Chapter 1374 Xia Qiu's Dilemma
Xiao's father and his group hitched a ride, and it just so happened that they were going the same way as Commander Zhang and his group in the city. The commander felt bad about letting them get off halfway, so he stepped on the gas and dropped them off at the street corner before turning back to run his business.
Chunxiao was holding her younger brother and playing with him in the shade of the yard when she saw Xiao's father and the others enter the yard: "Dad, eldest sister, brother-in-law, you're back?"
Xiao's mother was cooking in the kitchen when she heard the noise and came out: "Why are you back so soon? By the way, how is Yancheng's injury? Is it serious?"
Xiao's father and Qiu Shaofeng did not reply, but instead went straight into the middle room where guests were to be received, carrying the borrowed clothes.
Xia Qiu took a few steps toward her: "Your brother-in-law injured his back, but it's already scabbed over. His sister has been taking care of them over there these past few days, so don't worry."
He handed over the net bag in his hand: "These are vegetables that my sister-in-law Chuxue asked me to bring back."
After taking it, Xiao's mother said, "Oh, you're so thoughtful. I just happened not to have cooked any food for you."
Xia Qiu washed her hands in the basin and said, "Is there still some cornbread from last night? Let's steam some and have it with this dish. I'm going to check on Junjun."
Xiao's mother pointed into the house: "He just fell asleep not long ago. I was afraid your brother would cause trouble in the house, so I asked Chunxiao to take him to the yard."
Xia Qiu felt very conflicted upon hearing this.
The couple had previously discussed finding a place to move out next month and sending their son to the factory's daycare. But even if the daycare was good, it probably wouldn't be as attentive as their own mother. They were at a loss for what to do and sighed inwardly, "Mom, Yanwan said the ribs aren't quite done yet. Could you please cook them again? I'm going to check on Junjun."
Chunxiao carried her younger brother into the house. When she saw the clothes she had brought back, her eyes lit up: "That's great, let's see who dares to question me again."
Seeing her smugness, Xiao's father said irritably, "Your second brother-in-law borrowed these clothes for you. You need to make it clear to your classmate that these clothes must be returned untouched. Otherwise, your second brother-in-law won't be able to explain it to anyone, understand?"
Chunxiao readily agreed: "Don't worry, I already told them before."
In the military family compound, as several people were eating, Chu Xue suddenly asked, "I wonder if the village has bought that oil press yet?"
Fu Yancheng had been busy lately and had forgotten about it: "I'll call and ask later."
Hearing Fu Yancheng's words, "Okay, if it's all done, thank them. When the honey in your beehives is full, have the Party Secretary harvest some and send it over."
Fu Yancheng didn't refuse. Although their relationship didn't require such formality, he knew what his wife meant: "Okay, whatever you say."
They were almost finished eating when they heard the old lady across the street start making a fuss again: "A little girl, just give her some food and that's enough. What did I say wrong? Da Bao and Er Bao are the roots of our Cui family."
The couple exchanged a glance: "Here we go again."
Fu Yancheng looked at his younger sister and said, "You go into the kitchen to clear the dishes. I'll go out and check on things."
It's almost time for afternoon naps, and if this family starts making a fuss again, how will the daughter-in-law get a proper rest?
He got up and went out the front door, and saw that people from each house were carrying bowls out, most of them with expressions of watching a good show.
Last night, the army sent another group of people into the disaster area, and Company Commander Cui was among them.
If left unattended, this old woman Cui would probably cause a ruckus all afternoon. He walked straight over and said, "Auntie, Company Commander Cui just wrote a self-criticism a few days ago because of the commotion you caused in the yard. If you want him to be punished, then keep causing trouble."
In short, this stopped Granny Cui from throwing a tantrum.
