Chapter 62 Coming for Me

Chapter 62 Coming for Me

The air froze for a few seconds.

Captain Wang, with a resolute face, felt the unquestionable determination and extremely suppressed rage from the young officer in front of him.

That gaze was locked onto him like an eagle, with the sharpness peculiar to a soldier and the madness of protecting a loved one. Captain Wang could even catch a glimpse of the determination to destroy everything from that bottomless cold pool.

He is experienced and knows that the safety of military families is of paramount importance. He also understands the unique value that Xie Shiyu can provide in his dual identities as a family member and a soldier.

Captain Wang's eyes darkened, his brows furrowed like a knife. After quickly weighing the pros and cons, he spoke in a deep voice, "Comrade Xie, I understand your feelings and position. Okay! On behalf of the institute, I agree that you will participate in the initial information integration and analysis as a 'special investigation officer.'"

He paused, his tone emphasizing unquestionable authority. "But the command and arrest of the operation must be led by our police, and discipline must be observed! This is a red line!"

In addition, you are an active-duty soldier, and your actions must be approved by your leadership."

"No problem!" Xie Shiyu said decisively, his voice crisp and clear, without the slightest hesitation. He immediately borrowed the police station's phone to make an application to the division commander. On the other end of the line, the division commander was furious when he heard that Gu Qiuyue, the division's treasure, was threatened by a Class A wanted criminal in broad daylight. He approved Xie Shiyu's request without hesitation.

"Protecting military families means protecting our military morale! Go ahead and do it, the troops are your strongest backing!" The division commander's decisive voice came through the receiver.

Xie Shiyu escorted Gu Qiuyue home first. When he left, he looked at her deeply. There was comfort in his eyes, and even more so, a heavy promise of "Leave everything to me". Gu Qiuyue tried to squeeze out a trace of trust on her pale face and nodded slightly.

After returning to the police station, Xie Shiyu was invited into the case analysis room.

The atmosphere in the small analysis room was solemn. The jurisdiction map hanging on the wall, the scattered files, the smell of cigarettes and old papers in the air all silently told of the urgency of the battle.

Xie Shiyu's face was gloomy as he looked at the character sketch that the police had just drawn based on Gu Qiuyue, while he clearly and calmly repeated every detail of Gu Qiuyue's experience: the gray-blue work clothes, the dark blue baseball cap, the sinister eyes like a poisonous blade, and the scar on the tiger's mouth that was twisted like a centipede. Each feature was like a sharp needle, piercing Xie Shiyu's heart, and was forcibly transformed by him into a cold clue.

Xie Shiyu frowned and studied for a moment, his fingers unconsciously rubbing the scar pattern on the rough surface of the paper. He said, "Captain Wang, the key clue is here."

He pointed his finger at the face on the drawing paper, then looked up, his gaze piercing. "My wife just heard you mention 'Gu', and she immediately thought of her eldest brother, Gu Qiuhan, also an active-duty soldier. He mentioned this when he came here to visit family at the end of last year. He had a mortal feud with a desperado named Zhao, whose defining characteristic was a centipede-shaped scar on the right side of his palm."

Captain Wang's eyes instantly became as sharp as a knife: "Zhao? Zhao Laosi?!" He turned around abruptly and rummaged through the pile of cooperative investigation notice files behind him. The papers rustled and the atmosphere was tense to the extreme.

After a few seconds, he pulled out a file with frayed edges and slammed it on the table.

A blurry black-and-white photo from a wanted poster was magnified. The man in the photo had a fierce look in his eyes, his hat pulled low. But when he pointed his finger at the base of his right hand, where the man was holding a gun, a twisted, hideous scar suddenly appeared, almost identical to the one Gu Qiuyue had drawn! The file header clearly read: "Zhao XX (nickname: Zhao Laosi), Class A wanted criminal!"

"It's him, there's no doubt about it!" Captain Wang slammed his fist on the table, his face livid. "This wanted warrant was issued two years ago, but this guy hasn't been around here since then, so we didn't pay much attention to him. I didn't expect him to be so targeted this time. This is extremely evil."

Xie Shiyu's heart sank, but his anger burned even more fiercely beneath the ice.

"Captain Wang, the situation has escalated. I need to report back to the unit immediately and request a joint military-civilian operation!" Xie Shiyu spoke rapidly. "This individual is extremely dangerous. He's targeting the families of active-duty military personnel. The military has the responsibility and obligation to assist the local authorities and completely eliminate this cancer and its remnants! I'm applying to serve as the military coordinator!"

"Agreed! Let's do it without further delay!" Captain Wang nodded decisively.

Xie Shiyu burst out of the police station like a whirlwind, his military jeep roaring through the night, heading straight for the troops. He barged directly into his direct superior's office and delivered a concise, every word weighted with weight: "Report! My wife, Gu Qiuyue, a military dependent, has just returned from confinement. Today, she was deliberately stalked by the Class A wanted criminal 'Zhao Laosi.' While the purpose is unclear, the safety of military dependents is of paramount importance. I request that the troops and local police establish a joint action mechanism."

After hearing the report, the military leader's expression was as solemn as steel. Soldiers shed blood and sweat on the front lines, and the safety of their families must not be violated. Without any hesitation, he immediately made the decision: "Approved! Establish a temporary liaison group, with Xie Shiyu as the military coordinator. We will fully support and ensure the safety of the soldiers' families and bring the perpetrators to justice."

After getting the imperial sword, Xie Shiyu immediately went to Gu Qiuhan's residence through the highest level of confidentiality line.

The call was connected, with the faint sound of cheers from the training ground in the background.

"Hello? Who is this?" Gu Qiuhan's voice was a little hoarse and tired.

"Brother, it's me, Xie Shiyu." Xie Shiyu's voice was unusually low. "Yueyue was followed on her way home from the military hospital this afternoon. Fortunately, Yueyue was smart enough to run to the police station, otherwise the consequences would be disastrous."

There was a sudden silence on the other end of the phone, as if even the air had frozen.

A few seconds later, a suppressed growl, like that of a wounded beast, was heard, followed by the loud thud of a fist slamming down on the metal table. "Xie Shiyu," Gu Qiuhan said through gritted teeth, filled with rage. "If you can't protect my sister, just tell me. I'll bring the three of them to my place right away, and I'll guard them myself."

"Gu Qiuhan, how dare you criticize me? Yueyue said the man who followed her had a hideous scar on the base of his right hand. Our police have drawn a portrait of him, and it's very likely that he's Zhao Laosi, a Class A wanted criminal." Xie Shiyu's voice was no less subdued than Gu Qiuhan's, tit-for-tat, yet filled with the same anxiety and anger. "I've already requested a joint operation between our troops and the local police."

When Xie Shiyu said the three words "Zhao Laosi", Gu Qiuhan was already silent, "Just wait, I'll ask my leader to help you too. This bastard is coming for me."
