Chapter 266: Every Inch is Like a Knife

After speaking with Huang Zheyue, Jiang Ci took Zhou Miao back to the bedroom to rest.

She wasn't wearing shoes. Jiang Ci put her on the bed, and she let out a "whoosh" and started jumping around on the bed.

This girl is clearly not sleepy yet.

Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli exchanged a glance, and Zhou Mingli pulled out a book from the bookshelf on the desk.

"Do you want to hear a storybook?" Zhou Mingli asked, grabbing Zhou Miao and tucking her into the blankets.

"Yes!" Zhou Miao answered loudly, her eyes sparkling as she looked at her father, then turned to her mother, and said in a childish voice, "Will Daddy read to me and Mommy?"

Jiang Ci: I'm not interested in storybooks.

She readily climbed into bed and lay down next to Zhou Miao, slowly saying, "Tell me quickly."

The veins on the back of Zhou Mingli's hand holding the storybook bulged, and his deep gaze fell on Jiang Ci.

His wife and daughter lay together, one big and one small, their eyes equally bright as they looked at him.

Zhou Mingli raised his hand and rubbed Zhou Miao's head, then calmly opened the storybook and began to tell the story.

"When the two armies faced each other, the Xia people knew from the sight of the white banner with the character 'command' that it was the Golden Knife Commander She Taijun leading the Yang family's female generals into battle, with Mu Guiying as the vanguard commander..."

Halfway through his story, Zhou Mingli noticed Zhou Miao looking at him with particular excitement, her expression clearly conveying her desire to stay awake, as if asking, "What's next? What else? And then?!"

Zhou Mingli closed the storybook expressionlessly. "That's all for today. You should go to sleep now."

Zhou Miao immediately wilted and pleaded, "Dad, can't you tell me one more story?"

"Can't."

Zhou Miao could only hide under the covers and say, "Okay."

Zhou Mingli put the storybook back on the stand, then lifted the covers and lay down next to Jiang Ci.

Before he could even hug his wife, Zhou Miao hugged Jiang Ci and said in a childish voice, "Mommy, you smell so good."

So warm and soft, it feels so comfortable to hug.

Zhou Mingli: "..."

He'll go find someone to make a bed tomorrow.

Jiang Ci, unaware of what the person behind her was thinking, rubbed Zhou Miao's head and said, "Go to sleep."

Children have no worries. They close their eyes and fall asleep quickly in their mother's arms, where they feel extremely safe.

My sleep quality is exceptionally good.

Zhou Mingli was not asleep. Hearing Zhou Miao snoring softly, he pulled Jiang Ci into his arms.

The blanket was being rubbed against her, and thankfully it was big enough, otherwise Zhou Miao would have no blanket to cover herself with if she kept turning over like that.

"Was the storybook enjoyable?" he asked in a low voice.

“You’re just stating the facts; you have absolutely no storytelling talent,” Jiang Ci said ruthlessly.

Zhou Mingli: "..."

He put his arm around Jiang Ci's waist, "Then why are you listening so enthusiastically?"

Jiang Ci smiled, "Can't I even listen? How can you be so petty?"

A soft laugh drifted into Zhou Mingli's ears. He turned off the light, cupped her face, and kissed her.

Considering Zhou Miao's presence, Zhou Mingli didn't do anything excessive, like kissing or rubbing her.

He stopped with restraint, slipped his hand inside her clothes, and his rough fingertips caressed her waist.

Zhou Mingli pressed his cheek against hers affectionately and said in a low, husky voice, "I saw Guo Zhen's car outside this afternoon."

Jiang Ci: "?"

"Outside the family dormitory?"

“Hmm, I didn’t see who it was, but it was probably one of those three,” Zhou Mingli said. “He was able to send someone to sabotage Zhao Wen and also knew that we were in Beijing.”

It's just a matter of how long it will take.

That's why, just as Jiang Ci was about to join the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zhou Mingli was thinking of finding an opportunity to get in touch with higher-ups and risk recommending her.

Both of them had expected this, so Jiang Ci wasn't too shocked when she heard it.

She quickly calmed down and said, "Okay, I understand."

"Are you scared?" He gently brushed his cheek against Jiang Ci's cheek.

Jiang Ci chuckled softly, "Afraid? Are you talking about me?"

Zhou Mingli didn't answer, he just kept kissing her lips and holding her tighter.

He entwined his tongue with Jiang Ci's, making her tongue numb and unable to swallow. The hand behind her back pushed her forcefully, pressing her against the person in front of her without any gap.

Zhou Mingli gently rubbed Jiang Ci's skin. "Don't be afraid, Jiang Ci."

Jiang Ci wanted to say that she wasn't afraid.

But she could feel the trembling of Zhou Mingli's fingers.

Is Zhou Mingli afraid?

No, he is not a coward. If someone causes him trouble, he will only retaliate more violently.

He was trembling over something.

Jiang Ci grasped Zhou Mingli's hand.

...

Jiang Ci skillfully completed all the manuscripts.

Take it to Mingzhu to see.

Besides Mingzhu, Zheng Xiao was also in the office.

As soon as she came in, Zheng Xiao's face turned extremely sour.

He glanced at Mingzhu. "You must keep your promise to me!"

Mingzhu waved her hand impatiently.

Zheng Xiao turned and left, giving Jiang Ci another cold snort before walking away haughtily.

Jiang Ci ignored him and gave the manuscript to Mingzhu.

This is the third revised version. After reading it, Mingzhu finally nodded and said, "Take it to the typists to type it out, and then have them print it out separately."

Jiang Ci replied, "Okay."

Mingzhu looked up at her and said, "I have a reception today, you'll come with me in a bit."

Jiang Ci: "?"

Once the door was opened, the warmth of the venue saved those who were almost frozen.

Jiang Ci, wearing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs uniform, followed Mingzhu inside.

"Around ten o'clock, ten countries will arrive. I remember you speak very good English and know a lot about Britain, so you will be in charge of receiving the British guests. Comrade Jiang, can you do it?"
