Jiang Ci's family also has a 12-year-old nanny named Huang Zheyue.
She thought that hiring a dropout to help take care of her child was her bottom line.
Unexpectedly, in her actual work, she made a mistake by asking a sixteen-year-old girl for advice.
Jiang Ci rubbed her temples, a slight headache on her face. "Do your parents know you're involved in organized crime... I mean, your job?"
Upon hearing this, Shan Lian's expression changed, and she said stiffly, "I have no parents!"
After saying that, she got on her bicycle and rode away.
Completely forgetting that Jiang Ci had come here on her bicycle.
Jiang Ci shook her head helplessly and glanced down at the time.
It was already time for her to get off work, and Jiang Ci strolled slowly toward the nearby bus stop, intending to take the bus home.
Halfway through her bicycle ride, Danlian remembered that she had left Jiang Ci at the embassy. Realizing something was wrong, she dawdled and headed towards the embassy.
Finding no one there, she glared at them, then angrily pedaled the pedals, leaving afterimages, and sped home in one breath.
She's not going to be a pushover anymore; she absolutely refuses to let Jiang Ci hitch a ride!
The Shan family lived in a rather beautiful three-courtyard siheyuan (traditional courtyard house).
She parked her bicycle, and the police officer greeted her with a smile, "Xiao Lian is back."
Shan Lian nodded and ran home.
"How reckless and disorderly!"
An old voice rang out from under the eaves.
Dan Lian turned her head and saw the person who had come in. She drew out her voice, a touch of girlish naiveté in it, "Grandpa—"
She ran over, hugged Shan Shengshuo's arm, and gently pleaded, "I wasn't reckless at all!"
Dan Shengshuo gently pinched her nose, his eyes full of kindness. "How have you been feeling at work these past few days?"
"I'm a little tired. I have to get up early every day, and it's so cold," Shan Lian pouted and said unhappily.
Dan Shengshuo said irritably, "I suggested you go to the Workers, Peasants and Soldiers University, but you weren't happy about it. You left school early to start working. Now you know what hardship is, right?"
"No way!" Shan Lian retorted, then, thinking of the great thing she had accomplished, she said to Shan Shengshuo with great enthusiasm, "Grandpa, I helped my colleagues with a very big deal. Today, my boss even took me to the embassy to discuss cooperation!"
"My boss is really amazing. He's going back and forth with Mr. Henry from the embassy, and he speaks so fast that I can't understand a lot of him! Luckily, I don't have to negotiate with anyone. I just have to draw according to the requirements. Otherwise, my tongue would definitely get tied and I would be a burden."
In front of her family, Shan Lian lost the arrogance she displayed in public.
Dan Shengshuo said with a stern face, "Who dares to say you're a burden?"
If this were true, he would definitely give the other party a good talking-to.
"No, I was even praised! Nobody said I was a burden," Shan Lian quickly clarified. "Grandpa, don't you know how amazing your granddaughter is?"
Shan Shengshuo's expression improved somewhat, and he pulled Shan Lian inside.
On the way, they encountered Shan Shengshuo's son, who was also Shan Lian's uncle. Shan Lian stood obediently to the side and called out, "Uncle."
Shan Lian's uncle was clearly very busy. He called out "Dad" to Shan Shengshuo, nodded to Shan Lian, asked her how her work was going, and then left the house.
"Uncle is really busy," Shan Lian muttered, watching her uncle's hurried figure.
“It’s better for him to be busy than to be idle all day.” Shan Shengshuo pulled Shan Lian along. “Sweetie, your dad will be coming the day after tomorrow. Please take the day off to stay home with your grandpa, okay?”
The smile on Shan Lian's face vanished in an instant.
...
Xia family.
Looking at Xia Lei, who spent his days doing nothing and had a gloomy face and always went out, Old Master Xia said in a deep voice, "Stop."
Xia Lei, who was about to leave, stopped and turned around. "Grandpa."
Grandpa Xia scolded him with great distress, "Look at yourself now! For a woman, you don't even go to work. You just hang around outside and don't do anything productive. Are you even presentable?!"
Xia Lei clenched his fists, a hint of pain flashing in his eyes, before saying earnestly, "That's my wife, Grandpa. You should know better than anyone why things have turned out this way between us."
"Are you blaming me?!" Old Master Xia's voice boomed, almost as if he were consumed by rage.
"I wouldn't dare," Xia Lei said in a low voice.
"I wouldn't dare! I think you'd be more than brave!" Old Master Xia roared. "If you weren't my grandson, do you think I would take care of an unwanted woman!"
"I've already done more than enough by bringing her and her son to Beijing and giving them a place to live, but what has she done?" Old Master Xia's face darkened. "She can't do housework, and she doesn't know how to get along with her sisters-in-law. I told her to move out, but she seduced Xiang Xue and didn't even go to school, running to her place every day to bring her food. When she came back, I still had to wash the dishes that she and her son hadn't washed the day before!"
"Is this something a sister-in-law should do?!"
“Yin Yin has always been spoiled. In the years we’ve been married, I’ve never let her enter the kitchen. You treat her like a servant. Have you ever thought about how she feels?” Xia Lei was equally furious.
When Grandpa Xia heard his words, he was full of disappointment. "I thought that even if the wife you married wasn't the best person you could be, she should at least know how to assess the situation and understand what it means for times to change."
"Before you went in, it didn't matter how much you pampered her, but now that you're in, you're still thinking about having someone else pamper her for you. Who would take care of an outsider besides the person who has their eye on her? You don't understand this, and neither does your wife?"
Xia Lei's face looked very grim.
Grandpa Xia looked at him solemnly, "Since Liu Yinyin has already gone with Guo Zhen, you shouldn't try to get closer to him anymore."
