Chapter 24: The regimental commander showed off his food, and all the food in the entire camp didn't taste good anymore!

Qin Lie felt extremely uncomfortable after Jiang Wuwu's sudden kiss and those sweet words that were so soft they could kill.

His face started to burn uncontrollably again.

I still had a lot of questions in my mind.

But looking into her big, smiling eyes, all the words stuck in his throat, and he couldn't utter a single one.

"Glib-tongued."

In the end, all he could manage to squeeze out was this utterly ineffective rebuke.

Then he turned and went into the house as if fleeing in panic.

As Jiang Wu watched his stiff back, which was almost moving in unison, the corners of her mouth curved upwards.

This man is getting more and more adorable.

...

Early the next morning.

Before dawn, the sound of bugles once again shattered the tranquility of the island.

As usual, Qin Lie opened his eyes reflexively.

As soon as he moved, the woman sleeping soundly in his arms let out a dissatisfied groan.

Then, like an octopus, it wrapped itself up even more tightly.

Qin Lie looked down at her unguarded sleeping face, and his heart softened.

Instead of shoving her away roughly as he had done a few days before, he carefully pulled his arm out from under her neck.

Then he leaned down and gently kissed her forehead.

Only then did he quietly get out of bed.

He moved much more quietly when he was getting dressed, afraid of waking up the little darling who was still sleeping.

When he finished washing up and was about to leave, Jiang Wu rubbed her eyes and sat up in bed.

She was still wearing his oversized old vest, her long, black hair was a mess like a bird's nest, and her face still had the drowsiness and languor of someone who had just woken up.

"Honey, are you leaving?"

Her voice was hoarse yet soft.

"Um."

Qin Lie responded and walked to the bedside.

"I'll go make breakfast."

She started to get out of bed as she spoke.

"No."

Qin Lie pressed down on her shoulder.

"You can continue sleeping, I'll go to the cafeteria to eat."

After last night's "braised pork incident" that became known to almost the entire group, he now just wants to keep a low profile.

"That won't do."

Jiang Wu shook her head, stubbornly pushed his hand away, and got out of bed.

"You have a sensitive stomach. The food in the cafeteria is oily and hard, and it makes you feel uncomfortable."

"I'll make you a bowl of noodles, it'll be quick."

As she spoke, she slipped on her slippers and walked into the kitchen.

As Qin Lie watched her slender yet busy figure, a warm feeling began to well up in his heart again.

He found himself becoming more and more accustomed to and enjoying the feeling of being cared for and cherished.

Soon, a steaming bowl of egg noodles was served.

The noodles are chewy, hand-pulled noodles, topped with a golden-brown, soft-boiled egg, and sprinkled with bright green scallions.

It has a light and subtle flavor, yet its aroma is so enticing that it makes your mouth water.

Qin Lie sat at the table and slurped down the whole bowl of noodles in a few mouthfuls, even drinking every last drop of soup.

After finishing breakfast, he got up to go to the military base.

Jiang Wu called out to him.

"Honey, wait a minute."

She took a military green aluminum lunchbox from the kitchen and handed it to him.

"What's this?"

Qin Lie took it and felt the lunchbox was heavy.

"I packed your lunch."

Jiang Wu straightened his slightly wrinkled collar.

There's still some braised pork left over from yesterday.

"I made you some scrambled eggs with tomatoes again this morning."

"Don't eat in the mess hall at noon while you're at the army base. Eat what I make for you."

Her tone was as natural as that of an ordinary wife reminding her husband to go out.

Qin Lie looked at the lunchbox in his hand, then at her, and felt as if something was stuck in his throat.

The word "good" circled in his mouth several times before he finally uttered it.

He carried the lunchbox that held her sentiments as he walked out of the yard, his steps lighter than usual.

Upon arriving at the military base, Qin Lie was in an unusually good mood all morning.

During training, he always had a faint smile on his face, which made his soldiers look at each other in bewilderment.

"Battalion Commander, did the Regiment Commander... find some money today?" a soldier whispered to Zhang Dashan.

"You don't know anything!"

