"Is your nose alright? Is it okay?"
"It's nothing!" Jiang Ci rubbed her hand; it was just stress pain that would subside quickly. "Even though I was the one who filed for divorce, if you're not satisfied, you can just say so. Are you trying to vent your anger by attacking me now?"
A shadow fell over Zhou Mingli's eyes. "Me, petty?"
He looked at Jiang Ci with a deep gaze, his tone carrying an unreadable emotion, "To hear you help me is truly an honor."
To Jiang Ci, these words were sarcastic remarks that made her grit her teeth.
Jiang Ci then reiterated her position, "Don't overthink it. We're already divorced. We're helping each other now because of practical reasons. Once our difficulties are resolved, whatever you want to do will have nothing to do with me."
This means that the two people support each other in times of trouble, and then part ways after they get out of trouble.
Zhou Mingli stared at Jiang Ci, then laughed in exasperation. He jumped out of the car and said, "If that's how you see it, fine. I washed your hair last night, so you have to help me take a shower tonight."
"You must take me to town for the rest of the journey."
Jiang Ciqi continued riding forward, rationally retorting, "Zhou Mingli! Don't act like a hooligan here! Is washing your hair and taking a bath the same thing?"
She was 1.66 meters tall, but the 82-inch steel rod was already quite large. Zhou Mingli, being tall and strong, could touch the ground with his feet when he sat on the seat, while Jiang Ci had to lean to sit on it.
One foot is on the ground, the other foot is in the air.
He leaned against the bicycle at an angle.
It's stuck... stuck! =_=
“To me, it’s the same thing.” Zhou Mingli stood aside with his arms crossed, watching Jiang Ci struggle to get on the bicycle.
Jiang Ci jumped several times, but failed to get on the bus each time.
I don't even have time to argue with Zhou Mingli.
After the fourth failure, Jiang Ci's ears suddenly caught a short "hiss—"
Jiang Ci knew she looked ridiculous; her face, neck, and ears were all red.
Angry.
After being glared at fiercely by Jiang Ci, Zhou Mingli's anger inexplicably dissipated.
He approached, supporting Jiang Ci's arm with one hand and the handlebars of the bicycle with the other. With a slight push, Jiang Ci slowly started to move up by stepping on the pedals.
I must say, the field of vision on this 82-bar is really good.
Jiang Ci said in a muffled voice, "Come up."
Zhou Mingli jumped up and straddled the back seat.
Jiang Ci held the dragon head and wobbled precariously for a couple of moments, but just when Zhou Mingli thought it was about to tip over, she managed to stabilize it.
The pace slowed towards the town, but we continued on.
Zhou Mingli looked at her back; it was thin and straight, as if she always possessed an indomitable spirit and was constantly growing.
Jiang Ci can ride a bicycle, otherwise Zhou Mingli wouldn't have asked her to give him a ride.
Zhou Mingli clutched his abdomen, where the wound was painful.
Neither of them spoke on the way, seemingly because Jiang Ci had brought up the topic of divorce, and Zhou Mingli was still somewhat angry.
He closed his eyes, unwilling to recall the scene when Jiang Ci coldly proposed a divorce to him.
Two months have passed since then, but the incident remains vivid in Zhou Mingli's mind.
Because it was almost Qixi Festival, his mother called him and asked him to spend more time with Jiang Ci to reduce the gossip.
As his career became more and more successful, so did the temptations around him. Even though he explained and refused again and again, there were still greedy people who wanted to curry favor with him and get benefits from him.
Zhou Mingli was so annoyed that he simply stopped paying attention. But the rumors only spread further and further, eventually reaching his mother and father's ears.
Zhou Mingli was furious. While planning to take down all the troublemakers, he also rushed to finish his official business and personally bought a new product from a designer that Jiang Ci had mentioned liking as a Qixi Festival gift for her.
Zhou Mingli received a message from Jiang Ci as he got off the plane.
Wife: Let's go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to sign an agreement after we get off the plane.
Zhou Mingli looked at the consistently cold words and instinctively felt something was wrong, so he called her.
"What are you going to the Civil Affairs Bureau for? What kind of supplementary agreement do you need?" he asked, trying to remain calm.
"Don't you understand?" Jiang Ci's voice sounded distant and detached on the phone. "Sign the divorce agreement."
Zhou Mingli's mind went blank.
His pace quickened and slowed at times, but his breathing was unusually heavy, and his deep voice suppressed his emotions, "What divorce? Jiang Ci, why are you suddenly bringing this up?"
Jiang Ci chuckled, “When we collaborated before, we made it very clear that I need a husband, and you need connections and resources to gain a foothold in this city.”
"Zhou Mingli, you are now successful in your career and are considered an outstanding person by others. You have already gotten what you wanted from me, so isn't it a good time to get a divorce now?"
“I don’t need a husband anymore, do you understand, Zhou Mingli?”
Jiang Ci always knew how to stab people in the back, and each stab ripped Zhou Mingli's heart apart.
He gripped his phone tightly, his eyes bloodshot with anger, his jaw trembling, and the words squeezed out from between his teeth, "I disagree."
"Jiang Ci, I disagree!"
From the time Jiang Ci proposed the divorce until they actually went to the Civil Affairs Bureau to complete the divorce procedures, those two months were almost the most painful two months for Zhou Mingli. Even now, thinking about it still makes his temples throb, and the stress-induced pain reflex in his brain is still there.
Zhou Mingli looked at her back and put his arm around her waist.
When his hand landed on her abdomen, Jiang Ci almost exploded, "Zhou Mingli, what are you doing?"
Zhou Mingli was furious that Jiang Ci divorced him. He gritted his teeth and said to his ex-wife, "If the wound reopens, I'll fall down and show you what I'm capable of if you don't let me help you up."
Jiang Ci: Stop trying to scam me!
She knew how serious Zhou Mingli's injuries were. He should have been resting at home these past few days, and it was a forced trip for him to go to town.
She gritted her teeth and huffed and puffed as she pedaled the pedals with all her might.
I'm riding, I'm riding, I'm riding!
This old-fashioned bicycle was obviously not as easy to ride as a mountain bike. When Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli arrived in town, Jiang Ci was also covered in sweat.
Zhou Mingli, on the other hand, got plenty of rest, and the sweat on his back dried. He looked even better than Jiang Ci.
He strolled leisurely, but before he had taken more than a few steps, he felt people pointing and whispering about him.
"Such a big man, having his wife drive him around, that's not manly at all."
"Look how tired his wife is, her face is covered in sweat, and she even has a head injury!"
"Exploiting disabled women's labor! They're not human!"
Zhou Mingli, receiving condemning glances from the crowd: "..."
Jiang Ci had no handkerchiefs or tissues, her face and body were covered in sweat, and she had gauze on her head. She was already thin and had a sallow complexion, but now she looked even more pitiful.
Feeling pity from others, Jiang Ci said to Zhou Mingli in a low voice, "Don't worry, I will never be with them. After all, we are both disabled."
Zhou Mingli: “…”
