Chapter 31 Reading the Letter

Lin Shu stared at the envelope in his hand in a daze.

Then she opened the envelope with the earlier date first.

Lin Shuwei opened her eyes wide. It turned out that he started writing letters to her as soon as he arrived at the army.

He told her that he arrived at the army smoothly and there was no incident of human traffickers on the train like the one she had encountered.

Lin Shu snorted. If this kind of thing happened frequently, it would be terrible.

He told her that as soon as he arrived at the army, he began strict training and had no time to write to her until late at night.

Lin Shu curled his lips. She didn't rush him to write.

He told her that he won first place in their physical fitness competition today. However, this was just one of his first places, and he had won many first places before.

Lin Shu laughed. Was he showing off to her?

He told her that the chef in their canteen had made some delicious braised pork today, but unfortunately each person only got two pieces. However, he had fought with a comrade and snatched one piece, so he was quite satisfied. He thought about her promise to treat him to a delicious meal, and he was looking forward to it.

Lin Shu's lips curled slightly. She found it hard to believe he'd actually gotten into a fight over a piece of braised pork. What a coincidence! They'd also had braised pork for lunch today. It was indeed delicious. She'd make it the same next time she treated him to a meal.

At the end of the letter, I asked her to take good care of herself and not to act rashly anymore, and I looked forward to her reply.

Lin Shu pursed his lips. Who was being inappropriate?

Then she folded the letter carefully.

Staring at the folded letter, Lin Shu was slightly distracted, and an indescribable feeling arose in his heart.

She knew that Han Yan took time to write the letter every day, and it took several days to send it to her.

Lin Shu breathed a sigh of relief, put the letter aside, and opened another letter written by Han Yan.

This letter is relatively short, only one page.

It was about the last time she was pushed down and almost hit by the old man, and about looking for someone based on the portrait she drew.

Han Yan said that as soon as he got the portrait she gave him, he asked someone to track them based on the information on it.

Because the old man and the old woman were not locals and had no fixed place to live.

The people who were tracking them took a lot of effort and time to find their traces.

When the pursuers arrived at their temporary resting place.

Only the old woman was caught, and the old man took the opportunity to escape.

The old woman also explained that she had only known the old man for a short time and did not know his specific information.

However, based on the investigation of the old man in recent days, he may still be a fugitive in other important cases.

Let Lin Shu be careful of abnormal situations and people around him, and pay attention to safety.

Finally, he told her not to worry too much, as he had already asked people to pay special attention to that area of hers.

Lin Shu's hand unconsciously rubbed the edge of the letter paper.

She never expected that a seemingly ordinary old man was actually involved in other cases.

However, she then thought that since he could push her under the car, it would not be easy for him to kill her.

Suddenly, a strange thought flashed through Lin Shu's mind.

Lin Shu frowned and thought carefully.

For a long moment, she was clueless.

She shook her head, gave up trying to find out more, and put the letter in her hand together with the other letters.

She will find time to reply to each letter later.

The two days of rest passed in a flash, and Lin Shu and the others returned to farm work.

This morning.

Lin Shu put on some thicker clothes. The chill of early winter came suddenly. Fortunately, she was wrapped in time and most of her thick clothes were in the package.

After breakfast, Lin Shu and Xu Juan went to the open space in the brigade where corn was piled.

Today's task is relatively simple, which is to peel the corn husks and let others dry the corn in another open space.

Lin Shu and Xu Juan took small wooden stools and found a relatively less crowded place next to a pile of corn and sat down.

"Oh, I can finally sit down and work." Xu Juan sighed.

Lin Shu chuckled: "Even if I let you sit there for a whole day, you might not feel comfortable."

"I'd rather sit for a whole day." Xu Juan pouted and retorted.

Just as Lin Shu was about to speak, Aunt Liang placed a small stool next to her and sat down, saying with a smile, "Ms. Lin, good morning, Miss Xu."

"Good morning, Aunt Liang." Lin Shu and Xu Juan greeted with a smile.

"Why don't you come to play with Aunt Liang?" Aunt Liang said with a disappointed look on her face.

Lin Shu smiled embarrassedly: "Auntie Liang, I..."

"Oh, look at what I'm saying." Aunt Liang laughed, "What's so fun about playing with an old woman like me?"

"I'll call you over when Yan Zi comes back, then you young people will have something to say." Aunt Liang stared at Lin Shu and said with an expression that said I understand everything.

Lin Shu felt even more embarrassed now, his cheeks flushed. Aunt Liang must have understood something.

"You little brat! You've been away for so long and didn't even write home." Aunt Liang complained, "Do you think it's that difficult to get him to write a letter?"

"Well, let's not write it. It's infuriating." Aunt Liang continued, "Do you know what he wrote before? Just four words on a page: 'Safe and sound'."

Lin Shu, feeling guilty, didn't dare look at Aunt Liang. She lowered her head, concentrating on husking corn. She thought of the letter she had just received. Han Yan had written her two letters, each several pages long.

"Oh, I don't know if he can come back for the New Year this year." Aunt Liang stopped what she was doing and said dejectedly.

"Is he often unable to come back for the New Year?" Lin Shu asked.

"Yes," Aunt Liang said, "People in their line of work don't have any fixed vacations."