Zhang Dashan rolled his eyes at him and gave him a mysterious smile.

"This is what they mean by being in high spirits when good things happen!"

"Just you wait and see!"

At noon, the call to serve lunch rang out.

Qin Lie, Zhang Dashan, and several other familiar officers sat in a corner of the canteen as usual.

The canteen's meals were still the same as always: stewed cabbage and tofu, potato and vermicelli stir-fry, and dark sorghum rice as the staple food.

It doesn't look appetizing at all.

The officers all had long faces and were barely eating their meals.

Only Qin Lie calmly placed the military green lunchbox he had brought on the table.

With a "thud".

He opened the clasp on the lunchbox.

A rich aroma of meat mixed with the sweet and sour smell of tomatoes and eggs wafted out of the lunchbox instantly.

The officers around stopped what they were doing when they smelled the odor.

They all turned their heads to look at Qin Lie's lunchbox.

The lunchbox was divided into two compartments.

One compartment contains glistening, reddish-brown braised pork.

The other compartment contains brightly colored, yellow and white scrambled eggs with tomatoes.

Below is a picture of perfectly separated, white rice.

The presentation and aroma... instantly made their dark sorghum rice and bland cabbage and tofu pale in comparison.

"Gulp."

Zhang Dashan's throat bobbed heavily.

His eyes widened as he stared at the meat in Qin Lie's lunchbox.

"Commander... Commander..."

He moved closer, his face plastered with a fawning smile.

"This...this is a lovingly prepared lunch by your sister-in-law?"

"Um."

Qin Lie snorted through his nose.

He picked up his chopsticks, took the largest piece of braised pork, put it in his mouth, and then squinted his eyes with a look of enjoyment.

That look of his was so incredibly obnoxious.

"Commander, um... can I have a taste?"

Zhang Dashan was practically drooling.

"Just one bite, just to taste it!"

"roll."

Qin Lie didn't even lift his eyelids, coldly uttering a single word.

"This was made by my wife just for me."

As he spoke, he picked up a large spoonful of scrambled eggs with tomatoes and placed it on top of the rice.

The way it guarded its food was like a vicious dragon protecting its treasure.

The other officers found it both funny and enviable.

"Alright, Lao Zhang, stop thinking about it. Didn't you see what the commander's treasure looks like?"

"That's right, we're just not lucky enough to have such a wonderful wife. It's our fault for not marrying someone as good as my sister-in-law."

"Sigh, comparing yourself to others is just infuriating! I'm going to tell my wife to learn from my sister-in-law when I get home!"

While everyone was making envious and jealous jokes, they ate their own food with a bland taste.

They felt that the food in the cafeteria today tasted worse than usual.

As Qin Lie listened to the compliments and envious remarks around him, his little bit of vanity was greatly satisfied.

He ate with even greater relish.

Just then, a discordant voice rang out.

"Hey, Commander Qin, you're living the good life."

It was Zhao Gao, the second battalion commander.

He and Qin Lie have never gotten along.

The two have been competing since they were both lowly soldiers.

Zhao Gao walked over carrying his rice bowl.

He glanced at Qin Lie's ridiculously lavish lunchbox, then at Qin Lie's smug expression, a hint of disdain and jealousy flashing in his eyes.

"What, you've forgotten your own name just because you're living off your wife?"

His words were sharp and sarcastic.

"A grown man, instead of thinking about how to make a name for himself in the army, just spends all his time around his wife and children."

"Qin Lie, Qin Lie, I used to think you were someone important, but now it seems you're nothing special."

"Even heroes can't resist the charms of a beautiful woman. I think your time as battalion commander is almost over."

Zhao Gao's words were like a thorn, piercing Qin Lie's heart.

The lively atmosphere in the cafeteria instantly turned cold.

All eyes were on Qin Lie.

The smugness on Qin Lie's face vanished instantly, replaced by a terrifyingly gloomy expression.

P.S.: Who doesn't like beautiful women?

Tomato Robot is the pinnacle of performance! It sweeps aside all its competitors and is so awesome that it has no rivals!
