Chapter 90 My wife says you're an accomplice, so you are!
Smoke filled the small hospital room, carrying a pungent smell.
Qin Lie stood by the window, chain-smoking. His physical wounds had healed, but the fire in his heart burned ever brighter. The Technician Wang's face, contorted with fear, and every word he uttered, felt like a scorched knife, repeatedly cutting into his nerves.
He returned, but more than twenty of his brothers on "Exploration One" were forever lost at the bottom of that cold sea.
This blood debt must be repaid with blood!
"Cough cough..."
On the bed, Jiang Wu coughed twice, choked by the smell of smoke.
Qin Lie snapped out of his daze. He turned around and saw Jiang Wu frowning. He quickly stubbed out his cigarette on the windowsill, walked over and opened the window to let the wind blow away the smoke in the room.
"Honey, I'm sorry, I made you choke." He walked to the bedside, his face full of guilt. "I...I'll go outside to smoke."
"It's nothing." Jiang Wu shook her head, took Qin Lie's hand, and made him sit on the edge of the bed. "Still thinking about Li Weiguo?"
Qin Lie didn't speak, he just nodded. The fierce aura emanating from him was so heavy that even Jiang Wu felt somewhat suffocated.
"The political commissar must find a way to get Wen Xue to see Technician Wang's confession." Qin Lie's voice was deep, each word seemingly squeezed out from between his teeth. "That snake should be moved."
Jiang Wu paused for a moment.
She raised her head, looked at Qin Lie's sharply defined face, and slowly said, "Do you think that Li Weiguo is the only mastermind?"
Qin Lie was taken aback: "Technician Wang only recruited Li Weiguo."
“When a man wants to destroy another man, it’s usually for power or profit.” Jiang Wu’s voice was soft but clear. “But when a woman wants to destroy a man, especially his family, it’s mostly for love or hatred.”
She looked at Qin Lie and continued, "I can understand why Li Weiguo wants your life. He hates you, he hates that you stole his position and ruined his future. But what about Wen Xue? Why did she get involved? What benefit could she gain? To become Li Weiguo's chief of staff's wife?"
Qin Lie frowned; he clearly hadn't thought that far ahead. In his view, Wen Xue was nothing more than Li Weiguo's vassal, a tool to be used.
“I’ve been thinking about something.” Jiang Wu lowered her eyes, as if recalling something, “Before you went to sea, didn’t the army hold a farewell party for you on the parade ground?”
"Yes, that's true." Qin Lie nodded.
“That day, everyone was laughing and wishing you well. There was only one person I saw very clearly.” Jiang Wu raised her head and looked directly at Qin Lie. “Wen Xue. She was standing in the crowd, looking at me too.”
"Her expression was very strange."
"strangeness?"
“Yes, it’s very strange.” Jiang Wu organized her thoughts, trying to describe the feeling to Qin Lie. “It wasn’t jealousy, nor was it resentment. It was a kind of… a kind of expression of pity, of watching a good show. Like watching a pitiful wretch whose family is about to be destroyed.”
"It's as if she already knew your fate, knew in advance that I would become a widow."
Qin Lie's heart skipped a beat.
He had never considered the issue from this perspective before. As a grown man, he would never have paid attention to another woman's expression when looking at his wife. But Jiang Wu's words were like a key, unlocking a long-sealed door in his mind.
“And another thing,” Jiang Wu continued, “When I first came to the family compound, do you remember? Wen Xue often came to see me, saying she wanted to learn how to cook from me. But every time she came, she asked about you. What you like to eat, what you don’t like, what your habits are, and even… how good our relationship is.”
"At the time, I just thought she was curious and didn't take it to heart. Now that I think about it, it wasn't curiosity, she was probing."
Is it normal for a woman to care so much about another woman's man?
Every word Jiang Wu said was like a heavy hammer blow to Qin Lie's heart.
He recalled the anonymous letter Jiang Wu had received, which described his relationship with Wen Xue in an extremely sordid manner. At the time, he thought it was nonsense and malicious slander.
But now, connecting all the dots...
Li Weiguo was demoted due to the failure of the exercise and harbored resentment towards Qin Lie.
Wen Xue harbored inappropriate feelings for Qin Lie, and her love turned into hatred.
One was after power, the other after love.
Two equally dark and vicious people came together and hit it off immediately!
"That poisonous woman!" Qin Lie slammed his fist on the edge of the bed, the hard wooden board groaning in pain.
He finally understood!
Li Weiguo was the knife that killed, but Wen Xue was the more vicious one who handed the knife to him from behind!
She didn't just want to make Jiang Wu a widow; she wanted to cruelly take everything away from Jiang Wu when she was happiest and most looking forward to it, causing her to fall from the clouds into hell!
What a wicked thought!
Qin Lie felt a chill run from the soles of his feet straight to the top of his head. His original plan was simply to use Technician Wang's confession to alarm Wen Xue, throw her into disarray, and thus expose her relationship with Li Weiguo.
But now it seems that the plan was too simplistic.
To deal with this kind of venomous snake, you can't give her any chance to bite back. You must kill her with one blow, so she can never recover!
"Wife, you're right." Qin Lie took a deep breath, and the rage in his eyes was gradually replaced by a colder, more calculating light.
He looked at Jiang Wu and said solemnly, "I underestimated her."
He stood up and paced back and forth in the ward. A more insane, yet more meticulous plan was rapidly taking shape in his mind.
He stopped and looked again at the confession of Technician Wang that Political Commissar Wang had just brought over.
“This alone is not enough.” He picked up the few thin sheets of paper, his eyes becoming deep. “This only proves that Li Weiguo was the mastermind. Wen Xue can completely absolve herself of any responsibility and say that she was deceived by Li Weiguo. We have no direct evidence to prove that she participated in the plot.”
"What should we do then?" Jiang Wu asked.
Qin Lie did not answer directly.
He turned around, looked at the bright sunlight outside the window, and a cold smile curled at the corner of his mouth.
"Honey, do you think... if a venomous snake thinks its prey is dead and no longer a threat, will it crawl out of its hole and swagger out to celebrate its victory?"
Jiang Wu looked at him, a vague guess forming in her mind.
Qin Lie slowly turned his head, his gaze falling on his legs.
He spoke slowly and deliberately to Jiang Wu, saying each word clearly: "I want everyone to know that although I, Qin Lie, survived, my nerves have suffered irreversible damage from being in the sea for too long."
"My leg... is ruined."
