Chapter 83 I’m Not Afraid!

Jiang Ci spoke unintentionally, but Liu San took it to heart.

Yes, people are all made of flesh and blood. Even though he didn't treat the old man well before, if he treats him better now, maybe he'll say a few good words about him when he leaves.

Liu San's panic subsided, and he immediately rushed back to his room to get his food.

The old man, who hadn't yet entered the house, glanced thoughtfully at Jiang Ci's departing figure.

Why did this girl help him?

The old man couldn't figure out the answer, but looking at the food Liu San brought him, he slowly accepted it.

Why not eat the decent food available? Why be so unkind to yourself?

Liu San breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that the old man had accepted his kindness. Didn't this mean that the old man wouldn't cause him any trouble when he went back?

Who knows, maybe in the future, because the old man remembers his kindness, he can help him achieve great success.

Liu San felt pleased. As he passed by Shen Conghe's house, he chuckled, "Principal Shen... no, the principal of the textile factory school is Principal Zheng now. Shen Conghe, your family is quite wealthy. We searched your house three times and still managed to find some good stuff."

Jiang Ci, who hadn't gone far, heard Liu San's words and turned to look back.

But then Shen Conghe was seen frantically banging on the locked door, yelling, "What do you mean?! Are you even human?! You've come to my house three times and caused trouble! What have you done to my wife and children?!"

Liu San finally felt relieved. "Shen Conghe, you once gave your son a fountain pen, didn't you?"

Shen Conghe froze for a moment, and then Jiang Ci heard a low, furious roar that sounded like his liver and gallbladder were about to burst.

Jiang Ci took a deep breath, then sighed, got on her bicycle, and left.

No wonder Liu San was so angry when he came back; it turns out he went to town today too, and it seems that this group of people went to the Shen family to plunder things again.

No wonder Shen Conghe went crazy. If it were her, and someone ransacked her home for no reason and took away all her valuables, Jiang Ci would definitely be even crazier than him.

Jiang Ci rode her bicycle home.

Zhou Mingli had already prepared dinner and was serving it out.

"Mom! Dinner's ready!"

As soon as she entered, she smelled a strong aroma of fish. An oil lamp illuminated the steaming food on the table, and Zhou Miao and Zhou Yang rushed over to surround her.

Jiang Ci's anger, which had risen from what she had seen and heard at the cowshed, was quietly soothed. She smiled at the two children and said, "Wash your hands and eat."

Zhou Mingli made fish potstickers for dinner.

The aroma was so strong that Zhou Yang and Zhou Miao couldn't help but grab the stove and swallow their saliva as soon as they smelled it before even lifting the lid.

You ask, "Is it cooked yet?" I reply, "It's ready to eat!"

The two of them said again, "Dad, dinner's ready!"

Zhou Mingli dragged the two children out and said coldly, "Your mother hasn't come back yet."

The two children began to eagerly await Jiang Ci's return.

We've finally got Jiang Ci back, so of course we should start eating right away!

The children are all hungry, and their parents must be hungry too!

Jiang Ci didn't keep them waiting long. After washing their hands, the family sat down around the table to eat.

It has to be said that Zhou Mingli has some skill; the fish potstickers tasted quite good.

Even though we had a big lunch, we still managed to eat most of this pot of fish and pancakes.

After dinner, Zhou Mingli and Jiang Ci started working. Zhou Mingli prepared the white lime they had bought, while Jiang Ci took advantage of the break to pull away all the things against the walls in the room.

After making sure nothing would get in their way, Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli each took a roller and got to work.

The house wasn't very big to begin with; two people could stand on stools or on cabinets, basically reaching as high as they could.

Of course, don't expect these two people to clean the house like the mansion they used to live in. Scraping off the dirt and repainting the walls to make it look clean and pleasing to the eye is already the best they can do.

Jiang Ci was not as tall as Zhou Mingli, who was over 1.8 meters tall and could apply whitewash up to the area near the wooden beam.

She diligently finished brushing the bottom, then used a lamp to illuminate the area for Zhou Mingli.

To be fair, Zhou Mingli has some obsessive-compulsive tendencies. Every time he raises his hand, the starting point must be level with the position of the previous raising, and then he can't help but slant it as he goes down.

Jiang Ci, who was watching Zhou Mingli work from below and helping him with the lighting: has obsessive-compulsive disorder, but not much of it.

At least when you look up, the line between the white and black is straight, which is pleasing to the eye, isn't it?

Jiang Ci praised Zhou Mingli, saying, "You did a really good job."

"We might be able to finish painting the whole house tonight."

"Zhou Mingli, we can sleep outside tonight, look at the stars, and let the house air out."

Upon hearing this, Zhou Mingli turned his head and asked, "Aren't you afraid of getting bitten by mosquitoes?"

Jiang Ci: "Burning some mugwort should be fine, right?"

Before they bought mosquito nets, the way they used to repel mosquitoes was to cut a handful of mugwort, dry it, and burn it inside the house.

That scent is quite effective at repelling mosquitoes.

Since Jiang Ci had said so, the room needed to be ventilated and cleaned after painting, and it couldn't be lived in yet. Zhou Mingli tacitly agreed with Jiang Ci's words and quickly finished painting the walls of the room. He opened all the windows, and Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli took Zhou Miao and Zhou Yang to take a bath and then slept on the floor outside.

Jiang Ci rarely slept on the ground, especially since this was in the countryside.

Zhou Yang and Zhou Miao, on the other hand, have parents who don't worry about them. After playing until they're tired, they can lie down and fall fast asleep.

Wearing shorts and a tank top, she lay down and felt the warmth of the summer breeze. Suddenly, she asked Zhou Mingli, "Won't some bugs crawl up here?"
