Chapter 45 Your dance, I can only dance for you in this lifetime

Chapter 45 Your dance, I can only dance for you in this lifetime

"Come work in our division's cultural troupe?"

Commander Zhang's words, though not harsh, were like a boulder thrown into a calm lake, stirring up a tidal wave in Qin Lie's heart.

Go to the performing arts troupe?

What place is that?

That's where the most artistic talents and young geniuses are in the entire division and even the entire military region!

There are eloquent cultural officials, talented young people who can write poetry, and outstanding graduates from music academies!

They're all more cultured and sophisticated than this roughneck!

Sending Jiang Wu to that place, where she'd be with those people every day, would be terrible.

Isn't this like handing a white and tender lamb to a pack of wolves?

Qin Lie's face visibly darkened.

He unconsciously tightened his arm around Jiang Wu's shoulder, almost as if he wanted to embed her whole body into his body.

It was a powerful possessiveness stemming from instinct, a desire to possess without sharing it with anyone.

"Reporting, sir!"

Qin Lie's voice was dry and hard, as if it were squeezed out from between his teeth.

"My wife... she's just a frivolous person, not presentable at all. If she went to the performing arts troupe, she would only be a burden to the army!"

He refused almost without thinking.

This was the first time Qin Lie had belittled his wife in front of others.

But he couldn't care less.

Pride and face are nothing compared to the determination to keep his wife by his side.

Jiang Wu looked up in surprise and glanced at Qin Lie.

She could clearly feel the stiffness in the man's body and the force from his arm that almost caused her pain.

This man is afraid.

Who is Commander Zhang?

People become shrewd with age.

He only glanced at Qin Lie's anxious, food-protecting expression, and he understood seven or eight parts of the situation.

He laughed and didn't continue the topic, but instead patted Qin Lie on the shoulder.

"You little rascal, you're really protective of your wife!"

"Alright, I was just mentioning it casually today, so don't take it to heart."

"Comrade Xiao Jiang, you've worked hard today. Go home and rest with Qin Lie. We'll have to rely on you again for the party."

Commander Zhang spoke casually, as if the suggestion he had just made was really just a joke.

But Qin Lie's heart was not at ease at all.

He knew that leaders never spoke "casually."

Now that this topic has been brought up, it means that Jiang Wu, this "treasure," has already caught the eye of people at a higher level.

"Yes, sir. Goodbye."

Qin Lie saluted and almost dragged, half-carried, half-pulled Jiang Wu away from the rehearsal room.

He walked quickly and hurriedly, his tall figure revealing a sense of panic as he fled.

On the way home, Qin Lie remained silent.

The setting sun cast long shadows of the two of them.

Along the way, military spouses and officers returning from the canteen greeted them warmly.

"Commander Qin, Xiao Wu, I heard that you really made our regiment proud today in the rehearsal room!"

"Yes, yes, I heard it from my husband. He said you dance better than the actors in the city's cultural troupe!"

"Little Wu, you really are a hidden gem!"

Each word of praise was like a small hammer, striking Qin Lie's taut nerves.

His wife is radiant.

But this light filled him with an unprecedented sense of panic.

He just gave a perfunctory "uh-huh" twice, but his pace quickened, as if he wanted to get back to the little courtyard that belonged only to the two of them.

Back home, Qin Lie slammed the gate shut with a loud bang.

It was as if this would shut out all the covetous eyes from the outside.

Jiang Wu was both amused and exasperated by his appearance.

"Qin Lie, what's wrong with you? You've been acting strange since just now."

Qin Lie remained silent.

He turned around and cornered Jiang Wu step by step against the wall.

The shadows cast by the eaves made the expression on his face appear obscure.

His eyes were frighteningly dark, with a repressed and obsessive undercurrent churning within them.

"Jiang Wu".

He spoke, his voice terribly hoarse.

"Did you take Commander Zhang's words to heart?"

"What did you say?" Jiang Wu didn't react for a moment.

"Go to the cultural troupe!"

Qin Lie practically roared it out.

"Don't you think that place is better than our little home? There are people there who understand your dance, people you can talk to. Are you... tempted?"

His questioning was like a knife, utterly unreasonable, yet carrying a chilling fragility.

Jiang Wu finally understood why he had been acting strangely all the way.

"What nonsense are you talking about?"

Jiang Wu was both annoyed and amused. "Whether I go or not is my own decision. What are you doing here acting crazy?"

"Am I going crazy?"

Qin Lie gave a self-deprecating laugh, a laugh filled with bitterness.

He suddenly stretched out his hands and slammed them against the walls on either side of Jiang Wu's body, completely trapping her between himself and the walls.

A posture full of aggression and oppression.

"Yes! I've gone mad!"

He lowered his head, his hot breath spraying onto Jiang Wu's face, his dark eyes fixed on her.

"The thought of you going to that place, the thought of other men seeing you dance today, the thought of them looking at you the way I looked at you today, is driving me crazy!"

"Jiang Wu, I won't allow it!"

His voice was domineering and arrogant, full of unquestionable commands.

"I forbid you to dance in front of others again!"

"Your waist, your legs, the way you sweat when you dance..."

His gaze, seemingly burning hot, slid from her face down to her collarbone and then to her slender waist.

"These can only be seen by me!"

"Did you hear me!"

He wasn't negotiating; he was issuing an ultimatum.

Jiang Wu was stunned by his appearance.

The man's inherent domineering and possessive nature was even more terrifying than she had imagined.

She could feel his arm, which was bracing against the wall, trembling slightly.

