Chapter 40 Without your permission, how could I dare?

Jiang Ci didn't have any leads for the time being, and wanted to know why they had to wait.

When they arrived at the room in the corner, the captain didn't let her get close. He just stood at a distance, pointed to the room, and instructed her, "From now on, when you deliver food, put it here. Don't go near it, don't talk to him, and don't take any of the papers that come out of this room. Don't believe anything written on them."

Jiang Ci nodded, indicating that she understood.

Zhou Mingli, standing outside with his two children, looked very serious.

Everywhere here exudes an unsettling atmosphere and is extremely dangerous, making Zhou Mingli want to take Jiang Ci and the two children away from here.

Unfortunately, Jiangci has already been dragged into this, so saying anything now would just be hindsight.

Zhou Yang and Zhou Miao didn't have this problem. The two children just stayed not far from the bicycle, squatted there, muttering to themselves, and it was hard to tell what they were doing.

The captain then took Jiang Ci to greet the three men, saying that she would come to deliver food to the elderly man that afternoon. After the three men nodded, the captain left with Jiang Ci.

He didn't know what Jiang Ci thought, but most of the villagers in Shanding Brigade wouldn't like this place.

The advantage of switching to an easier job is that Jiang Ci has more free time. She can earn full work points by delivering three meals a day. Once Zhou Mingli finishes his rest, he can also go to work and maybe accumulate enough work points to pay off the debt to the production team.

After all, payday is in a month, and we need to save some work points to exchange for flour.

The brigade leader exchanged bicycles with Zhou Mingli at the village entrance. Zhou Yang and Zhou Miao, the two children, sat on the back seat, while Jiang Ci pushed the bicycle. The family of four were not in a hurry to go home and leisurely went to the clinic to change Zhou Mingli's dressing.

"The wound is healing alright, but a bit slowly. If you can rest, then rest well so the wound can heal faster." Dr. Niu changed his dressing and then turned to look at Zhou Miao.

Zhou Miao has been very happy these past two days because she's been eating well and doesn't seem as timid as before when she sees anyone. She called out to Jiang Ci in a clear voice, "Uncle Niu."

Dr. Niu touched her forehead. "Okay, the fever's gone down. Miao Miao has finished her medicine, right?"

Jiang Ci nodded. "I've already finished eating. I've been feeling pretty good these past few days, and I can eat and drink well."

"It's good that she can eat. If she can eat, it means she has recovered and doesn't need to take medicine anymore. Just be careful not to catch a cold when she gets home."

Jiang Ci smiled and said, "Okay, I understand."

Zhou Miao's dark face flushed slightly, and she hid behind Jiang Ci, embarrassed.

She thought to herself, feeling embarrassed: I ate so much food! Dad's cooking is delicious, I love it!

Dr. Niu looked at Jiang Ci's head again.

The wound on the back of her head has healed and she no longer needs to wear bandages.

But Jiang Ci felt that she could stay tied up for a few more days, at least to lower other people's guard against her.

After finishing all that, Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli took the two children home.

On the way, Jiang Ci said to Zhou Mingli, "It's fortunate that I bought this bicycle. It will save a lot of time on the way to deliver food to that old man."

Now that the matter was settled, Zhou Mingli wouldn't regret it or grumble anymore. He nodded and said, "We'll go together tonight. It's not safe for you to go alone."

These days, if you encounter a shameless villain, they might actually dare to drag a woman walking alone into the fields at night and force themselves on her.

Jiang Ci had never seen anything like it, but Zhou Mingli, who came from a poor background, knew very well that he would never let Jiang Ci walk alone at night.

Jiang Ci didn't refuse and nodded, "Okay."

After parking the car, the two children couldn't stand it anymore and went back to their room to sleep. Zhou Mingli then continued to finish weaving the chicken coop fence, which was still incomplete.

Zhou Mingli had already planned it out; he would place the chicken feeding area where Dazhu and Erzhu had pulled weeds last night, which is right next to the kitchen.

This wasn't difficult to make; Zhou Mingli had done it before, so it was done quickly. The only problem was that the bamboo needed to be cut open, so Jiang Ci took the saw and started sawing the bamboo.

Miss Jiang had never done this before. She exerted all her strength, her face turning red, before she managed to make a shallow cut.

Zhou Mingli, watching from the side, couldn't help but chuckle quietly.

Jiang Ci wiped her sweat and said, "This is no easier than harvesting wheat."

“You’re using the wrong force.” Zhou Mingli stood up, walked to Jiang Ci’s side, and grabbed her hand from behind.

"Lift your foot and step on it."

"Jiang Ci, don't use so much force, relax a bit."

Zhou Lao Er actually looks a lot like Zhou Mingli, but Zhou Lao Er has a roguish air about him and doesn't look like a good person. Zhou Mingli works part-time while studying and is able to attend one of the top universities in the country. He has a humble and unassuming demeanor. After six or seven years of ups and downs in the business world, Zhou Mingli's temperament has become more and more calm and restrained, and his emotions are very introverted. No one can usually provoke him.

Now that the two are close, Jiang Ci can easily feel the intonation of Zhou Mingli's speech.

Even under the shade of a tree, it's not that cool in the sweltering summer.

Jiang Ci, feeling annoyed, continued learning and said, "Are you teaching me how to use a saw or trying to take advantage of me?"

Zhou Mingli chuckled, "How could I dare without your permission?"

Jiang Ci glanced at him and said, "You have to suppress any ideas you have."

"Right now, all I want is to improve my quality of life."

Zhou Mingli said helplessly, "I have the same thoughts as you."

"It's easy to go from frugality to extravagance, but difficult to go from extravagance to frugality." Zhou Mingli was still holding Jiang Ci's hand, reluctant to let go, and said very seriously, "Jiang Ci, at first I didn't expect that you would accept life in this era so easily."
