Chapter 475 Blockade? Not Existing

Xie Wan left on foot with five embassy staff members.

The port of Kompong Som is in the southwest corner of Cambodia, and they turned south.

After walking for a while, Xie Wan left for a while, and then got a truck from somewhere and picked up the others.

The embassy staff were surprised to find a small pile of fresh corn on the car.

"Director Xie, where did you get these corns?"

Xie Wan's ambiguous words cleared up everyone's confusion: "South Asia is really a good place. Crops here can be harvested three times a year, and the soil is fertile, which is really suitable for growing food."

Xie Wan was driving, and the staff was cooking corn on the march road behind.

After the first pot of corn was ready, the staff insisted on taking over driving shifts with Xie Wan so that she could eat first.

In the hearts of these staff members, Xie Wan has completely become one of their own and is respected by each of them.

The road was bumpy, but fortunately their direction was different from the Vietnamese army's attack direction, and the Khmer Rouge did not pursue them.

It was not until they passed through the city of Kampong Speu that they encountered Khmer Rouge roadblocks and outposts.

"Director Xie, what should we do? There are a lot of soldiers at the sentry post ahead."

Xie Wan calculated the time and estimated that communications in Phnom Penh had been restored by now, and the sentries here might have been notified to intercept them.

Xie Wan didn't want to waste time, so he parked the car on the side of the road, asked the staff to rest first, and went alone to check on the other party's situation.

When we got there, we found that there were at least three companies of soldiers, all armed with live ammunition.

Either they were preparing for an attack by the Vietnamese, or they had received orders to intercept them.

In broad daylight, it was not realistic for her to launch a surprise attack and defeat them all.

Xie Wan planned the shooting point and returned to the rest area. He said to the staff, "When you hear the third cannon shot, you will rush forward. Don't worry about anything else. Just rush forward and wait for me ten kilometers ahead."

Xie Wan estimated that there would not be another checkpoint within a radius of ten kilometers, so he made such arrangements.

The staff now completely respected Xie Wan's words and trusted them immensely. They didn't even ask her if she had any other plans, and just nodded.

Xie Wan gave two of them a machine gun each, taught them how to use it, and said, "If you encounter anyone trying to stop your car, just open fire and shoot."

Xie Wan returned to the checkpoint, first climbed up the hillside beside the road, took out a sniper point there, and then took out the BL siege howitzer that she was familiar with from the space.

The first shot was fired at the sentry box next to the outpost. Before the enemy could react, the second shot was fired at the camp next to the outpost...

After five shells, both sides of the road were filled with thick smoke.

For fear of affecting the driving of trucks later, she deliberately avoided the road and left no potholes on it.

The trucks roared past, and no Khmer Rouge soldiers were able to get close to the roadside to intercept them.

The truck passed smoothly. Xie Wan put away her beloved BL siege howitzer, waved her sleeves, and left without a cloud.

While running on the road to catch up with the truck, Xie Wan couldn't help but sigh about his miserable life: "Why do I always have to travel by legs? I have to learn how to fly a plane when I get back.

If I could fly a plane, I would just take them flying, it would be better than having to paddle all the way here."

Her Ghost Step was so fast that outsiders couldn't even see if her legs moved or not. It was just a shadow that flashed by. But Xie Wan herself knew that this skill was very taxing on the legs.

Every time she practiced her skills, she envied Nezha because the two wheels he rode were much less tiring than her own legs.

After finally catching up with the truck, Xie Wan got on the car. Not long after driving, he encountered another checkpoint, so Xie Wan had to get off the car and do the same thing again.

Xie Wan cursed in his heart: "Is Pol Pot crazy? Why didn't he deploy troops along the Vietnamese army's attack route, but deployed so many along the way for us to evacuate our Chinese citizens?"

How could she know that Pol Pot deployed these troops not to intercept her at all.

They planned to retreat to Thailand in order to survive if Phnom Penh fell. They were afraid of encountering the Vietnamese army's western front head-on by land, so they chose the sea escape route of Kompong Som Port.

These troops were deployed to support the defeated army in advance.

Pol Pot was actually not stupid at all. No matter how fanatical he was, he would leave himself a way out. He just didn't expect that his way out would be blown to pieces by a female comrade who liked to use BL siege howitzers.

Xie Wan went through all the checkpoints and was as tired as a dog. He finally arrived at the Port of Kompong Som.

Along the way, they also picked up a number of overseas Chinese who were left behind and were preparing to head to Kompong Som.

Fortunately, the experts and engineers who were initially evacuated from Phnom Penh, as well as overseas Chinese who came from all over the country, were all safe and sound.

This was thanks to the fact that our country was the first to learn about the Viet Cong raid, earlier than the normal time for evacuation.

The garrison at Kompong Som set up a long cordon at the port, preventing overseas Chinese from approaching, but did not take any other drastic measures.

Passenger ships at the port have stopped operating. Countries around the world should have just received the news and have not yet started evacuating their citizens.

When refugees from other countries saw overseas Chinese evacuating to the port of Kompong Som, they also ran over to wait for their own country's ships.

Wang Hanlin and the others saw Xie Wan arriving with the remaining embassy staff and surrounded them happily.

"Director, can we send a signal to Zhenhua No. 1 now?"

According to the prior agreement, the passenger ship responsible for picking them up should be waiting in the nearby waters.

Xie Wan looked around and didn't see Xu Bing. She asked, "Haven't Captain Xu and the others arrived yet?"

Wang Hanlin said worriedly: "Captain Xu and his men lost contact after crossing the border into Cambodia.

I thought he had gone to Phnom Penh to meet you, Director."

Xie Wan was even more worried. She stayed in Phnom Penh for two days longer than previously agreed. Theoretically, since Xu Bing entered the country from the east, he should have rushed to Phnom Penh to meet her first.

With the abilities of Xu Bing and the other team members, they should have arrived in five days. Could it be that they encountered a large force of the Vietnamese army?

Xie Wan put aside his worries and went to find the embassy's political counselor. Because Ambassador Sun did not come, Comrade Xia had been in charge of negotiating with the port garrison.

Counselor Xia had heard from other staff members about what happened in Phnom Penh later, and that they were able to make the smooth journey thanks to the protection of other comrades from the Special Affairs Office, so Counselor Xia was very polite to Xie Wan.

"Director Xie, we are currently facing difficulties. The Khmer Rouge naval commander said that they have implemented a blockade of the waters around Kompong Som and will not allow any ships to enter or leave.

I don’t think our evacuation ship can get in.”

Xie Wan raised an eyebrow, "Counselor Xia, please tell them, blockade? If they don't let our passenger ship enter the port, then the South China Sea Fleet will come and tear down their blockade soon!"
