to have been enlightened and came towards the man fiercely, each holding something as if they wanted to teach him a lesson.
The man had already been beaten by Jiang Ci once; how could he possibly endure it a second time?
Despite the lingering pain in his body, he quickly got off his seat and ran away before the group could actually make their move.
This family of five wandered from carriage to carriage, trying every possible way to find seats, even using their unsightly appearance to try and grab them, but they never succeeded.
The man was still unaware of what was going on, and muttered to himself, "What's going on? Why are all the people we've encountered this time so arrogant? We can't even get a seat."
What's going on?
That's because someone interfered.
Zhou Mingli would occasionally get up from his seat and walk around the carriage a couple of times. He saw this family taking other people's seats, so he went up to them and said something to them. The people whose seats were taken realized that this family was bullying the weak and fearing the strong, so they were no longer afraid of them and started to fight back.
Zhou Mingli watched as this family was driven away in a sorry state time and time again, his face indifferent, showing them no sympathy whatsoever.
...
In a courtyard house in Beijing in the morning.
After getting up, Cheng Huasheng stretched his body in the yard and saw his father watering the flowers.
Cheng Huasheng said, both amused and exasperated, "You've been at odds with this flower ever since you came back. No matter how much water a flower loves, it can't withstand you watering it like this."
Cheng Yehan glanced at his son, put down the watering can, and said, "You're bothering me just because I'm watering the flowers?"
"How could I dare to interfere with you?" Cheng Huasheng walked over and asked with a smile, "Dad, are you getting used to being back in Beijing?"
Cheng Yehan straightened up. "I'm already this old, it's the same wherever I am, there's nothing I'm not used to."
"To be honest, there are some things I'm not used to..."
Cheng Yehan glanced at the brightening sky and said, "At this time, Xiao Jiang has already brought me breakfast."
While he was in the cowshed, Jiang Ci delivered meals to him almost without fail, rain or shine, three times a day. She would arrive before dawn and leave as soon as she finished delivering the food.
Although they didn't have much time to talk, Cheng Yehan observed Jiang Ci in the small house every day.
Watch her talk to Liu San, watch her walk back and forth.
