"Don't worry, young comrade, I understand everything you're saying."
The elderly man, well past fifty, spoke calmly and deliberately, yet with a power that commanded respect.
Zhou Mingli suppressed the inexplicable panic and confusion, his thin lips pursed.
“I came here today specifically to talk to you because of these things,” the old man said slowly. “After all, your family was drawn into this turmoil because of my decision, and I have a responsibility to ensure the safety of your family.”
Hearing this, Zhou Mingli calmed down, looked at the old man, and said, "I understand, leader. Is there anything you would like to tell me?"
“You and your loved one are both very insightful people.” The old man smiled kindly. “Then I’ll speak frankly.”
“This neighborhood has always been watched, so you don’t need to worry about your child getting hurt. What I want you to do is continue living your life as before. If Shan Shengshuo sends someone to look for you, you can go and meet with him as usual until the end of this month, okay?”
It's already July.
Zhou Mingli lowered his eyes and thought for a moment.
Jiang Ci had mentioned that there would be another important meeting in the middle of this month, and the elderly man in front of him was officially reinstated after this meeting.
Leaving aside the changes that had a huge impact on later generations, it seems that this future leader is determined to settle scores with the Shan family.
He grew calmer and nodded, "Okay."
The old man's smile deepened, and he patted him on the shoulder, "Comrade Zhou, do you remember the question I asked you?"
"If you were given the opportunity and certification to do business, would you be willing to become a self-employed individual?"
Zhou Mingli replied without hesitation, "Of course, boss. You know, nobody doesn't want to make money."
The old man sighed, "Yes, nobody doesn't want to make money."
With the old man's promise, Zhou Mingli had no more doubts.
However, for the safety of his two children and Huang Zheyue, he reduced the number of times he went out to earn extra money with Chef Mo and picked up the two children on time every day.
Dan Shengshuo was also displeased that he couldn't catch Huang Zheyue for a long time.
He temporarily collected all the business cards that had invited him and destroyed them all. He also hid everything in his house, fearing that someone would break in and catch him red-handed.
"Your men have been arrested?"
Dan Shengshuo looked at Guo Zhen, who had come to explain the situation, with an uncertain expression.
Guo Zhen's expression wasn't too good either. "Yes, it's been three days since I sent the person over there, and they haven't returned or been heard from yet. It's obvious they've been arrested."
Dan Shengshuo paced back and forth. The Zhou family was clearly being protected, which made him even more convinced that Jiang Ci was actually an undercover agent.
Dan Shengshuo gritted his teeth and cursed inwardly, "Jiang Ci is really bold, daring to play such tricks on me..."
Guo Zhen said, "Uncle Shan, now is not the time to criticize Jiang Ci. Do you think there are any other ways to deal with this family?"
Shan Shengshuo said, "I am determined to kill this family, but before that, we need to prepare for our escape route."
Guo Zhen was startled.
Does this mean... you're preparing to leave Beijing?
"Uncle Shan, are you planning to abandon all your roots in Beijing?"
Shan Shengshuo glanced at him and said, "Do you know what the main topic of the next meeting will be?"
Guo Zhen frowned, pondered for a moment, and then asked, "Is that person... going to be reinstated?"
Shan Shengshuo nodded heavily. "Right now, his popularity is growing. I've been at odds with him for a long time, so it's hard to say whether he's heard rumors or whether he'll take action against us if he comes to power."
Guo Zhen realized the seriousness of the situation, but was still somewhat unwilling. "Are we just going to back out like this?"
Shan Shengshuo looked up at him. "This is just a way out. In the end, they didn't get any evidence that we killed or stole. I took everything that should have been there. They can't find it, they have no evidence, so they can't do anything to us."
Guo Zhen exhaled a breath of stale air, thought carefully for a moment, and said, "Once the people I sent to Zhongmo Town have a reply, we will know whether Jiang Ci knew about the existence of the Imperial Seal or not."
But whether he knows or not doesn't matter now, Shan Shengshuo has already decided to kill Jiang Ci.
Dan Shengshuo's eyes narrowed slightly. Not long after Guo Zhen left, he also went out.
He went to talk to some of his old friends in private.
...
As night deepened, a truck from Hong Kong arrived in Beijing.
After passing the inspection, they drove directly into a military region.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs was woken up in the middle of the night to meet with several high-ranking leaders by car.
As soon as the minister got out of the car, his former boss said, "We've been waiting for you. Come and see what this is."
"It's so late at night, old boss, you guys really have the guts to stay up all night."
As the minister spoke, he quickly walked to the truck.
He was still wearing a thin Zhongshan coat and his glasses, watching several soldiers get on the truck and unload everything.
It also has a seal with the name of the port of departure from Hong Kong on it, which clearly means that it was shipped directly from Hong Kong.
"This is..." The minister squinted and quickly began to feel his body. He took out a metal cigarette case from his pocket, pried out a photo of himself and his wife inside, with a piece of paper sandwiched in between.
The minister opened the paper.
"Is this the list of cultural relics that Jiang Ci found out from Shan Shengshuo that was to be shipped abroad for sale?" the old man asked him.
“Yes, Xiao Jiang went with Shan Shengshuo to look around and asked about the names of the artifacts. This is what she wrote down from memory again.” The minister nodded and said, “This girl is very quick-witted and can memorize things fast. She should be right.”
