Chapter 21: Has your conscience been eaten by a dog?

As soon as these words were spoken, the faces of the people in the Wang family turned pale, and even the most arrogant Wang Laowu couldn't help but shiver.

What Zhang Chunxue said didn't sound like a joke!

If this woman goes crazy, she might do anything!

The Wang family was used to being domineering in the village, but they had never seen anyone so reckless.

For a moment, no one dared to speak. Under the old locust tree at the entrance of the village, the only sounds were Zhong Yuanyuan's soft sobbing and the heavy breathing of everyone else.

Wang Laowu's eldest brother swallowed his saliva, looked at his mother, then looked at Zhang Chunxue's desperate posture, and had already decided to back down.

It's not worth it to sacrifice the lives of the whole family for a hundred dollars and for a daughter-in-law who hasn't even married yet!

He cleared his throat and forced a smile that was uglier than crying.

"That...that, Aunt Zhang, it's a misunderstanding, it's all a misunderstanding."

"Since Liu Cui'e took the money, then... then let's go find her and explain it clearly."

"We were reckless in what happened today. Please don't take it to heart."

Several other members of the Wang family also echoed the sentiment, their faces no longer showing the arrogance they had just had.

Zhang Chunxue snorted coldly, still not putting down the wooden stick in his hand, staring at them sharply.

The Wang family didn't dare to stay any longer. Wang Laowu was helped by his brother, and the group fled in disgrace, almost in panic, muttering words like "crazy woman" and "bad luck" under their breath, but their voices were so soft that they were almost inaudible.

It was not until the Wang family disappeared around the corner of the village road that Zhang Chunxue slowly breathed a sigh of relief and threw away the wooden stick in his hand.

"Mom!" Zhong Xiaoxiao's tears were still on her face, and her voice was nasal. She took a few steps forward and hugged Zhang Chunxue's arm.

Zhang Chunxue reached out and took the still sobbing Zhong Yuanyuan from her arms, gently patting her granddaughter's back.

Zhong Xiaoxiao tilted her head back, her tear-stained little face now filled with gratitude for having survived the ordeal and deep admiration for her mother.

"Mom, you...you were so awesome just now!" There was a tremor in her voice, a mixture of fear and excitement.

Zhang Chunxue looked at her daughter. The murderous look on her face gradually dissipated, revealing a hint of fatigue, but her eyes remained firm.

"Xiaoxiao, remember, when dealing with unreasonable bullies like the Wang family, just being weak and giving in is useless," she said, taking Zhong Yuanyuan from her and stroking her slightly cold face. "If they're tough, you have to be tougher and more reckless than them! Only when you completely scare them and make them submit will they dare not mess with you again!"

"Otherwise, if you take one step back today, they will force you to take ten steps back tomorrow, until they drive you to death!"

Zhong Xiaoxiao nodded heavily.

When they returned home, they couldn't help but stamp their feet.

As soon as Zhang Chunxue entered the kitchen, before she could even catch her breath, she dumped some tofu onto the chopping board and complained, "This weather is awful...Xiaoxiao, close the door."

Zhong Xiaoxiao responded quickly and quickly closed the door to block the cold wind from entering the room.

Zhang Chunxue opened the lid of the pot and wanted to put the tofu in to add some flavor, but when she did, she was completely stunned.

Where's the fish? The whole crucian carp was stewed until tender and flavorful, with not a single bone visible! The milky white fish broth was now reduced to a mere broth base.

Zhang Chunxue's face changed immediately, the anger rushed from the pit of his stomach to his forehead, and he slammed the lid of the pot back on.

"Mom! Why is there nothing left?" Zhong Xiaoxiao's eyes widened, unable to believe her own eyes. "Who, who ate the fish?"

"Who else could it be!" Zhang Chunxue gritted her teeth.

She put Zhong Yuanyuan in her arms into her daughter's arms, and without caring whether the child cried or not, she picked up a piece of firewood as thick as her arm from the stove and strode towards Zhong Chengfa's room.

The door of Zhong Chengfa's room was ajar, and one could still hear voices and the clatter of dishes inside.

Zhong Chengfa was sitting on the edge of the kang, one foot in a slipper, picking his teeth while sighing, "What's wrong with Mom today? She suddenly stewed fish, and it smells so good!"

Li Hongjuan hugged her child and kept putting fish meat into her bowl with small movements.

Her expression flickered, but she spoke without a single leak: "This fish, my mother said, is for Mingli's health."

Zhong Cheng was stunned for a moment, then subconsciously retorted, "But didn't you just tell me that it was made especially for us two?"

"I mean, Mom cooked such a big pot, what's wrong with us having a few bites?" Li Hongjuan quickly lowered her head to eat, stuffed the last bit of fish into her mouth, and scooped a spoonful of soup to feed Zhong Hongqing: "Drink up, drink more, this is a rare good meal."

The child didn't understand anything. He slurped the hot fish soup in big gulps, his cheeks bulging, and he looked extremely satisfied.

Just then—

Bang!

The door was kicked open and Zhang Chunxue stood at the door with a gloomy face.

The room suddenly became quiet, with only the sound of the child swallowing food and Li Hongjuan's nervous sniffling.

Seeing the two empty bowls on the table and the fish bone residue piled up like a mountain on the plate, Zhang Chunxue was furious. He walked up and hit Zhong Chengfa on the back with a stick!

"You bastard! What did I tell you to do?! Huh?! Instead of going to work, you ate the fish I stewed for your sister-in-law? Is your rotten mouth worthy of eating it?"

Zhong Chengfa knew his mother had a bad temper. He jumped up from the kang with a start, shielding his head with his arms, and walked around the room:

"Mom! Stop hitting me, I was wrong, I was wrong! It was Hongjuan who said I could eat..."

Before he could finish his words, he was hit by the stick again, this time directly on his buttocks. He grimaced in pain, screamed "ouch", and ran around the house looking for an exit to escape.

Li Hongjuan thought she could dodge it, so she picked up her child and tried to run away, but Zhang Chunxue caught her and swept a stick across at her, hitting her thigh with a "bang".

She screamed and fell to the ground: "Oh my dear mother, she is going to kill someone——"

She covered her legs and cried loudly. Zhong Hongqing was frightened and started crying too, louder than anyone else.

"You've got some too, you little bastard!" Zhang Chunxue pointed at her grandson, who was slurping the last few drops of soup. "If you dare to steal any more, I'll chop you to death!"

The little boy immediately threw away the spoon, and tears rolled down his face. He cried and begged his grandmother for mercy. The scene was so lively that it was like a scene of chaos and howling of ghosts and wolves!

Hearing the noise inside, Zhong Xiaoxiao leaned on the window and secretly peeked in.

Seeing the tragic scene inside, she shrank her neck for two seconds, then quickly ran out to report to her second sister-in-law.

After all, in this Shura situation, she was really afraid that her mother would lose control and punish everyone in the courtyard!

The chaos in the house continued to escalate. Li Hongjuan limped to the corner, wiping her tears with her sleeve, and still tried to argue: "Mom, Hongqing is starving. I thought there was so much anyway... and Mingli is alone, so she might not be able to finish it..."

"Can't finish it?" Zhang Chunxue sneered. "That's for her health! She needs to nurse her child after she recovers, not for you to eat her belly and fill her waist! The three of you gang up on a sick person. Are you even human? Have you lost your conscience?"