He wasn't protesting; he was filled with fear.

Jiang Wu's anger suddenly dissipated.

Instead, there is a bittersweet feeling of heartache.

She raised her hand, but instead of pushing him away, she gently stroked his tense jaw.

"Qin Lie, are you an idiot?"

Her voice softened.

Qin Lie's body stiffened.

Jiang Wu tiptoed close to his ear and whispered in a low, seductive voice that only he could hear:

"The dance I did today was just for outsiders to see."

"I haven't shown you the really good ones yet."

These words were like a feather, gently yet precisely brushing against the most itchy spot in Qin Lie's heart.

His muscles tensed up even more instantly.

"What...does that mean?" His voice was hoarse and barely audible.

Jiang Wu didn't speak, but looked at him with her watery eyes, her gaze carrying a hint of allure.

Qin Lie felt as if a fire was burning in his throat.

He suddenly scooped Jiang Wu up in his arms, strode into the house, and kicked the door shut.

"Then you jump for me now!"

He put her on the ground and sat down on the edge of the bed, his eyes looking as if he wanted to devour her alive.

"Right here, dance just for me alone!"

Looking at his eager and domineering appearance, Jiang Wu couldn't help but curl a sly smile at the corners of her mouth.

She slowly took off her cloth shoes, revealing her bare, snow-white feet as she stepped onto the cold cement floor.

There is no music.

There was no audience.

There was only a dim lamp and a man with a burning gaze.

Jiang Wu began to move.

This time, her movements were completely different from those in the rehearsal room during the day.

If her daytime dance was a raging fire, then her current dance is a vine that twines around her.

Soft, lingering, with a seductive allure that penetrates to the very core.

Every glance she gave seemed to be an invitation.

Every twist of her waist seemed to tell a story.

The hem of her white shirt drew an ambiguous arc in the air, subtly outlining her slender waist.

The floral maxi dress clung to her long, slender legs as she moved, and sometimes bloomed like flower petals.

Qin Lie sat on the edge of the bed, feeling as if his breath was about to stop.

He watched helplessly as the most alluring flower, blooming only for him, drew closer and closer to him.

Finally, Jiang Wu spun around, not stopping a step away from him.

She sat directly in his lap, her arms softly wrapping around his neck.

Her body was covered in a thin layer of sweat from dancing, giving off a pleasant, faint fragrance.

Is it pretty?

Her breath was sweet and fragrant, and every glance and gesture exuded charm.

Qin Lie's Adam's apple bobbed, but he couldn't utter a single word.

He simply grabbed the back of her head and kissed her fiercely.

This kiss is no longer a punishment or a declaration of sovereignty.

Instead, it was filled with the ecstatic joy of regaining what was lost, and a deep-seated obsession.

Outside the window, the night was deepening.

But the temperature inside the room was rising steadily, almost setting the quiet night ablaze.

That night, it was as if Qin Lie wanted to crush all the pride, unease, fear, and love he had accumulated over the past few days and pour them all onto this woman.

He wanted her to know, and also wanted to remember.

This woman, inside and out, from soul to body, belongs completely and utterly to him, Qin Lie!

It is unknown how long it took before the storm gradually subsided.

Jiang Wu was so tired that she didn't want to move a single finger and curled up in Qin Lie's arms like a kitten.

Qin Lie held her contentedly, his chin resting on the top of her head, inhaling the comforting scent emanating from her.

But his heart, which had been temporarily calmed, was not completely at peace.

Commander Zhang's words during the day were like a thorn, still stuck in his heart.

Cultural troupe...

His heart tightened whenever he thought of those three words.

He knew that forbidding her from going in such a domineering way was only a temporary solution.

He couldn't keep her locked up in this little courtyard forever.

She is a phoenix destined to fly, and he cannot break her wings.

He could let her fly, but he was also afraid that she would fly too high and too far and he would never be able to catch her again.

This contradiction and torment gnawed at his heart.

"Wife," he said in the darkness.

"Hmm?" Jiang Wu responded groggily.

"The Mid-Autumn Festival Gala... are you really still going to go on stage?" Qin Lie hesitated for a long time before finally asking.

Jiang Wu lifted her head from his embrace.

In the darkness, she couldn't see Qin Lie's expression, but she could sense the struggle in his tone.

She sighed inwardly.

This man is such a jealous person.

“Go ahead, why wouldn’t you? Commander Zhang has already called for it. If I don’t go, wouldn’t I be disrespecting the leader?” Jiang Wu said deliberately.

Qin Lie tightened his grip on her arms.

Jiang Wu could sense that he was starting to get nervous again.

She couldn't help but laugh, and reached out to draw circles on his chest.

"However, I'm not dancing anymore."

"Huh?" Qin Lie was taken aback.

"I'll change the program," Jiang Wu said. "Will you feel relieved now?"

She knew that what Qin Lie truly cared about was her dance.

It was the unconscious allure of her dancing that could steal a man's soul.

Hearing this, Qin Lie finally felt a huge weight lifted off his shoulders.

"Change...what program?"

"It's a secret for now," Jiang Wu said, keeping it a secret. "However, I need a prop."

"What prop? Just tell me! I'll pluck the stars from the sky for you!" Qin Lie immediately patted his chest and promised.

Jiang Wu was amused by his silly appearance.

She leaned close to his ear and whispered two words.

"Guqin (a type of zither)".

Qin Lie's expression froze instantly.

Guqin?

What is that thing?

He only knew about rifles, machine guns, and mortars.

Where is he going to get her this guqin?

Especially on this island far from the mainland!
