Zhou Mingli was the first to make fried rice with eggs, and the aroma quickly spread throughout the kitchen.
Everyone sniffed, and some who hadn't eaten breakfast started to rumble in their stomachs, staring at the bowl of fried rice and swallowing hard.
The amount of fried rice was not much. Chef Mo took a serving spoon, scooped some onto a plate, took a bite, and his expression of satisfaction deepened.
"You did a great job," Chef Mo praised. "Do you cook at home often?"
Zhou Mingli said modestly, "Occasionally."
Chef Mo nodded and said directly, "Okay, then when you leave later, go to the personnel department to register and report for duty at eight o'clock tomorrow morning."
Zhou Mingli was taken aback. Could he simply announce verbally that he could come?
Everyone looked at Zhou Mingli with barely suppressed envy.
There's no need to submit an application or get a leader's signature to be considered hired. Chef Mo just said he wanted Zhou Mingli, and HR immediately noted down Zhou Mingli's name. Zhou Mingli can report for duty tomorrow.
Sure enough, the HR personnel walked up to Zhou Mingli and said to him, "Our kitchen originally had two head chefs. However, the other head chef, besides Chef Mo, can no longer work due to some issues. The kitchen assistant was also dismissed for a major demerit. Therefore, the kitchen is short-staffed. You should report for duty tomorrow. In a little while, you and the other kitchen assistant will come with me to register."
Zhou Mingli nodded calmly, "Okay."
Zhou Mingli then walked over to Chef Mo and introduced himself, "Chef Mo, my name is Zhou Mingli, and I will be here on time tomorrow."
Chef Mo smiled and nodded, "Okay, go wait over there!"
Zhou Mingli took the position without any surprise. He walked away calmly under the gaze of everyone, his expression unchanged.
He left peacefully, but the others didn't fare so well.
Chef Mo continued his scathing attack on those who, despite their poor skills, tried to fill in the gaps and get the job. One of them, his face turning ashen, retorted, "You! You! You! My dad is the head of a certain department! How dare you talk to me like that!"
Chef Mo retorted, "I don't care what kind of section chief your dad is, you better put the knife down right now. Letting you come here for an interview is a waste of food!"
Someone even cried out, "Chef Mo, I may not know how now, but I can learn! Please give me a chance!"
Chef Mo sneered, "This is the kitchen of a municipal government agency! It's not your home kitchen! Nor is it a machine factory, textile factory, or pickled vegetable factory where you can get paid for your internship! I'm not your mentor! Why should I be responsible for teaching you when you're getting paid?"
The man was scolded by Chef Mo until his face turned red and his neck became thick. He stammered for a long time, and in the end, he could only wipe away his tears and leave in a sorry state.
As fewer and fewer people remained, Chef Mo's expression grew increasingly grim.
Apart from Zhou Mingli, there wasn't a single one who could satisfy him.
The potatoes are chopped terribly, and the tofu is even worse; I can't even shave the fried rice properly...
What a waste!
The HR person wiped away a bead of sweat and glanced at Chef Mo again.
Fortunately, Zhou Mingli was also in this interview, otherwise Chef Mo would probably be furious.
We just can't decide on the last person to help with cooking.
Finally, the head of the personnel department came over and talked to Chef Mo for a while. In the end, Chef Mo reluctantly chose someone who wasn't too bad from among all these people.
The head of the personnel department looked at that person.
Yes, a relative of a finance department employee.
good.
Let's take a look at Zhou Mingli.
Never seen it.
He looked at the person in charge of this matter.
The HR person immediately went over and whispered a few words in the section chief's ear, "That's Zhou Mingli, he was recommended by Secretary Cheng."
The section chief paused slightly, then nodded. "Okay, remember to guide them through all the procedures."
"I understand everything!"
Several of the remaining people were still dissatisfied. They rushed up to the head of the personnel department and angrily said, "Head of the department, my parents have already agreed with you! How could you let me be rejected?!"
"I spent five years as an educated youth sent to the countryside, and it wasn't easy for me to come back. You won't even give me a job as a kitchen helper!"
"My uncle has connections with your department, Section Chief, how could you do this!"
More and more people rushed up to the head of the personnel department.
These people all have some connection to this area, so of course they'll fight for any job opportunity, especially a lucrative one like a kitchen helper.
That's the kitchen.
They've seen officials starve to death, but they've never seen a cook starve to death!
Leftovers from the kitchen that can't be eaten are always taken away by the head chef and kitchen helpers, because this is food, one of the most important things in this era!
Many people who thought they were sure they could get the job rushed up to the section chief, demanding an explanation.
The section chief was also furious. He sneered, "Now that you've become educated youth, are there fewer educated youth returning from the countryside? So many people are returning to their hometowns. Doesn't the government have any worries about the employment of educated youth? These two jobs as kitchen helpers are being competed for by nearly twenty of you! The capable will rise, and the incapable will fall!"
"You want to be a kitchen helper? Can you cut potatoes? Can you slice tofu into strips? Can you cook large pot dishes? What kind of kitchen helper are you if you can't do anything?! This is the kitchen! Not a place for you to slack off!"
"If any of you are dissatisfied with today's interview, feel free to go find your relatives or family members! Have them come to me! I'd like to see who comes to me and says I guaranteed you'd get in!"
You have no ability, yet you dare to show off in front of him!
No leader would like someone like that.
The head of the personnel department lost his temper and berated those who hadn't been hired, making them feel embarrassed.
