The two elderly British men were hit where it hurt by Jiang Ci's words, and their faces turned bright red.
I don't know if they were upset because of the independence movement or because of the last "pillock" comment.
He kept saying "fuck" in his mouth.
Zhou Mingli silently pulled Jiang Ci back, afraid that she would be beaten.
She'd be dancing to Old Ying's every whim.
Jiang Ci doesn't care about all that; he just wants to vent his anger.
The two old British men glared at Jiang Ci. Outnumbered, they didn't dare to actually make a move. They stopped shopping and slowly turned to leave.
The passengers laughed heartily when they saw them slink away, as if they had won a battle.
Cheng Huasheng felt ashamed. He looked at Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli and said to Jiang Ci, "You seem to know a lot about the history of the British."
Jiang Ci's body stiffened, and sweat began to bead on her back.
Oh no, I was so busy venting that I didn't even think of an excuse.
Zhou Mingli supported Jiang Ci's back and said calmly, "I heard her say that she knew an Englishman in her hometown before. This history must have been told by that Englishman, right?"
Jiang Ci's expression softened, and she continued, following Zhou Mingli's words, "Oh right, that foreigner had a lot of books about British history at home, and I read a lot of them too, so I have a fairly good understanding of some aspects of British history."
"When I was a child, I asked him some questions about what Great Britain really meant, and he answered me. He even said that Scottish independence was just a sarcastic remark that foreigners couldn't stand."
This is a lie.
When Jiang Ci was very young, her parents consciously instilled in her world history, especially the tumultuous modern history of the world.
Her foreign teacher was British, and she was very competent, telling Jiang Ci many jokes that British people would absolutely not accept.
For example, Scottish independence, football, class consciousness, etc.
Cheng Huasheng didn't care much about these things, but after listening to Jiang Ci's words, he suddenly realized, "So that's why those two foreigners were so angry when they left!"
Jiang Ci smiled and said, "Who knows?"
Maybe that last "idiot" comment was part of the reason too.
After dealing with the two foreigners, Jiang Ci and the others continued to look at the enamelware.
After walking forward for a while, Jiang Ci suddenly looked back.
But they saw a woman quietly following them.
She saw Jiang Ci turn her head to look at her, seemingly unsurprised, and even nodded at Jiang Ci.
Jiang Ci raised her eyebrows and patted Zhou Mingli, "You watch the two children first."
Zhou Mingli frowned and looked down at her.
"It's okay."
Jiang Ci handed Miao Miao, who was excitedly trying to run outside, to Zhou Mingli and walked in the direction where the woman was.
Jiang Ci walked up to the woman. "Hello? Excuse me... were you looking at me just now?"
“Yes.” The woman extended her hand to her. “Hello, Comrade Jiang, my name is Liu Ke. I am an employee of the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responsible for receiving foreign friends.”
It's the Ministry of Foreign Affairs again.
Jiang Ci shook hands with her, "Jiang Ci."
Jiang porcelain.
Liu Ke smiled and said, "You know a lot about British history."
Jiang Ci said quietly, "I don't know that much about it."
“While your words are very gratifying, there is something I need to tell you,” Liu Ke said. “That last sentence will make those foreign friends uncomfortable, and they might complain to our Department of Protocol.”
“If this matter isn’t dealt with, they might go back to China and broadcast their experiences in our country on the BBC.” Liu Ke shrugged. “You may not have heard of the butterfly effect.”
"A tiny butterfly flapping its wings may cause a storm in another place."
"Perhaps this very statement could lead to another war."
After listening to Liu Ke's words, Jiang Ci's expression remained unchanged, still smiling. "October 16, 1964, that's a memorable day, isn't it?"
Liu Ke was slightly taken aback.
"If you think so, should I refute what those two old British men said?"
Jiang Ci asked Liu Ke two questions, then nodded politely to her, saying, "My husband, children, and friends are waiting for me, so I'll be leaving now."
After saying that, Jiang Ci left.
Liu Ke watched Jiang Ci's departing figure, and for a moment he didn't know what to say.
She glanced at Jiang Ci again, thinking to herself, "Why is Comrade Jiang acting so unpredictably?"
Today, she is accompanying these two foreigners to visit the Forbidden City.
In the blink of an eye, they ran off on their own. Liu Ke caught up and witnessed this commotion.
Liu Ke's threat to Jiang Ci was certainly not because she had any objection to Jiang Ci's actions.
Things are different now. Two mere foreign friends publicly insulted cultural relics. Liu Ke never intended to sit idly by, but Cheng Huasheng took action first.
She thought it was wonderful to meet someone so calm, composed, intelligent, and fluent in English.
Given his spoken English and understanding of British history, it would be a real shame not to recruit him into the Foreign Office.
She originally wanted to recruit Jiang Ci into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs!
Seriously…
Liu Ke sighed, then secretly cheered himself up. It's okay, he already knows her name. When he gets back, he can talk to his superiors about it. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is short of talent right now, and they can't let such a good talent slip through their fingers.
The Jiang family and the Cheng family spent about three hours at the Forbidden City, and then went to eat at Donglaishun.
After playing and eating to their hearts' content, they leisurely returned home.
Before they even parted ways at the bus stop, Jiang Ci saw Zhou Gou and Zhou Huai buying things at a convenience store.
