Chapter 279: Words Fail to Express Meaning

Jiang Ci is not someone who likes to reveal her inner feelings.

She is generous with her praise for strangers because she knows that doing so will increase others' goodwill towards her.

But if someone were to seriously ask her about her hobbies, Jiang Ci's answer would always be quite gentle: "I don't have any hobbies."

She hides her emotions and preferences, and only a few close friends and family members can glimpse them.

If she hadn't been drunk today...

Zhou Mingli wiped her face clean, lifted her up by the waist, and helped her take off her coat.

"Zhou Mingli, are you even listening to me...?" Jiang Ci frowned, dissatisfied with his silence.

“I’m listening.” Zhou Mingli looked at her and said, “What did Grandpa Cheng say to you?”

Jiang Ci blinked, then refused to say anything more.

She's like a child who has received a red heart, wanting to share it with others, yet also content to keep it to herself and unwilling to let others see it.

Zhou Mingli didn't argue with her or ask any more questions. He helped her to the bedside and brought her her toothbrush and water cup.

"Should I help you or do it yourself?" Zhou Mingli handed her a toothbrush with toothpaste already squeezed out.

Jiang Ci said, "I'll do it myself."

She reached out to grab the toothbrush, but missed every time.

The surroundings were spinning, making her feel dizzy.

Zhou Mingli supported her and said in a low voice, "Jiang Ci, open your mouth."

She obediently opened her mouth.

Zhou Mingli held her chin and brushed each of her teeth thoroughly, leaving no gaps.

After saying this, Jiang Ci watched Zhou Mingli leave with sleepy eyes. She murmured, "My grandfather, like Grandpa Cheng, always thought of me before he passed away. Before he died, he was still thinking of coming to the city to see me."

The sound of rushing water reached Jiang Ci's ears. She lay back under the covers, raised her hand to shield her eyes from the bright light, and murmured, "I never thought about recognizing another parent or grandparent in this world."

"He's so good to me, it's putting me in a difficult position..."

Jiang Ci is not a cold-hearted person. Having grown up surrounded by love, she knows the value of true feelings. She is generous with her sincere affection, but she will not give love and true feelings away casually.

When Zhou Mingli returned, Jiang Ci had her eyes closed and seemed to be about to fall asleep.

He walked to the bedside, only to hear Jiang Ci ask, "Is it clean?"

Zhou Mingli bent down, put one hand under the pillow, and used the other hand to pry open her mouth. He lowered his head and kissed her, his tongue touching every one of her teeth.

He said, "It's very clean."

Jiang Ci reacted somewhat slowly. Zhou Mingli changed into his pajamas, got into bed, and felt his body, which was as warm as a stove. Only then did Jiang Ci realize what was happening and say, "I was asking you."

Who said he brushed her teeth?

"Check it yourself?"

Jiang Ci: "..."

She rolled over and pinned Zhou Mingli down.

The lights were turned off, isolating the small space from all the cold, making it feel both cramped and warm.

The words that were about to spill from his mouth were blocked again. Zhou Mingli held her slender wrist, his thumb pressing against her pulse, feeling her heartbeat.

A hoarse voice rang in my ears amidst the ups and downs, "You'll find it difficult to deal with Old Master Cheng's sincerity, but what about me?"

"Jiang Ci, what does my heart mean to you?"

Jiang Ci's head was spinning, and the danger behind her made her feel uneasy. She wanted to avoid the danger, but she was held tightly.

Zhou Mingli pressed Jiang Ci for answers again and again, but her mouth was tightly sealed, and she couldn't utter a single word.

Jiang Ci was thinking about this even before she fell asleep.

Who is Zhou Mingli?

He was her most trusted partner.

He is her most compatible partner.

He was her most compatible companion.

She went against her nature, defied her instincts, and failed to express herself clearly...

Jiang Ci, leaning against Zhou Mingli's chest, had a calm expression and regular breathing, her warmth radiating onto his chest.

Zhou Mingli leaned against Jiang Ci and let out a long sigh.

He fumbled around for a while and pulled a small black tube from under her pillow, then placed it under her pillow as well.

Zhou Mingli kissed Jiang Ci's forehead.

She'll probably find out when she wakes up tomorrow morning, right?

...

Jiang Citian woke up refreshed as soon as it was light.

Drinking alcohol not only helps her sleep, but it also increases her deep sleep. Jiang Ci was quite satisfied with this dreamless night's rest.

The spot next to her had long since gone cold, but Jiang Ci was used to it. She reached under her pillow to fumble for a hair tie to fasten her hair.

But instead, his fingers touched a round tube that was thicker than his thumb.

She was suspicious, so she got up, lifted the pillow, and saw what it was.

A lipstick.

Jiang Ci knew without even thinking who had given it to him.

Thinking of the absurd things she did while drunk last night, she was speechless.

Then Jiang Ci laughed, opened it and looked at the color. It was a strawberry red with a hint of rotten tomato color. Lipsticks are expensive and there aren't many colors available these days. It's amazing that Zhou Mingli could find this color.

He must have bought it yesterday when he suddenly said he was going to the restroom at the department store.

Jiang Ci changed her clothes with renewed energy, washed up, applied face cream, and then tried the color on her lips.

Although she wasn't wearing makeup, just a touch of shimmer on her lips made Jiang Ci's complexion look significantly better.

Looking at herself in the mirror, she saw a smile in her eyes and a spring-like beauty in her gaze.

She smiled, not at all resistant to the meaning represented by that touch of spring color; in fact, she felt happy about it.

Jiang Ci went to the kitchen to make breakfast.

Huang Zheyue also got up, and she asked Huang Zheyue to help wake the two children up.

After lunch, she and Huang Zheyue took Zhou Yang and Zhou Miao to kindergarten.

On the way, I encountered Bai Hua. She seemed to be off work today. When I saw Jiang Ci with her child, my gaze involuntarily fell on her lipstick-covered lips.

Since they were both women, Bai Hua naturally knew what was on her lips.

She was incredibly jealous. Jiang Ci wasn't pretty, and lipstick didn't suit her at all! She'd rather give her the lipstick; she'd look a thousand times better in it than Jiang Ci!

Bai Hua forced a smile, "Comrade Xiao Jiang, your family can afford lipstick? Where did you buy this? Can I take a look?"

Jiang Ci looked at her with a half-smile, "My husband bought it at a department store, so I'm afraid I can't show it to you."

Damn it, what's there to brag about!

Bai Hua cursed inwardly, but couldn't show it on her face. "Your husband is so good to you. These days, other people can't even afford to eat, but your husband can still buy you lipstick."

“If I had that kind of spare money, I would definitely use it to buy food and give it to people who can’t afford to eat,” Bai Hua said softly, subtly mocking Jiang Ci’s family for their extravagant spending.

"No wonder my wife said your family is rich, you even gave the steamed buns to my wife to eat."

Do you have any extra steamed buns? How about I go back and get them for you later?

Bai Hua choked on Jiang Ci's words and said aggrievedly, "Comrade Jiang, what are you saying? My family doesn't have any spare money right now. If it weren't for you, would I...would I have spent so much money on other people's medical treatment?"

She was referring to the incident of the naked educated youth attacking someone.
