The two were clearly after Huang Zheyue. Huang Zheyue was in a hurry to grab bananas from the group of older women and young wives, and didn't notice that two tails were following her.
Just as we were about to reach the grocery store, there was a fork in the road that led into another alley.
The pursuers sped up and pounced directly on Huang Zheyue.
Before they could even touch Huang Zheyue, they were pinned down.
The two men turned their heads and met the eyes of the person who had pressed down on them, and cursed their bad luck inwardly.
They deliberately stayed away from the neighborhood where Zhou Mingli lived, but they didn't expect that someone else would follow and protect Huang Zheyue.
Hearing the commotion, Huang Zheyue turned around and saw four people wrestling together.
He hesitated and stopped. Was it an undercover police officer arresting someone?
Huang Zheyue glanced at it twice, then ran quickly to the grocery store, squeezed through the crowd, clutching her money and tickets. Taking advantage of her agility, she quickly reached the front and said to the sales clerk, "I want to buy bananas! Eight of them!!"
The two people on the street had their hands tied behind their backs and were pulled to the side.
"I knew something was off about you guys a long time ago. You dared to make a move so openly and honestly. You're really something!"
Why did you attack the Zhou family?
"I don't understand what you're saying! Uh!"
He had barely uttered a word when he was punched.
"Stop giving me that nonsense. Since you won't talk, we have plenty of ways to make you open your mouth!"
The two of them were immediately covered up and carried away.
Completely unaware of the risks, Huang Zheyue happily bought the bananas and went home contentedly.
The person secretly protecting him shook his head when he saw that the kid seemed completely unaware of what was happening.
"Before, I was wondering why the boss made us protect this family, but now I understand."
A man squatting by the roadside muttered to himself, "It hasn't been that long, and someone's already come looking for trouble."
"They're still catching a kid. Damn it, they're shameless."
At 2:30 p.m., before leaving get off work, Zhou Mingli went to the telephone operator's booth and asked, "Do I have any calls today?"
Telephone operator: "..."
She rolled her eyes. "No, I haven't heard from you in the last few days."
Zhou Mingli nodded. "Okay."
After saying that, he thought for a moment, then took out a few pieces of candy from his pocket. "My son and daughter gave these to me before they went to school. Here, have some."
Zhou Mingli put the candy on the counter and turned to leave.
The telephone operator brought the candy over and distributed it to the other colleagues.
"Hey, why is he giving you candy?"
"Could it be that he's taken a liking to you?"
"How is that possible!" The telephone operator gave a ridiculous and indescribable look and said, "His wife is away on a business trip. Comrade Zhou comes twice a day. I come in the morning when I go to work, and he comes again before he leaves work. Each time, he asks me if his wife has called."
Once the telephone operator explained, the colleagues understood, and they all exclaimed in surprise, "Who knew this guy was so devoted to his wife!"
The telephone operator said, "Isn't it cheesy for a grown man to tell his wife he misses her?"
Everyone present shuddered and said it was cheesy.
As for whether she envied Zhou Mingli's lover or something else, I don't know.
Following the same method, Zhou Mingli went to the convenience store again before going home and asked the clerk if his wife had called.
The salesperson's answer was the same as the telephone operator's: no.
Zhou Mingli thanked the salesperson, gave him a cigarette, asked him to keep an eye out for the shopkeeper, and then went home.
Huang Zheyue was playing with a ball when she heard the noise and called out, "Uncle Zhou!"
Zhou Mingli nodded, parked his bicycle, and went to wash his hands.
Huang Zheyue followed behind him and said, "The grocery store got bananas today, I bought eight, two for each of us!"
"You certainly know how to buy things," Zhou Mingli laughed, then thought for a moment and said, "One is enough for each person, and I'll use the rest to make desserts."
Huang Zheyue's eyes lit up when she heard this. "Great!"
"If Aunt Jiang were home, she could eat too."
Zhou Mingli remained silent, then turned and walked out.
How could he possibly mistreat his wife?
He had bought fruit several times before. Since there wasn't much, Zhou Mingli's favoritism was obvious. Whenever there was fruit, if Jiang Ci wanted to eat it, he would cook a portion for her every night.
"Nothing else happened today, right?" Zhou Mingli asked Huang Zheyue, turning his head to the side.
"It's nothing serious. Oh, by the way, on my way to the grocery store, I ran into the local police arresting someone!" Huang Zheyue said excitedly.
"Arrest someone?" Zhou Mingli raised an eyebrow.
"That's right! Two people were tackled to the ground by plainclothes police officers, and we don't know what crime they committed."
Zhou Mingli didn't think of anything else for the moment, and nodded to indicate that he understood.
As the two were talking, a man walked in from outside. He looked around and saw Zhou Mingli. "Hello, I'd like to ask if the Zhou family lives around here?"
Zhou Mingli sized him up calmly and asked, "What business do you have with his family?"
"Oh, is that so? Someone wants to see him."
Zhou Mingli, "Who?"
The man chuckled, "The person I'm looking for is Zhou Mingli, comrade. If you know where he is, please tell me, okay?"
Zhou Mingli walked up to him and said, "I am Zhou Mingli."
The man paused for a moment, then looked him up and down. "You're Zhou Mingli?"
Zhou Mingli: "Who wants to see me?"
Seeing his openness, the man paused for a moment, then said, "Come with me."
Huang Zheyue wanted to say something, but was calmed down by a look from Zhou Mingli. He then followed the man and left the courtyard.
