Mom was quick to notice Luo Yiyi's abnormality. She quickly stepped forward, hugged Luo Yiyi tightly in her arms, and comforted her softly:
"Yiyi, Mom knows you may feel uncomfortable right now, but you have to remember that what others say may not always be right."
The mother gently stroked Luo Yiyi's hair and continued, "You and your brother are both my dearest children. I love you both the same."
Having said that, my mother paused for a moment, as if thinking about what to say next.
After a moment, she spoke again: "But, if I really want Mom to say who I like the most, I will definitely choose Yi Yi without hesitation!"
The mother's voice was full of love, "Because Yiyi is my little princess, the apple of my eye, and my sweet little cotton-padded jacket!"
These words were like a warm spring breeze, gently blowing through Luo Yiyi's heart, making her feel extremely comfortable and at ease.
She couldn't help but hug her mother tightly, as if she wanted to keep this warmth forever.
In her mother's arms, Luo Yiyi felt her mother's endless love, and her eyes gradually became moist.
From that moment on, her mother's words were deeply engraved in her heart like a brand, becoming one of the most precious and unforgettable memories of her childhood.
However, as time went by and her younger brother grew up, Luo Yiyi began to slowly understand that what her mother had said at the time might have just been to soothe her sensitive and fragile heart.
Every time her younger brother took a fancy to the toy in her hand, she had no choice but to give it to him.
Even though it was her most beloved toy and she was reluctant to let it go, she knew that if she didn't do this, her brother would definitely cry and her parents would blame her for it.
What's worse is that when her brother hits her, if she fights back, she will be severely criticized by her parents.
They would say that she was ignorant and didn't know how to give in to her younger brother, and they would even think she was a bad child.
However, when her younger brother bullied her, if she endured it and did not resist, her parents would praise her for being sensible and buy her some small gifts as a reward.
But these gifts often wouldn't even be warm in her hands for three seconds before her brother would cry and ask for them, and her father would give the gifts directly to her brother without hesitation.
Mom always said that she would give it to her later.
However, she waited for a long time, but never waited for the so-called "later".
Finally, one day, when her inner dissatisfaction and grievances accumulated to a critical point.
She could no longer suppress her emotions and mustered up the courage to ask her mother the same question she had asked many years ago: "Mom, who do you like best, me or my brother?"
However, her mother's answer was like a basin of icy water, ruthlessly extinguishing the last bit of hope in her heart.
My mother's tone was extremely impatient, even mixed with a little anger, and she said stiffly: "Didn't I tell you a long time ago?
You, your brother, and your mother all like it, equally!"
After saying that, the mother didn't seem to intend to give up. She immediately started to scold Luo Yiyi: "Yiyi, you are so old, why are you still as ignorant as a child?
Every day you fight with your brother for toys and for mom and dad's affection. You really make mom and dad feel embarrassed!"
Her mother's words were like a sharp sword, piercing Luo Yiyi's heart and making her so painful that she could hardly breathe.
She widened her eyes and looked at her mother in disbelief. She never expected her mother to say that.
What made Luo Yiyi feel even more heartbroken was that her mother's next words made her feel like she was falling into an ice cellar.
Mom continued, “And, you know what?
When you were born, your mother suffered very serious injuries, so your brother came to our family so late.
Therefore, as an older sister, you have the responsibility to be good to your brother, to give in to him, and to take care of him. Do you understand?"
When Luo Yiyi heard what her mother said, she felt as if the whole world was collapsing in an instant.
Like a child who had made a mistake, she lowered her head, stood there silently, unable to say a word.
Her heart was filled with endless bitterness and grievances. These emotions surged in her chest, but she could not find an outlet to vent.
She knew how stupid it was to ask this question, but the desire in her heart made her unable to suppress it.
However, her mother was obviously not satisfied with her silence, and she slightly emphasized her tone and continued, "Yi Yi, you have to know that you and your brother are the closest people in the world!
Just like mom and dad, we are a family, supporting and taking care of each other.
When my father and I grow old and frail and leave you, you will be each other's only support.
So, Yiyi, can you promise mom that you will take good care of your brother? "
Mother's words were like a heavy hammer, hitting Luo Yiyi's heart hard again.
She raised her head and met her mother's expectant gaze, only to see a hint of anxiety and uneasiness in her mother's eyes.
Luo Yiyi's lips moved slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but in the end no sound came out.
Under my mother's gaze, time seemed to stand still.
After a long while, Luo Yiyi slowly nodded. This simple action seemed to have exhausted all her strength.
Her body trembled slightly, and her hands unconsciously clenched the corners of her clothes.
When my mother saw this, a big stone in her heart finally fell to the ground, and a relieved smile immediately appeared on her face.
