Chapter 1222 Leave the strenuous work to me
Now dinner was a joint affair for the three families.
Tao's wife was straightforward by nature, so she didn't hesitate: "Okay, I happen to have some shredded radishes that I dried last autumn, which can be used as filling."
Chuxue didn't refuse, after all, this was the time when vegetables were scarce: "Okay, then I won't stand on ceremony with you, sister-in-law."
Chu Xue saw that Fu Yancheng had brought back quite a lot of meat, so she thought of using most of it to make filling, and then stir-frying the rest into a dish for them to have with their drinks. They couldn't just eat dumplings all the time.
Unexpectedly, when Mo Ruhua came over, she brought back the fish they had brought over at noon: "There will be many people tonight, so we can cook it and have it together."
What could Chu Xue say? She could only smile and say, "Then I'll listen to you."
Sister Tao arrived quickly, bringing not only dried radish shreds and dried green beans, but also a large bunch of bright green bok choy: "Sister-in-law, these dried vegetables may not look very appealing, but they taste delicious once they're soaked. Oh, and these are the bok choy I planted earlier; they haven't grown very big yet, so I picked a bunch to see if we can use them."
Chu Xue was still a little embarrassed: "Sister-in-law, it's such a waste to pull up such a small seedling."
Tao's wife waved her hand with a smile: "It's alright, it's alright. I spread it too thickly. These are seedlings that were transplanted from the vegetable garden. Otherwise, if they were all crowded together, none of them would grow well."
Chu Xue felt relieved upon hearing this and, remembering the dried shrimp she had brought, said, "Then let's have dumplings with three different fillings today."
Mo Ruhua, who also loves to eat, asked, "Sister-in-law, what kinds of fillings do you have?"
But after asking, she felt a little embarrassed and quickly added, "Wouldn't that be too much trouble?"
Tao's wife chimed in, "Yes, it's good enough to have something to eat, there's no need to go through all that trouble."
Chu Xue looked at the small rapeseed plants on the ground: "It's no trouble, there's strength in numbers."
Fu Yancheng walked over from behind: "It's alright, just leave the hard work to me."
Chu Xue turned to him and smiled, "Go soak these dried vegetables first, and then soak some of the dried shrimp you brought with you. We'll make dumplings with dried shrimp and bok choy filling later."
Upon hearing the order, Fu Yancheng replied, "Yes, sir. Just leave it to me."
It's true that many hands make light work. By the time Shen Kaiyuan and Tao Luancheng returned, all three fillings had been wrapped. Fu Yancheng was stewing fish in the kitchen, and stir-fried dried green beans with meat were still warm by the stove. Millet porridge was cooking on a small stove, but with more broth than rice, so that everyone could drink it as soup after the meal.
When Deputy Battalion Commander Tao was called over by his wife, he was still confused: "Why did you go to Battalion Commander Fu's house?"
Seeing the man's expression, Sister Tao chuckled and said, "Look at your silly face. Of course, it's because my sister-in-law and I have a good relationship that you're benefiting from it."
Deputy Battalion Commander Tao then remembered that his wife had mentioned before that she had come to the unit with Battalion Commander Fu's fiancée in the same car: "Where is our son?"
Tao's wife pointed to the small square not far away: "He's playing with the kids in the yard. Go and tell him to go home and wash his hands and face before coming over, otherwise he'll be too filthy to be seen in public."
Deputy Battalion Commander Tao looked in his son's direction and said, "Kids are all the same."
Seeing his wife glare at him, he said, "Fine, I'll go and drag him back right now, wash him clean, and then take him over."
The deputy battalion commander and his wife don't have children yet, which saves them from this trouble; they just need to take care of themselves.
When they arrived, the dishes were already on the table and the dumplings were already in the pot.
Shen Kaiyuan was an optimist. As soon as he came in, he exclaimed loudly, "It smells so good! It made me wash up much faster than usual."
