"I haven't forgotten," Cheng Yehan said irritably, as he came out of the study and walked towards the main room.
"Is this a family visit or a permanent stay?" Cheng Yehan asked Jiang Ci as they walked.
Of all these people, Jiang Ci was the one he was most familiar with.
Jiang Ci replied naturally, "Thanks to Mr. Cheng for helping us transfer our grain rations and household registration to Beijing. We will be living in Beijing permanently from now on."
Cheng Yehan glanced at Cheng Huasheng, who was all smiles, and said, "Oh, so what kind of work are you here for?"
Cheng Huasheng then chimed in, saying, "Wen Yun's unit is short of kitchen helpers. There will be a unified recruitment this month. We can let Comrade Jiang's husband go and give it a try. If he gets the job, then they will have a formal job in Beijing."
Cheng Yehan finally understood the relationship between them. He nodded and said nothing more.
Upon arriving at the main room, Jiang Ci, Zhou Mingli, and Zhou Gou each brought their children to meet Cheng Yehan. Zhou Gou's comrades also greeted the old gentleman before they began preparing for dinner.
Li Ailian had prepared quite a lot of food; even with four more burly men, it would be enough for them to eat.
Cheng Huasheng had originally prepared some wine, but considering that they would be driving and needing to go to Zhou Mingli's new house to pack things up, drinking would cause them to miss things, so he simply didn't open the wine and everyone just had a sumptuous dinner.
At the dinner table, Cheng Yehan asked Jiang Ci and the others where they were staying. Li Ailian answered all their questions. After learning that they were staying at the house of his third grandson, Shaotian, Cheng Yehan estimated the distance, relaxed his brows, and said, "Your place is not far from here. If you have any trouble, just come here to find us."
Jiang Ci smiled and agreed.
After they finished eating, Cheng Yehan watched them get into the pickup truck again, and the car drove off towards the buildings two streets away.
The old man's face finally showed a smile.
It's good that he's here; it means he won't have to keep thinking about it and how he still owes a young girl a favor.
...
The house belonging to Cheng Yehan's third grandson, Cheng Shaotian, was considered a family building, and the people living there were generally of some status and position.
Now that it's cold, there's not much people talking downstairs. I just take a walk downstairs after I've eaten to digest.
Hearing the sound of a car approaching, several young children who were playing downstairs immediately gathered around.
Wow! What a huge vehicle!
"The car is here!"
The child's voice was quite loud, prompting people upstairs to open their windows to look.
Military vehicles. There are quite a few soldiers in these buildings nearby. Who are they?
Each side has its own speculation.
"Look at all those bags and packages in that car, could they be planning to move into our building?"
"The building is full, where are there any empty rooms to allocate? Besides, I haven't heard anyone from my workplace say that anyone has been allocated a room here."
The pickup truck was full of stuff, clearly indicating a move. The upstairs residents could see it clearly, but couldn't guess who had moved in.
It was only after seeing Cheng Huasheng and Li Ailian that the neighbors across from Cheng Shaotian's house, the downstairs residents, suddenly understood!
An elderly woman, a future neighbor of Jiang Ci's family, stopped watching the commotion and immediately went into the living room to tell her husband and son, "Oh my, I was right! Cheng Huasheng, the younger brother, is after his nephew's house!"
"Look at this! Shao Tian has only been abroad for a short time, and he's already showing up at our door with his entourage!"
The old lady's son was listening to the radio when he heard this and glanced outside. "Mom, don't talk nonsense. Cheng Huasheng isn't short of a place to live. Shaotian's house was allocated to him. Shaotian's uncle has no right to dispose of it."
"If you don't believe me, go look out the window. There are quite a few people in the car, including Shao Tian's uncle and aunt! With so much luggage in the car, they must be planning to stay here!" The old lady firmly believed that Cheng Huasheng had sent people to occupy Cheng Shao Tian's house.
While talking to her son, she didn't forget to glare fiercely at her daughter-in-law, who was trying to peek out the window. "What are you looking at! Get back to your work! How long have you been washing clothes? Why are you so good at dawdling!"
The daughter-in-law quickly looked away, "Mom, I'll finish washing the clothes right away."
The old lady craned her neck to look out the window again, and sure enough, she saw Cheng Huasheng and Li Ailian leading people into their building. She immediately became certain again, "I knew it! These people must be staying at Shaotian's house!"
The old man and his son finally stood up and went to look out the window.
The old man frowned. "Bringing outsiders to stay at his nephew's house, that's not a very proper thing for Hua Sheng to do."
"I wonder what their background is." The son noticed that the car they were driving was military-grade and that so many people were helping them, so he felt that the family who would be living here in the future was no ordinary family.
The old man nodded. "Let's see what kind of person he is first."
"Even if someone has connections, if they're shady, we can't let them stay here."
Jiang Ci's future neighbors are already preparing to label her and her family as "neither fish nor fowl".
Jiang Ci is unaware of this matter.
Zhou Gou's comrades helped Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli carry their luggage. The four strong men carried two bags in each hand, walking with great vigor and without any pressure, and carried all their belongings up in one go.
It saves time and effort.
Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli both breathed a sigh of relief.
With so much stuff, it must have been exhausting for just the two of them to carry it up and down the stairs.
Li Ailian helped open the door, gave the key to Jiang Ci, and explained the layout of the house to her.
