After chatting for a while, Lin Jianguo seemed to think Han Yan was pretty good, and his expression looked much warmer than when they first met.
After everyone had dinner, Lin Shu walked Han Yan to the door of the room.
"How did I perform?" Han Yan asked expectantly.
"Very good." Lin Shu's eyes curved slightly and he gave him a thumbs up.
Han Yan's eyes lit up instantly. He raised his hand and touched her face. After glancing at the corridor, he quickly put it down, as if he was afraid that Lin Jianguo and the others would see it.
"Go to bed early." He said gently.
Lin Shu smiled and nodded.
As Lin Shu just walked to the door of her room, she saw Lin Hui sitting on her bed, looking at her.
"Big sister."
Lin Hui snorted and turned her face away.
Lin Shu ignored her and went straight in to tidy up his clothes.
After a while.
"Don't you have anything to say to me?" Lin Hui finally couldn't help but speak.
Lin Shu paused, knowing that if he didn't pay attention to this impatient sister, she would get angry.
Lin Shu sat down next to her, pretended to think for a moment, and then said with a smile, "Sister, I don't think I have anything to tell you."
"You—" Lin Hui seemed to be choked for a moment, and then she looked very disappointed, "Why did you find a… a country bumpkin?"
"What's wrong with the country folk?"
“The countryside is poor and dirty.”
Lin Shu looked at her disapprovingly: "Although the countryside is a little backward, not all countrysides are what you think."
"Do you understand the meaning of a good match?" Lin Hui retorted. "Your lifestyles are different, your perspectives are different. Can you tolerate the long hours? Can you accept that communication might become difficult in the future..."
Lin Shu looked at her in surprise. He didn't expect her to say such a thing.
Lin Hui seemed a little uncomfortable being stared at by her. She touched her face and said awkwardly, "What are you looking at?"
Lin Shu chuckled: "Nothing."
Lin Hui snorted lightly and glanced at her: "Don't take my words to heart. Although I am a little selfish," she coughed a little uncomfortably, "but I am doing this for your own good."
Lin Shu felt warm inside. He knew what she said made sense.
"Sleep here with me tonight," said Lin Shu.
"What, what?" Lin Hui looked confused.
"Don't you want to hear what interesting things happened to me in the countryside?" Lin Shu coaxed.
"Okay, okay." Lin Hui blushed slightly and said awkwardly, "You can't take my quilt."
Lin Shu laughed. Who was stealing whose blanket?
She thought back to when they were little and slept in the same bed. She wondered if her older sister's erratic sleeping position had become more proper now.
At night, Lin Shu and Lin Hui lay side by side in bed.
She told Lin Hui about her life in the countryside for a year, especially about what happened with Han Yan and his family.
"Han Yan saved me..." Lin Shu said softly.
"You're repaying me with your life-saving grace?" Lin Hui's voice rose slightly. "Lin Shu, you're not that superficial, are you?"
"Uh..." Lin Shu was speechless. It seemed that she had started to feel differently about him since he saved her.
Lin Hui turned sideways towards her and stared at her with sharp eyes.
"Although there are reasons for this," Lin Shu thought for a moment and said, "but more importantly, the relationship just developed naturally through spending time together."
"Hmph." Lin Hui seemed unconvinced.
"We..." Lin Shu chuckled and slowly told some things.
In fact, she had considered all the reasons Lin Hui said.
Han Yan's family is well off, and all the family members are good people and easy to communicate with.
Han Yan was a good man before he started dating her, and he treated her even better after they got along.
She didn't know what would happen in the future, nor did she know how others chose their partners, but for now, Han Yan was the only person she wanted to be with.
The next morning, as soon as Lin Hui woke up, she looked at her proudly and said, "I don't oppose you anymore."
Lin Shu laughed: "Thank you, big sister."
"That Han Yan," Lin Hui said awkwardly, "looks pretty good too. I guess he'll just barely pass."
"Then I have to thank my elder sister for taking a liking to me."
"That is..."
The two of them washed up and went downstairs.
Lin Jianguo and Han Yan were already sitting in the hall drinking tea, while Lin You was sitting nearby playing.
"Are you all awake? Then get ready for breakfast." Li Hongying shouted from the kitchen.
Lin Shu hurried over to help.
After everyone finished breakfast, Han Yan continued to accompany Lin Jianguo, while Lin Shu and Lin Hui accompanied Li Hongying to buy groceries.
When I was almost at the vegetable market, I met Zhou Shijie's mother Zhang Hongmei. Standing next to her was the girl named Xiaofen whom I met on the train.
"Mrs. Zhang." Li Hongying spoke first.
"Sister-in-law Li." Zhang Hongmei said, looking at Lin Shu, "Oh, Lin Shu is back."
"Aunt Zhang." Lin Shu called out with a smile.
"Why are you back?" Zhang Hongmei asked curiously.
"Bring her boyfriend back to see her." Li Hongying said.
Lin Shu looked shy. Bringing someone home at this time meant they were settled, and he wasn't shy about telling others about it.
"What?" Zhang Hongmei was surprised. "Isn't he a country bumpkin? You—"
"Who is this girl?" Li Hongying interrupted her and looked at the girl next to her.
"She is," Zhang Hongmei said happily, taking the girl's hand. "She is the hardworking and capable girl I mentioned to you. Her name is Xiaofen."
